Due to the events of September 19, 2017 (tremor of 7.9 degrees in Rickter scale) in Mexico, several states of the Mexican Republic were severely affected, among them “Alpanocan”, a community located in the state of Morelos and that adjoins the state of Puebla. Many people lost their patrimony and family. As an aid to these communities, the “Tecnológico de Monterrey” in conjunction with the municipal authorities of Alpanocan made a proposal for the early recovery of lost property. Among the spaces to be developed is a market of 36 stores which will supply the population with the immediate context. The land to be used has 3 platforms in different levels. The highest level is + 13.00m from the bench level

As part of an intervention exercise in a community, the needs of the population that originated the proposed building were located. Our main concept was the “machiyas”, a type of Japanese housing in which housing and commerce are integrated in one place. AMBULANTE 1083 seeks to generate the coexistence of cultures and customs within the same enclosure by having different activities of people’s taste inside.

Ground floor The ground floor is composed of 44 modules that will provide space for people dedicated to street trading. The intentions of this project are to reduce pedestrian traffic jam caused by the obstacle that the itinerant merchant causes by invading our universal accessibility. Within the same building there is an outdoor cinema area in the back that can also act as a theater stage.

ANGELOPOLIS Lomas de angelópolis is a middle-upper class housing development that is located in the “territorial reserve” zone of the state of Puebla. The development is in constant growth due to the great demand it has and the great popularity it has had. Due to the great growth it had, several factors were not included in the planning and have gone out of control, for example; the accesses to Lomas have stopped working since they are insufficient, and this causes heavy vehicular traffic for the rest of the population that lives in the surroundings. Within the set there are also vehicular conflicts because they can reach speeds, that’s why we present our proposal for the improvement of Lomas de angelopolis.

Master Plan Explanation of the site

JUAN SANCHEZ

Due to the high speeds at which it is driven and the accidents that occurred on the Inter-American Boulevard within Lomas de Angelopolis, this project was born; which seeks to reduce speed without generating more traffic and create traffic chaos. It is considering a kind of “islands in which public transport can be stopped. The reduction of lanes will cause the speeds to decrease without stopping the traffic.

LACUNA

Camp Lacuna is a project developed in an area of 8 hectares for a group of investors located in Cienega Larga, Chignahuapan, Puebla. The objective of this project is to create a set that unites the spaces and activities with the users that will go to the site.

23

LACUNA

It has 21 cabins and different types depending on the needs, as well as a large number of amenities, from ATVs to temazcales to live a great experience. Thanks to this complex we can generate a socio-cultural union and within this the traditions of the inhabitants of Chignahuapan are promoted, such as the elaboration of spheres that you will be able to know in depth inside the workshops for the visitors.

24

Project by Juan Sanchez August 2018

As part of an exercise in which we analyzed "Colonia del Valle" in Mexico City, we were able to realize that the population living in the surroundings make use of the bicycle due to the heavy traffic, however there is no bicycle program available.by part of

the government, so people use theirs. But the biggest problem is that there is no safe place where they can park their bicycles, so it was decided to perform an intervention on a sidewalk that has enough space.

MPX 210 The project presented below responds to the invitation to participate in the "4th edition of the Empresarial Quiero Casa Chair - TEC; Architectural design design competition to improve the urban context "promoted by the "Instituto Tencnologico y de estudios superiores de Monterrey" and the construction company "Quiero Casa". MPX 210 moves on a 1650 m² lot between Xola and Mier y pesado streets and in the Benito Juarez Delegation to the south of Mexico City and is integrated by an architectural multi-family housing project comprised of 55 apartments of 3 different sizes, where 40 are of 60.00 m², 10 of 80.00 m² and 5 departments of 86.00 m²; as well as two terraces for social events on the roof. The height of mezzanines is 3.50 m and the exact area of the flat type is 900.87 m² (without elevators or stairs).

The total area of the building is 6027.5 m² from the sidewalk level. The parking lot, located on the lower level of semi-basement, occupies an area of 1500 m². So the total development of the project is 7527.5 m² The departments have a minimum area of 60.00 m² due to the regulations applicable in the area. Likewise, in order to achieve a The exterior of the building in facades comfort superior to the standard offered in was resolved with two types of coating, the rest of the delegation, it was proposed the first is concrete and the other cut stenot to share walls between any department el, the concrete facade serves as a wall and to allocate that space for ventilation and from the interior of the apartment (smooth to the interior) and textured to the outsinatural lighting. de. The second facade was resolved as a latticework in order to not reduce the lighting inside the building. For all its characteristics aimed at a different and daring experience, according to the character of the citizen and working capital of the XXI century MPX 210 is a project that guarantees the well-being of all its occupants.

29

INTEGRATION OF THE CONTEXT TO THE BUILDING The idea of our concept is to take to the building a part of the city with which the citizen feels identified. That is why we decided to take one of the gardens to the interior of the building.

With this we achieve a better empathy on the part of the pedestrian and the inhabitants, at the same time that we recover green areas that have been lost.

TWO WAY

GEODESIC GRIDSHELL

38

INTRODUCTION The concept for the timber grid shell roof came from Architecture Workshop as a way of creating a stopover in the bush on the busy tourist trail between Auckland and Rotorua. In order to fit in with the topography of the bend in the Waitomo River, it was decided to form the geometry of the roof from a surface of revolution. The roof is cut from a section of toroid. This form was created by generating a cross-section on a rib-line as a perfect circle and then arraying this around the centre of the toroid to create the form. Whilst the ribs are generated from this circle, their form is much more complex.

39

BACKGROUND The grid-shell is the structure which derives its strength from its double curvature (in a similar way that a fabric structure derives strength from double curvature), but is con-structed of a grid or lattice. The grid can be made of any material, but is most often wood (similar to garden trellis) or steel. Grid shells were pioneered in the 1896 by Russian engineer Vladimir Shukhov in constructions of exhibition pavilions of the All-Russia industrial and art exhibition 1896 in Nizhny Novgorod.

40

Creating a toroid with an elliptical section and drawing geodesic lines on top the top half.

The double layered timber ribs arches in two direction, made from two layers of LVL ribs.

Two layers of LVL ribs interconnected with intermittent shear blocks.

By clamping the blocks between two layers, Vierendeel action allows localised loads to be shared out to the shell structure.

Aluminium extrusion are constructed on Steel prop to support ETFE pillows.

The cladding comprises ETFE pillows Inflated cushions of high-strength plastic.

STRUCTURE A net of cables were included in the t-plane, creating a four way cable nodes.

41

42

CASE STUDY The Visitor Centre has been designed to create a minimal intervention environmental building that provides a lightweight canopy. The top structure canopy follows the curve of the Waitomo stream while the base of the building reflects the contours of the land. A structurally innovative laminated veneer lumber (LVL) grid shell forms a lightweight canopy over the paths. The grid structure evokes a hinaki or eel net and is set out by the curve of the Waitomo stream that also flows through the caves. The orientation of each rib is set to always face the centre of revolution's circle. To do this the rib must curve and twist as it crosses the roof. The timber ribs act as large arches which are made from two layers of LVL ribs intercon-nected with intermittent blocks. In order to fabricate ribs that were bent only about one axis (and twisted), we allowed the ribs to "relax" into a slight S-shape in plan. This removed the secondary bending. The cladding comprises ETFE pillows: inflated cushions of high-strength plastic.
