The sun had barely risen, yet the Jose Rizal University (JRU) campus buzzed with excitement as students, faculty, and distinguished guests gathered for the morning
presentation of the 105th Founding Anniversary – a spectacular kickoff to the University Week celebrations. With the theme "Husay Rizal," the stage was set for an aweinspiring showcase of talent, culture, and the indomitable Rizalian spirit.
Ms. Marinelle S. Lara, the Chair of the Social Studies Department, commanded the stage with ease, making moving introductory comments that set the tone for a truly historical event. She expressed her gratitude to the whole JRU staff, students, parents, and faculty members recognizing their invaluable contributions to the junior high kids' outstanding dance journey performance.
The cultural adventure began with Grade 7 students representing the continent of Asia. A compelling short film displayed the diversity of Asian dance cultures, including Vietnam's love-themed dance and Turkey's brave Zeybek performance. Each presentation was welcomed with a standing ovation, emphasizing the rich tapestry of traditions woven throughout the play. Moving on to Europe, the Grade 8 students captivated the audience with their elegant and energetic dances. The Spanish dance, Austrian waltzes, Russian dances, and energetic Italian and Greek performances all demonstrated the continent's artistic richness.
The String and Glee Club, joined by chosen faculty members, hit the stage for a musical performance.
The harmonized tunes and fascinating arrangements captivated the audience, demonstrating the breadth of musical skill in the Rizalian community.
Grade 9 students then transported the audience to Americas by performing dances that conveyed the essence of nature, love, and culture. From the flowing Hawaiian dance to the passionate Cuban representation, the Grade 9 Rizalians demonstrated the richness of the Americas.
As the morning progressed, Grade 10 students introduced the audience to Africa and Oceania. Each performance, which featured countries such as Fiji, South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, and Zimbabwe, provided a vivid image of the different cultures that exist in these places. The highlight of the morning was the performance of Sakura Bernarte and Xai Slavik Angelo Sabalo of Grade 10-D, whose fascinating dance number left the audience in wonder, demonstrating the tremendous talent among the Rizalian community.
The Junior High School morning program was a remarkable showcase of talent, diversity, and cultural richness. From Asia to Europe, the Americas to Africa, and Oceania, each performance exemplified the Rizalian community's strength and ingenuity. As the morning presentation approaches its grand finale, the audience were amazed by the spectacular talent of the JRU JHS Division of what they have witnessed.

The Possibility of Love
BY MAYA FABIAN
I breathed in the warm, fresh smell of coffee as I took my seat inside a quiet café in the city of Seoul. Winter had just arrived, and the once-red and autumn leaves have now withered and died down, replaced by thefirstclumpsofsnow.
Tugging my jacket closer to my body, I rummaged through my bag and took out my sketchbook and pencil. Flipping to an empty page, I began sketching on a new project: the peaceful ambiance of the weather outside. The lead felt rough against the pages as I scribbled the tall oak trees and little bits of snow trickling down from thesky.
Art has always brought me comfort. It was the thing that got me through the worst experiences in my life, such as the death of my grandmother a while back. She had always been an anchor within my life; the one I sought solace to in my time of need. She has motivated me to pursue art school against the will of my parents. Ifoundmyselfseekingrefugeinthesamecraftshepushedmetowards.
Each stroke of my pencil against the paper was a balm to my wounded self, a way to process my overwhelming grief. In those moments of creation, I was bought back up to earth—away from the hell that consumedmymind.
I quickly realized, however, my new formed reluctance to embrace anything new. I had chained myself to the same routine, unwilling to go out with friends or even try new coffee shops. I had sat in this same one every week for the past year. The thought of venturing out of my comfort zone only filled me with a sense of dread, asifsteppingoutwouldonlyservetoreopenthewoundsmygrandmother’sdeathinflicteduponme.
Just as I had lifted my pencil from my page, an unfamiliar person walked up to me. It was a guy that looked roughly around my age, with golden dark skin and jet black hair. His soft, brown eyes shone against the light comingfromthewindow.Hehadasmallsmileplasteredonhisfaceandacoffeecupinhishand.
“Hellothere,”Hesaid,“Icouldn’thelpbutnoticethatyou’vebeendrawing.MindifItakealook?”
I looked at him puzzled before quickly composing myself. I was not used to strangers suddenly approachingme.
“Well, it’s just a light pencil sketch,” I say, offering him a weak smile whilst combing my shaggy hair out of myeyesanxiously.Iflippedmynotebooksothathecouldviewthepage.“I’mdrawingtheviewoutside.”
His eyes scanned the notebook I was holding before he finally spoke up. “That’s a wonderful drawing. Can Itakeaseat?”
I nodded sheepishly, feeling my face burning up slightly at his remark. He chuckled as he sat down in the seat in front of me, locking his eyes with mine. After taking a few sips from his coffee, he chirped up once again.

I was growing more and more antsy by the second, unknowing of his man’s intentions. At the same time, I also felt a slight pull towards him. There was a thrill in uncovering his motive. He adjusted himself in the cushionsofhisseatashemadeanotherremark.
“Well.. wouldn’t you know it? We’re about the same age,” He beamed, “My name is Joshua, but you can callmeJosh.what’syours?”

“Max..whatalovelyname,”Hereplied.
As the conversation flowed between us, I found myself opening up more and more. Perhaps, in opening myself up to him, I could honor the memory of my grandmother in the mostbeautifulwaypossible:byembracinglife’suncertaintiesandfindingjoyinunexpectedexperiences.
Before parting ways, he scribbled his phone number on the sketch I made of him. “In case you need someonetoshareyourartwith,”Hegrinned.
As I watched him leave the café, I couldn’t help but wonder if this chance encounter held the promise of something more. There were still doubts that lingered in my mind, but the rest seems clear. Perhaps I don’t have to live in a constant state of grief. Maybe, just maybe, I could finally open myself up to the possibility of

Pagmulat: Ang Paglalakbay ng Batang May Kapangyarihan
BY MAYA FABIAN
