Upcoming BBC weather report: Sunny with lots of shade
After a number of delays due to rock encountered when digging foundations, and continuing wet weather delays, the installation of the retractable sunshades has experienced a further delay to completion on the front green. The shades on the back green are now fully operational but we can expect the front green not be completed until early July. This delay is unfortunate as it is related to an early structural design problem. Members and visitors will have quite a new experience when playing on the greens covered by the shades. Apart from greatly increased comfort on hot days, and the real health benefits from playing in shade rather than direct sun, the bowling
experience will be new to all of us. Hopefully it will, when complete, entice new members to the Club and continue our plan to ensure our Club remains the best traditional Bowls Club on the Sunshine Coast. We will have invested over $750,000 on new greens and shades in the past 12 months, which is quite a massive commitment, but one which we are sure will bring dividends in the future. We need all Members to continue to promote our great Club whenever and wherever you can amongst the bowling community on the Coast and amongst the general public. It's your great Club and you should feel very proud of our achievements.

president’s report by Ken Wright Members would be interested to hear that the Management Committee have now finalized and printed the Club Strategic Business Plan, taking our planning into year 2015. Copies are available for all Members to read and to see where your progressive Management Committee sees us going for the future. This is live document that is to be updated each year to take in new ideas and to cover changing circumstances. It is the "bible" for the Committee and can be used whenever we need to source funding for new projects or for negotiations with other business organizations. If you wish to view a copy of your Plan please let me know. Within the document is a financial forecast for our operations through to year 2015. Members will see that we are forecasting increasing levels of operating profit for these years ahead, but we all must recognize that it will not happen without the continued growth of our club through membership and bowlers playing
bowls. Our income steams are very much directly related to green fees, with the turnover in other areas such as raffles, poker machines, and bar trading, very reliant on the bowler numbers. It is vitally important that we all continue to promote our Club wherever we can, and help build our numbers. Only in that way can we continue to upgrade our facilities, some of which are in need of an update, and provide the pleasant environment at the Club that all of our Members are entitled to expect. Please get involved and help us to keep growing. My sincere thanks to all of the Members and Ladies that turned up to help us roll out the shades on Friday the 27th last month. It was a great roll up and the job was done in quick time. Your help was greatly appreciated." Ken Wright
the games we play by games director Norm Mackay Congratulations to Jon Herriot and Gary Austin on their wins in the Major singles and Handicap singles respectively. Commiserations to John Taylor and Paul Green, both having played very well. Great competition for both comps , but I believe that both Major Players are looking for a possible rematch in the Pairs Comp. The Pennant Season starts in Early August and we still need a few more players to make this a

successful year, so please don't delay. This years Pairs Comp is now under way with some interesting matches coming up. Congratulations to Bill Shaw on his 90th Birthday, still has that great sense of humour, hasn't he Hans. A Monday Twilight comp should be up and running in early June, so keep your eyes on the notice board for further info. See Ya
words from Waz by Junior-Vice President Warren Watson On the social side of things, I attended a meeting with the Ladies Committee and it was agreed that a lady bowler would be of great assistance in organising our social calendar. As the year is progressing rapidly I had to agree. Madam president, Marian Richards, is to have a talk with her ladies and have a representative contact me. We will be looking at the member survey from late last year for suggestions for social gatherings. More on social later. Organisation of the Buderim 150 Sports dinner to be held at our club on August 18th is well on the way and tickets for the night will be on sale at the Old Post office and Buderim Bowls Club. Ticket numbers are to be set at 140 on sale at $30 each. 80 tickets to be sold at the old Post Office and
60 at Buderim Bowls Club. Barry Ashby to advise when tickets are available, so get in quick as they will not last. Membership: Garry Barton has put up his hand to help on a membership committee, along with a lady bowler, in an endeavour to boost both male and female membership. Any member who would like to join us please contact me. Member numbers both male and female are the main contributors to the viability of our club so how about an Open day - Bring a Friend, maybe to be held on a Sunday afternoon with a sausage sizzle at the end of play. I will be talking to bowls director Noel on how we can implement this. Till next time, good bowling.
carpet burns by greens director Richard Meacle Hi one and all, As you can see at the club the shade structures are on the way, one green is operational and one is going to take a bit longer to get finished, around early July. The operation of the shades will be up to 3 or 4 people who will be the ones to decide when and if they go out and when they are put back. There will be more on this matter next month.
week to get the grounds looking good for the Prestige Fours at the end of May. We are luckier than some with our greens, we may not have them fixed to perfection but we have not had to have them pulled up and relaid, we just have to be patient and wait for some fine weather. Until next month, Good Bowling

A magician worked on a cruise ship. The audience was different each week, so the magician did the same tricks over and over again.

There was one problem. The captain's parrot saw the shows each week and began to understand how the magician did every trick. Once he understood, he started shouting in the middle of the show "Look, it's not the same hat!" or, "Look, he's hiding the flowers under the table," or "Hey, why are all the cards the ace of spades?" The magician was furious, but couldn't do anything. It was, after all, the captain's parrot. Then the ship sank. The magician found himself on a piece of wood in the middle of the sea with, as fate would have it, the parrot. They stared at each other with hatred, but did not utter a word. This went on for a day and then another and then another. Finally on the fourth day, the parrot could not hold back and said, "OK, I give up. Where's the bloody ship?"

Sunshine for the start of April! Our Club Singles finished with a new name on our Winner's Board, with Leona Johnson defeating our long-time champ Chris McFarlane in the last exciting end. Our Easter Bonnet Day was fun with Etta Hall winning the Gloria Jean Coffee Vouchers for her great hat and three ladies going home with Easter Baskets filled with chocolate goodies donated by Alma Smith and Joan Grant. We all appreciate these ladies constant generosity. Century 21 Real Estate will now sponsor our First and Third Tuesday of the Month, as they are happy to spread the prize money around more. Thank you, Tony Dunn. Mary Murray brought us some delicious Hot Cross Buns for our tea last Tuesday and it was Easter all over again, thank you!

We have Jean Pinch in Hospital after she lost her balance kicking bowls back after our game ended early because of rain. We kept the rain off her with umbrellas and a blanket until the Ambulance came. Her daughter was advised and met her at Nambour Hospital and was diagnosed as having a cracked pelvis. She hopes to be transferred to Buderim Hospital soon. The Shades were finally unrolled and spread across the greens with the help of many volunteers and was finished in just over an hour, well done. We will be the envy of many Clubs and I hope we will attract more players!
report by Sandy King
The Championship Singles has been concluded with some very close games throughout the competition. In a very close final Leona Johnson defeated Chris McFarlane 25-22. Well done to both who played so well. The Championship Pairs are continuing, again with some very close games. The draw for the Championship Triples has been done and play will commence where possible Tuesday 1st May. 14 teams nominated for the Open Pairs on Wednesday 21st March. The next Open Pairs will be held on Wednesday 16th May at 9am and are sponsored by Ucango Travel with prize money of $200. The Easter Medley was held on Wednesday

Ruth Wise has resigned as Assistant Provedore and transferred to Mooloolaba and Jill McNeil kindly accepted the post and I am sure that she will be a great asset to the Club.
18th April. 14 teams nominating for this event. It was great to see the greens full. The winners were Max Kitto's team from Pacific Paradise, 2nd place to Lyn Goodwin's Bribie Island team, 3rd to Alan Shaw's Tewantin/Noosa team and 4th to the Board/Quigley team from Buderim. The surprise prize also went to Max Hagan's Buderim team. Thanks to everyone who helped make this day the great success it was. Mother's Day social bowls will be held on Tuesday 8th May and the Club Fiesta on 15th May. A list for this event is on the noticeboard. Century 21's ongoing sponsorship of our social bowls on the first and third Tuesdays of every month is very much appreciated.
