I write this message three days a er a ending Kennedy’s 40th Anniversary Dinner Dance, hosted by the Kennedy House Seniors Society and I am s ll in awe over the extraordinary efforts of the volunteers to make this event a very special occasion. Laura Saker, Socials Director; Lois Saker, Office Director; Trudean Olson, Secretary; Franca Babuin, Director of Volunteers; and their crew of volunteers are to be congratulated for pu ng on an impressive event. The elegant decora ons, delicious food, hand‐sewn uniforms for the servers are just a few examples of how their a en on to detail was over the top.

The phenomenal success of this event is a reflec on of the ever‐increasing dedica on and enthusiasm of our socials commi ee.

Cost: $5/person Prerequisites: None Registra on: Front Desk This 10‐week course will cover the basics of digital photography. You will explore how to use the exis ng light to your advantage, as well as exposure, depth of field, histograms and composi on. Learning about the basic rela onship between available light, shu er speed and ISO (“film” sensi vity) will give par cipants be er insight when choosing “in‐camera programs” on point‐and‐shoot cameras. For those with DSLR cameras, it is an opportunity to refine your control using manual, aperture‐preferred or shu er‐ preferred se ngs. There will be discussions, demonstra ons, hands‐on ac vi es, cri ques and possibly field trips to prac ce your new skills. Bring your camera to the first session.

Ride the carousel, visit the museum and check out the many ac vi es and displays. Cost: Members $10/Guests $12 Lunch is on your own. The carousel is $2.50. Admission is free.

Our garden club members meet in the café on the third Thursday of the month from February to November. Speakers for the July and August mee ngs have not been announced yet. It is the busy season for gardening so it is difficult to locate a suitable speaker. However, members bring their summer flowers and vegetables to display on the bench and it is always beau ful and a learning experience as the exhibits are judged and awarded points. Lots of helpful gardening ps are given and ques ons are welcome. New members and guests are very welcome.

A perfect day in White Rock includes fish and chips on a pa o, checking out all the souvenir shops, wandering up and down the beach, taking pictures, res ng on a log, strolling to the end of the 1500‐ pier and, of course, visi ng the white rock. Cost: Members $10/Guests $12 Lunch is on your own.
Membership is $15 a year and a Kennedy membership is required. A $2 contribu on is collected at each mee ng toward the cost of refreshments and door prizes. Jean Baine

Tuesday Golf
I would like to thank all the Tuesday golfers as 2014 is a banner year for membership. As of May 27, we had 37 golfers registered for Tuesdays—7 women and 30 men. Effec ve June 24, the golf membership fee will be dropped to $15 for the remainder of the season. If anyone is interested, please contact Dave Reynolds.

Kennedy Carpet Bowling had a fun tournament to celebrate Seniors Week on June 4. Dave Reynolds brought four new Kennedy teams to play with the real Kennedy Carpet Bowlers. Everyone enjoyed it and had a lot of fun.

Table Tennis We play our regular mes for table tennis on Mondays and Wednesdays. Thursdays we play 2pm to 3pm and occasionally on Saturdays. The Saturdays we play in July are July 12 and 26. August table tennis dates are August 9 and 30.

Laughter Yoga Laughter Yoga combines laughter exercises with simple yoga movements, gentle breathing and childlike playfulness. The laughter is started without jokes or humour, but soon becomes real when done with a group. It’s fun and good for your health and wellbeing. I will be restar ng a Laughter Yoga class in September and would love to have you join the group. Use your punch card and drop‐in and try it out. See you in the fall. I know you will enjoy it. PUNCH CARDS NOW AVAILABLE FOR: Ballroom Dance, Fitness, Tai Chi & Zumba Gold * ZENTANGLE If you like to doodle, sketch or want to develop your crea ve drawing skills, learn to create beau ful images by drawing structured pa ern designs. Zentangle drawing is a relaxing, therapeu c, and medita ve ac vity for all skill levels. This class will introduce you to basic Zentangle pa erns and use them to create a finished piece of art, adding colour to enhance the images. Bring a pencil, 2‐4 black fine‐liner pens (fine and medium point, excellent for this are Micron, Pigma, or Pi Ar st brands with permanent archival ink), eraser, ruler, set of pencil crayons (approx. 24), and several sheets of plain and 1/4 inch graph paper. See our display board for an example of this wonderfully relaxing ar orm. 8
