Elmlodge Polled Herefords Welcome to your Source for Success XIX

Established in 1820 the Elmhirst Family and ElmLodge Farms celebrates 200 years in Canada at the original homestead on Villiers Line.

Welcome to the 19th Source for Success Sale that will be remembered for the year of never ending obstacles. But enough about that. Let’s get to the critters and the consignors that make this annual sale one of the most exciting and anticipated events of the year. The genetic offering, as with other years is as diverse, current, unique and trendsetting as any you’ll find. Most of those exciting genetics are attached to the heifer calves that typically make that section so much fun. Plus, while this show season is pretty much a write off, you can bet some of the pieces on offer here will not only hunt for glory next year, but they will seek, conquer and destroy. And we will be here to help. The cattle industry is poised for a great future, with more consumer awareness about what they eat, tremendous cattle cull prices and a strong replacement market going into the fall run. We have learned a lot this year through reflection about how fortunate we are to be in this cattle industry. We have a purpose. While the world darn near quit turning we all forged on. We fed, we bred and continued to strive to make our product more efficient and profitable. At the end of the day as farmers it’s our job to feed the world and that keeps us driven. We also realized like so many others that family trumps all and we here, are especially lucky to work side by side every day. Heck with no shows we even found our way to the river a few times and have our best tans ever. One thing for certain, is that the biggest thing missing this year is the cattle friend fraternity - the people we have common bonds and values with that we’ve not seen in a long while. We hope on September 19 to see you all, and we will be taking all the necessary precautions to keep everybody happy and healthy. If you are not comfortable attending we will be online and can arrange private tours prior to the sale to accommodate anybody wishing to stop by. If we can assist you in anyway feel free to contact ourselves, consignors or sales staff so you can experience why we are your “Source for Success”.

High Society was well named as she stems from a long line of productive and competitive females that have blazed a trail not many cow families can compare to. That same cow family also happens to be the ‘original’ started here 50 years ago. Besides all the securities bred into this one for maternal excellence, when you study her lines and angles phenotypically she is extremely impressive. Lean and long necked with extra top shape, here is a favorite from the family that does it all. Owned with the Robinson family

Moderate, balanced, sound with substance and topped off with just a really nice look. Her rather successful siblings decorate these two pages while her dam is a cornerstone female that has a top prospect every year ..... Checkmate we shared with Stone Hedge was Sire of the Show at the 2018 Royal; Alleghany worked well at Wascana; Excaliber is knocking them out at Jinkinsons; Gods Country went to Cummings this spring and her only sister Frosty has proven herself in her first effort. EPDs BW 1.5 WW 50 YW 82 MM 24 TM 49 Hiawatha has been intriguing since he hit the ground running at 72 lbs and never looked back. His extra presence on a moderate heavy muscled, sound skeleton makes him easy to gravitate to. As you can see these two feature pages revolve around the same family and the producing ability is surely evident. His actual BW and EPDs designate him as a heifer pen candidate supreme with the extra shape and completeness to really add value to a calf crop. Looking forward to the 100th Royal in 2022, we think this guy could be lethal as a mature bull. Terms to be announced. Contact Billy for details Homo Polled test Pending.

Pretty interesting dude here that should tweak the interest of most breeders looking for something just a little different for the heifer pen.Hammertime is an attractive well balanced calf with lots of top shape and tremendous structural integrity. Maternal sister to lot 54 DSL Ms. Supreme 734 111H is a female that on a normal year would definitely be a part of our show string. 111H is a stout made, big bodied, big boned, powerfully constructed female - all while staying fresh and good looking through her front 1/3. 111H is sure to be one of the first ShowTime Fireball 734 progeny to sell in Canada. 111H maternal sister DSL Ms. Supreme 309F is the best uddered female that we have raised and is a perfect example of why we are so high on this heifer calf.

GRO - JDL GRO-JDL Temptation Y79D 113H is a female that has brood cow written all over her. 113H is extremely long sided, deep ribbed with a tremendous hip and hind leg. Her sire, Worr Owen Tankeray is a bull that we have used for the past two years and can not say enough good things about. Her dam is a past RAWF Reserve Champion Female and has proven herself to be one of our top producing females. A maternal sister to 113H sold is last year’s Source for Success to Cara Ando in NY.

GRO-JDL Temptation 734 110H is one that we feel will make a tremendous junior project. 110H is a moderate framed, huge ribbed, super fancy fronted female. Temptation 110H is sound at the ground, square hipped with that fresh look that we believe could make her big time show prospect as a bred heifer. Her sire, ShowTime Fireball 734 one of the bestlooking bulls in the breed is making his mark across the USA. Her dam is one of the most powerful females we have in our cow herd and has proven herself in the pasture after a successful show career including being named Reserve Champion Female Overall Breeds in the 2015 National Junior Beef Heifer Show.

This female came to us broke and show ready from the Stath-Brae herd. She was shown as a calf and we were disappointed that we couldn’t show her off this year. She is moderate framed, pigmented and femine. She was bred to BOLT and exposed to our herd bull, Elm-Lodge Gin Smash (a Tankeray son) who was Intermediate Bull Calf Champion at the 2019 RAWF. She is grandfathered top and bottom to BNMHPH Heat and MHPH Winston. Genetics like those are hard to ignore. This female is young and has a lot of livin’ to do. Preg checked safe in calf.

Great oportunity to get in on the genetics that started the Perfecto breeding success. Larry Crane selected the first daughter of 19x in this sale a few years ago. Zoey (now at Hoffmans) turned out to be a powerhouse in the ring, in the pasture and in the donor pen. The Bolder bull is new on the scene. This bull excels on paper and is a powerhouse phenotypically A proven cow like this combined with one of the newest sires in the breed could be the start of another great story!!
