MARCH 2016

JPS Foundation Overview & Direction As the philanthropic arm of JPS, the Foundation has the privileged responsibility of leading corporate outreach and serves as the vehicle through which employees have the opportunity to give back to the nation. JPS Foundation continues to be funded by contributions from the parent company, its employees, other partners and stakeholders. While we focus on the goals of 2016, JPSF continues to be guided by the Vision, “Unleash national growth and prosperity by being the not-forprofit partner of choice in Jamaica’s Energy Revolution.” and the Mission, “Improve lives and empower Jamaicans through charitable development projects in Energy Education, Conservation and Innovation.” We are positioning the Foundation as a foremost thought leader, educator, facilitator and implementer in energy through focussing on two major goals – Serve as a leading catalyst for innovation in Energy and Technology & Educate and drive behaviour change in Energy Efficiency and Conservation. What will JPS Foundation focus on in outreach activities? The Foundation’s Areas of Focus were developed based on the vision, mission and goals to act as guidelines for projects JPSF will consider for engagement. These are in line with the general foci for the parent company. Each of the foci have sub categories as outlined below.

Areas of Focus

ENERGY EDUCATION • Youth Energy, Science and Technology Education • General (adult and corporate) Energy Education • Youth Leadership and Development

SCIENCE, ENERGY AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION • Energy Innovation • Science and Technology Innovation

CONSERVATION & ENERGY EFFICIENCY AWARENESS • Conservation Awareness • Eco-development • Energy Efficiency Awareness

Operation

#ZikaVFree Jamaica confirmed its first case of the Zika Virus in January 2016. In an effort to assist with the eradication of the Aedes Aegypti mosquitos by destroying breeding sites, the Ministry of Education along with the Ministry of Health declared Friday, February 5, 2016 National Clean-Up Day for schools across the island. JPS Foundation reached out to the devoted VOLTS team and managed to lead the clean-up project at more than sixteen (16) schools across the island. Over two hundred (200) vibrant and energized VOLTS assisted by way of professional fogging, cleaning of drains, gullies and other waterways, clearing of bushes, collection of garbage and identification & removal of containers that encourage breeding. Some schools benefited from donations of repellants and informative sensitization sessions. Thank you team! Enjoy some pictorial highlights. See more photographs on the intranet.

Old Harbour Bay School Tour

The new 1 9 0 M W power plant project is close to its start. This power plant will eventually replace some of our older generating units in Old Harbour Bay. The 190MW plant will be built close to the existing Power Station, and will run on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) which is much better for the environment, and will better facilitate the integration of renewables onto the grid. As part of the project, JPS has been engaging the surrounding communities that play a major role in the success of our business. Enjoy highlights from the recently held Plant Tours for Grade 6 students from the Old Harbour Bay Primary School.
