Architectural Intern, Aardvarchitecture, New York [May 2015 - January 2017] Responsibilities at Aardvarchitecture included the preparation of construction documents that were to be directly submitted to the DOB for a new 4 story-residential building. More specifically Zoning Analysis, Zoning Calculations, Energy Compliance Check, Site Analysis and RCPs. Development of structural details and wall sections were also hand sketched , reviewed and then drafted on AutoCAD. Due to the nature of this project landmark presentations and FDNY drawings were also to be developed for the proposal.

This project will serve as a basis towards the ultimate long-term goal of creating a building-integrated plant-based dynamic filtration system

Schematic Diagram of System

Two main objectives 1. Developing an understanding of how absorbants can be tuned using ionic liquids (ILs) for more selective adsorption (Objective 1)

INTRO : OBJECTIVES

IPBDFS focuses on air remediation through plant medium. Overall goal of the research was to analyze the neurotoxin capture in plant based systems. Started at CASE and Skidmore Owings, Merrill the project was brought to City College for further development by Ahu Aydogan.Project responsibilities included granulation of engineered media. Recording quantitative and qualitative data using Image J and other software that was to later be analyzed by the team. Data was to be presented to project team members and MSRDC fund committee. Entire setup for the laboratory environment was to be completed and disasembled at the end. Samples were also collected throughtout the entire duration of the project (1 year). Peer review meetings were attended to brainstorm problem solving , and present new findings.

Symptoms associated with short term exposure include excitement , dizziness, headache, nausea and vomiting followed by drowsiness and coma.

FORMALDEHYDE Found in paper bags, waxed papers, facial tissues, paper towels, table napkins, particle board, plywood panelling, and synthethic fabics.

Symptoms associated with short term exposure include irritation to nose mouth and throat, and in severe cases, swelling of the larynx and lungs.

BENZENE Symptoms associated with short term exposure include irritation, dizziness, increase in heart rate, headaches, confusion and in some cases can result in unconciousness.

Roots ROOTS

XYLENE Found in printing, rubber, leather, and paint industries, tabacco smoke and vehicle exhaust.

Symptoms associated with short term exposure include irritation to mouth and throat, dizziness, headache, confusion, hear problems, liver and kidney damage and coma.

AMMONIA Symptoms associated with short term exposure include eye irritation, coughing and sore throat.

DRIPPER Dripper

Project Overview Grow Stone GROW STONE To address the plant growth variability challenge observed in Task 2-1, in Task 2-2 six golden pathos plants per parameter were investigated to allow for more quantitative analyses to be performed. In total, 18 golden pathos plants were converted to hydroponics and planted in three types of growing media both with and without (control) IL functionalization. Two experimental platforms, were used for plant growth studies. Each set-up contained 9 plants. (6)60% GS + 40% AC as a control Activated Carbon ACTIVATED CARBON (6)60% GS + 40% AC-IL1 ([Bpi][NTf2]) (6)60% GS + 40% AC-IL2 ([ChO][NTf2]) This time the plants were arranged in 3 setups of 6 randomized plants each. Plants were watered manually for the first ten days in the mornings and at nights for a total of 200ml of water per day. Water was supplied to each pot by a dripping system after the first ten days. POT Pot This dripper watering continued for 30 days, making 40 days the total time for the plant growth study. The drippers were scheduled to water every 4 hrs for a total of 1 minute. So far , we see that IL2 plants have the most yellow leaves with black spots.
