Luxury retirement-living specialist Audley Group served more than 15,000 teas last year. About 1,500 were served at Blandy’s, the restaurant and bistro at Inglewood House in Kintbury, Berkshire. To offset these luxurious teas, Audley Inglewood has a health club with swimming pool and fitness studio, running classes such as Pilates, aqua aerobics and, soon, Tai-Chi. Many restaurants in retirement villages serve fresh local produce, but The Greenhouse at Rangeford Villages’s award-winning Wadswick Green community, in Corsham, Wiltshire, takes this approach one step further. Under the direction of chef Adrian Warren, the restaurant uses produce grown directly on the village. Menu highlights include slow-roasted tomatoes, black pudding, potato beignets and pan-fried smoked bacon finished with a caramelised onion puree; chicken supreme nestled on ratatouille finished with potato gnocchi and pesto; and apple and cardamom tarte tatin with vanilla-seed ice cream, all accompanied by an excellent selection of wines and beers. ‘We pride ourselves in offering a wide choice of dishes at The Greenhouse restaurant,’ says Rafael Marques, village manager at Wadswick Green (where properties are only available for sale). ‘With an increasing demand for healthy food options and locally grown produce, we asked our landscaping team to begin growing fruit and vegetables right here at the village. Not only does our chef incorporate the seasonal harvest in The Greenhouse menu, residents are also able to purchase it—including the village-grown flowering annuals for their balcony plant pots.’ The Greenhouse is open to Wadswick Green residents and to the general public.
