Novelist Mesha Maren MFA ’14
Visiting writer Mesha Maren ’14, a graduate of Queens’ MFA Program, returns to discuss her recently published book as part of the English and Creative Writing Department Reading Series. Maren’s book, Sugar Run, was described by Kirkus Reviews as an “impressive first novel [that] combines beautifully crafted language and a steamy Southern noir plot to fine effect.”

An Evening with Arts Faculty: Exhibition, Performances and Readings
The faculty from the departments of Art, Design and Music and English and Creative Writing present their annual arts faculty celebration featuring paintings, prints, ceramics, photographs, interiors and digital media. The evening will include short presentations of original works by creative writers and arts scholars. This is followed by performances by music and music therapy faculty in Burwell Hall. Appetizers and desserts included.

Preyer Lecture: Progress Under Pressure –The Long Black Struggle Against Jim Crow in the Queen City with Dr. Willie Griffin
Dr. Willie Griffin is a Charlotte native and the staff historian at the Levine Museum of the New South. His lecture will explore how African Americans organized to confront Jim Crow policies in policing, labor and education across the twentieth century in Charlotte, N.C.
