Women’s Soccer Coaching Staff Bryan Drotar Head Coach Bryan Drotar enters his seventh season at the University of the Ozarks. Drotar’s Lady Eagles posted a significant turnaround in 2013, improving their win total by six from 2012. It was a banner offensive year for Ozarks as it scored 35 goals, the most since 2007. The 2013 team also totaled 27 assists to fuel the improvement. Ozarks scored three or more goals four times in 2013, and in its seven wins, Ozarks outscored its opponents 33-4. Drotar’s team additionally set a new school record for goals in a match with 16. The team’s defensive play was just as stellar as it posted four shutouts. Away from the pitch, Drotar’s team earned the prestigious team academic award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, the fifth time the program has been given the distinction. In his first season at Ozarks, Drotar led the Lady Eagles to a program-best eight wins. The team also tied for the most conference wins in school history with six. That season saw two of his players make the NSCAA Scholar-Athlete All-Region Team. Drotar followed his first year with a record-setting defensive team, which tied a school record for most shutouts in a season (5). In 2010, Drotar’s team earned the American Southwest Conference’s Sportsmanship Award, another program first. In six seasons, Drotar has coached 10 All-Conference players and another 39 on the conference All-Academic Team. Drotar, a native of Longmont, Colo., was the head women’s soccer coach at NAIA Geneva College (Pa.) from 2002-2005 where he led the team to the playoffs in 2003. Prior to his arrival, the team went 3-15-0. Drotar’s team steadily improved in each of his three seasons, with the 2003 team posting a 4-5-1 conference mark. He served as the assistant women’s coach at NAIA Missouri Baptist College for one season, helping the team to a 12-5-1 record in 2001. Drotar was the boy’s and girl’s head coach at Longmont High School (Colo.) and led both teams to the playoffs during his tenure. Drotar earned his bachelor’s degree in biblical studies from Colorado Christian University in 1996. He received his master’s degree in sports science from the United States Sports Academy in 2005. He holds an “A” License from the United States Soccer Federation and has an advanced National Diploma

from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Drotar and his wife, Bria, are the parents of four children, Ally, Samuel, Kara and Arden.
Samantha Parker Assistant Coach Samantha Parker enters her first season as the assistant women’s soccer coach. Parker, a native of Dallas, Texas, has extensive soccer experience at various levels, including interning with the FC Dallas Youth team and the Women’s Premier Soccer League. Parker worked with academy teams and assisted in the day-to-day operations for the FC Dallas youth development program. She later managed FC Dallas in its inaugural season of the Women’s Premier Soccer League. Parker was the women’s club head coach at Ohio University and served as the head coach and coordinator for Play Soccer Appalachia during the 2013-2014 season. Parker has worked numerous clinics and conducted goalkeeper training for youth players throughout her career. She owns a NSCAA National Coaching Diploma, NSCAA Goalkeeping Level 2 Diploma and holds a US Soccer National E Coaching License. Parker played at John D. Horn High School in Mesquite, Texas, where she earned All-District honors twice and lettered four years on the varsity team. Parker received her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from University of North Texas in 2013. She holds a master’s degree in recreation and sport science from Ohio University.

Women’s Soccer 2014 Outlook EXPERIENCED TEAM EYES SUCCESSFUL SEASON Head Women’s Soccer Coach Bryan Drotar is optimistic heading into the 2014 season with ten starters back, 94 percent of his goal production returning and a pair of skilled goalkeepers to patrol the net. The upward momentum is being felt in preseason training, according to Drotar. “It has been a great preseason for us,” said Drotar. “The pace and intensity has been the highest since I’ve been here. The skill level is high, too. The girls are doing a great job and they are progressing very well.” Drotar’s expectations are high for his experienced squad after finishing 7-12-0 overall last season. “We expect to be better than last year,” he said. “We want better outcomes. Our process is better and I think all around we will be improved.” One clear strength is the team’s overall experience. “The last two years we’ve had a lot of younger players, but this year we have six seniors who have played and are experienced,” he said. “The exciting part about this year is that we have starters from last year who are battling for positions. There is no guarantee those returners will start again.” Ozarks returns 94 percent of its goal production and 96 percent of its point production. Senior forward Vicky Romero proved to among the most dynamic players in the conference in 2013. Romero was named All-Conference after ranking among the American Southwest Conference’s top10 in five different categories. She finished third in the ASC in goals (13), seventh in shots (43), fifth in points (27), seventh in points per game (1.42) and fourth in goals per game (.68). Junior Haley Gilliam will play up front as will sophomore Frances Adams. Gilliam has an impressive 11 career goals and is expected to provide more in 2014. Adams burst onto the scene as a freshman scoring five goals and recording three assists. Veteran Lauren Gilby is back to provide even more energy and scoring prowess up front. “Up front we have Haley, Frances and Vicky who were great players last year and have improved this year,” said Drotar. “I think with the veterans returning up front and in the midfield, we will have the ability to score more goals than we did last year.” The Lady Eagles started strong winning three matches in a row to begin the 2013 season and won five of their first seven matches before hitting a midseason slump. “We started re-capturing that momentum back in the January,” said Drotar. “The girls have really
bought into the program and who we are. They have been training hard. And, we have several quality freshmen coming in and are pushing some of the starters.” The defensive unit will be fueled by a pair of outstanding goalkeepers in seniors Codie Freeman and Mary Eoff. Providing defensive support for the goalkeepers will be defenders Hannah Carter, Kristen Callahan, Alex Lewis, Maggie Johnson, Brooke Tralmer and Morgan Markham. “We have two sensational goalkeepers back,” said Drotar. “They push each other in practice. And, Hannah brings a wealth of experience to our defense as does Brooke.” With a large group of returning players as well as six new freshmen in the mix, Drotar believes the program could make major strides this season. “Last year we narrowed the competitive disadvantage, but we were still coming up short in the win column,” he said. “We believe with where we are at in the process and what we have, we can flip some of those losses into wins.”

Women’s Soccer NCAA Disivion III
Discover University of the Ozarks student-athletes are encouraged to pursue their interests and passions beyond the classroom and field of play...to discover themselves. Develop University of the Ozarks provides an environment that encourages student-athletes to develop into well-rounded adults. Small class sizes, the ability to participate in more than one sport, and an emphasis on participating activities outside of the classroom are all hallmarks of the NCAA Division III experience.
University of the Ozarks is a member of the NCAA Division III and the American Southwest Conference. We are a small, private, nationally acclaimed and accredited university with a “whole-student” focus. We consider athletics a huge part of developing potential for our student-athletes. We’ll offer you the support you need to win, both academically and competitively. At U of O, you’ll play the sport you love while finding the direction you need.

Dedicate University of the Ozarks expects student-athletes to dedicate themselves to achieving their potential. Student-athletes must manage their busy schedules, keep up with class work and face the same challenges as the rest of the student-body.

Women’s Soccer American Southwest Conference The American Southwest Conference, one of the largest intercollegiate athletic conferences in NCAA Division III, is in its second decade of providing quality athletic experiences for its student-athletes, coaches and administrators. From the eight founding institutions to today’s present group of 12 college and universities, the ASC encompasses institutions sharing similar educational and athletic philosophies. The roster of American Southwest Conference members includes Concordia University Texas, East Texas Baptist University, Hardin-Simmons University, Howard Payne University, LeTourneau University, Louisiana College, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, McMurry University, University of the Ozarks, Sul Ross State University, University of Texas at Dallas and University of Texas at Tyler. ASC championships are conducted in 16 sports (8 men, 8 women). Men’s championships are offered in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis and track and field. Women’s championships are offered in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field and volleyball.
