If you’re looking for the perfect place to spend Holy Week, be sure to check out our rundown of places to visit outside and within Metro Manila during this holy season. 1. Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur. These provinces are perfect destination for Visita Iglesia because of their century old churches which were constructed during the Spanish era. Travel from Manila takes about eight hours. 2. Siquijor. This islandprovince in the Visayas celebrates

the Healing Festival which coincides with Holy. The festivity is marked by a four-day event that is celebrated by multiple church services, holy treks, and healing sessions, thus providing a unique experience for the entire family. Siquijor is accessible by commercial plane from Manila to Dumaguete, then via a short ferry ride to Siquijor. 3. Batanes. Batanes lies in the northernmost part of the Philippines. The the best way to get there is by plane. Many travelers consider the trip the ultimate Holy Week retreat, with its serene and picturesque sights. Some points of interest include Chawa Cave, Mount Iraya, and the Itbayat, Sabtang, and Batan Islands. 4. Pampanga. Best Lenten season getaways in the Philippines but to witness the numerous reenactments of the crucifixion of Christ. Pampanga is only 82 km away from Metro Manila, and can be reached in about an hour and a half by land travel. 5. Marinduque. During Holy Week, Marinduque celebrates the Moriones Festival, which is an iconic portrayal of the Legend of Longinus, or the story of a blind Roman Centurion who was able to pierce the crucified body of Christ, and had his vision restored by Christ’s blood. The best way to get there is by ferry or plane. 6. Cebu. As a predominantly Roman Catholic people, Cebuanos commemorate the Holy Week with a wide array of activities.. If you visit Cebu, be sure to see the Simala Church, which is known for its prestigious castle-like look. Cebu is also home to the Monastery of the Holy Eucharist. Air travel from Manila to Cebu is serviced by multiple flights available daily. 7. Bulacan. People who don’t want to travel that far can do the Visita Iglesia in the nearby province of Bulacan. Some of the notable historic churches include

the Church of Santiago Apostol, St. Monica Church, and Barasoain Church. You can also attend Good Friday Processions in Baliuag. 8. Churches within Metro Manila. Some of the churches you can visit to complete your Visita Iglesia are the following: Santissimo Rosario Parish in University of Sto. Tomas, Basilica Minore de San Sebastian, Santa Cruz Church in Manila, Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene or Quiapo Church, Minor Basilica of San Lorenzo Ruiz also known as Binondo Church, and Abbey of Our Lady of Montserrat in San Beda College in Mendiola, Manila. 9. Intramuros. For the budget-minded Filipinos, the Intramuros aka Walled City is within the heart of the City of Manila. You can do the Visita Iglesia in seven churches inside the Walled City namely, the Manila Cathedral, San Agustin Church, San Ignacio Church site, Guadalupe Shrine in Fort Santiago, Knights of Columbus Fr. Willman Chapel, Lyceum of the Philippines University Chapel, and Mapua University Chapel.
