Tanoura Dance Studio
Third year university project aimed to create a community space within the high street of Whitechapel, London. The design was impacted by the Cork House by Matthew Barentt Howland. The Cork Dance School is a place for people to learn folklore Orient dances main of which is Tanoura dance. Designed as one of the most carbon efficient dance schools, the whole building is made out of cork and engineered timber only. By making the building a big cork structure it focuses on bringing the awarness of sustainability during everyday activities. The passive design methods enable to reduce energy needs and prevent from overlayering the building construction.
The site is meant to be covered with cork material. It aims to bring unity between all of the components of the design. Also, it will not disturb the abstract idea of a dancer dancing around the building.
Outside form of the building should work as a seating area or balconies.
The sun path was also considered to provide as much sun as possible to every resident around and on the site without blocking the daylight.

House of Textiles
Second year university project close to the Toynbee Hall in Whitechapel, London. The House of Textiles is a textile campus in the heart of London. Placed within the high risers the complex design creates a separate world where the students can find intimacy and a place for imagination. There complex is divided between: Gap Building, Main Building and Housing blocks. The Gap Building is like an invitation, a taste of the design which sits on the Whitechapel High Street. Main Building includes teaching spaces and big workshop with the view at the Housing block opposite.
Design Process: model making
Etching
Etching is a technique of engraving in a steel plate. Best for showcasing the design intention or manifesto.
Clean plate is coverd with waxy ground so that the drawing can be made on it in reverse
Plate is sunk it the acid Bird featers help to remove bubbles
The dry plate can be covered with ink and printed on a damp watercolour paper

Basildon Duet
The final building project incoporates two primary uses Wellbeing Centre and Music Venue with the focus on bringing back life into the New Town and the High Street in Basildon, United Kingdom. The function of high street has been changing. In the past, the high street was a place for community where people could meet and spend the day out. Today, the function is mainly retail what leaves an empty space of previous social life. Shopping style has changed and people prefer to buy online rather than shop locally. What could be the solution to bring the people back? The suggestion is to start with combining two uses within a single building to encourage more users and newcomers.
Site analysis
Figure Ground Basildon Town is surrounded by green spaces and water sources. With the Gloucester Park on the northern side the place has a huge potential to become one of the most family or teenager friendly. The design site highlighted in red finds its place between a theatre, shopping centre and a church between an already existing small square.
Landuse The area is mostly surrounded by residental buildings. The main intensivity of retail and commercial spaces are placed in the Basildon Town Centre (with the retail extension behind the Gloucester Park). The retail units have started to close down which caused the centre to die out loosing the usual liveness. There are also couple of educational buildings and a set of health compartments.
Public transport Basildon has a very good public transport. There is a lot of bus stops around the area. There is one train station from which takes around half an hour to get to London. The town location is recommended not only to families, but also for people who want to work or study in London and try to avoid high rent. Eight parking spaces enabled people to have their own cars too. Besides vehicle transport, cycling paths and walking routes go around the town encouraging people to travel by bike or on foot if possible. The casual or job walk is beautified by the parks and other green areas.
Traffic The traffic is definiately lower than London’s traffic. As tested on the map, on the average day in the morning (Tuesday, 10 am) there is bearable vehicle traffic around the Town Centre with slight increase on the Northern side of the city, close to the main roundabouts.

Internship Design One Studio
During the internship in Sri Lanka the architects stressed a lot that the intern students should get acquainted with the building sites and methods used in the country. Also, the interns were invited to take part in most of the architects-contractors meetings. It was pointed by the architects that the field in Sri Lanka is still overloaded by men. The relation with contractors is difficult as well because it is often seen that they do not trust the architects and do not follow their advice. In Sri Lanka the main material used for building is concrete. One of the tasks was to design a beach villa in a sri lankan style basing on the villa design which was already developed in the office. The design was influenced by Alfred Place House by Geoffrey Bawa and Kallandakanda by Bruce Fell-Smith both located in Sri Lanka. Apart from that, the architects aim was to teach us SketchUp and Lumion softwares.
The design consists of four bedroom with the view at the ocean, open kitchen with dinning and living room and a separate living part for servants.

Global Free Unit: Research The New Rural The research workshop in Russia based on a field research of the three villages in Kaluga region. The aim was to work out what were the local needs and investigate the highlights of the place. New rural should feature sustainable design, modern agriculture, local labour and the connection with the Nikola-Lenivets open air Art Park. The participants proposed new ways of developing the area in various spacial and economical ways which eventually would be implemented in the site masterplan. workshop and final research website: <http://nikola-lenivetsclassroom.tilda.ws/new_rural>

Sol y Sombra Colombia is faced with a massive influx of Venezuelan migrants who escape their economically damaged country. The Venezuelan migrants (called also in Spanish caminantes) usually walk across Latin American countries searching for help. The research is a starting point for further projects which will aim to overcome migrants travel inconveniences such as lack of passport, food, financial safety and shelter.

At this point, the participants presented the general migrants’ situation in three scales: arrival city (Barranquilla), the journey and the frontiers scales. The research is shown in 2D drawings (sections for each of the scale) and 3D model on which the main walking routes, shelter points, illegal crossings, etc. are demonstrated. workshop and final research website: pending
