Educaching Lesson with Equivalent Fractions

Fraction Mania Lesson Objective: In this activity, students will practice identifying and generating equivalent fractions using multiplication and division. As students solve each problem, they will discover their next way point.
Ohio Standards:
Identify and generate equivalent forms of fractions. (Number, Number Sense, and Operations, Fifth Grade #3) Use various forms of “one” to demonstrate the equivalence of fractions. (Number, Number Sense, and Operations, Fifth Grade #2) Communicate mathematical thinking to others and analyze the mathematical thinking and strategies of others. (Math Processes Benchmarks, Grades 5-7, letter J)
Materials for the Hunt:
Fraction Mania Clue sheets (copied on a different color for each team) Fraction Mania Answer Sheets (1 per team or 1 per student) Clipboard or other hard surface for writing on in the field GPS receivers Containers for clues (6 per group) Teacher Map of the Educaching Area Fraction Mania worksheet (if desired)
