once upon a time two of the greatest dancers of all time built a school on a lovely corner of the Bronx landscape. their names were Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn. they called it the Denishawn School of Dance. it was a magnet for young dancers who were eager to get out of their toe shoes and dance fresh on new ground; Martha Graham was one. the house still stands; its cracked and out of shape -- and beautiful. I look at it at least once a day.
