GIL SCHISLER TEMPLE TERRACE CITY COUNCIL
Responsible leadership
VOTE GIL SCHISLER FOR TEMPLE The dollars generated by the sale of the properties will only cover a portion of the almost $24 million debt created by the CRA. The additional property taxes generated by these projects are critical to the city’s ability to pay off the balance of the CRA debt. In addition, the city needs to be proactive in selling the ‘sewage treatment plant’ property between I-75 and the bypass canal. TAXES, SPENDING, AND THE BUDGET
The city of Temple Terrace is a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire. We need a concerted effort to make living here more affordable, so we can attract new families and businesses to our city. REDEVELOPMENT The Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is vital to the very existence of Temple Terrace. The city must dispose of the existing CRA-owned property with speed and due diligence. These projects must be a high density/mixed use type of development, and must be completed in the next 12-24 months.
The city of Temple Terrace has the highest “cost of living” in the region. Contributing factors include millage rates on property values, user fees, sales tax, etc.

The city needs to diversify revenue sources to ensure all users pay their fair share. Such revenue sources should include a fire fee and storm water fee, with an offset to the millage rates to keep everything revenue neutral.
minimally impacting expenses.
Spending must be controlled.
Expansion of the business base will bring new revenue dollars to the city and revitalize our local economy. Gil also supports leveraging the city’s relationship with the Tampa Alliance to further develop the economic base of the region.
The city currently has no means of reporting expenditures versus income on a year-to-date basis, and the budget does not get reviewed until the end of the year. This needs to change. The city needs to be more conservative in its budgeting process. Current programs and projects need to be reviewed and scrutinized from the bottom up. Spending must be controlled and taxes reduced, before they become the new normal. GROWTH Geographic - Gil supports the swift expansion of boundaries to include all areas outlined in the 2040 vision of the future. The expansion of the tax base will go a long way toward increasing revenue while
Economic - Gil supports programs that would expand the city’s business base by encouraging new, unique businesses to relocate here.
EDUCATION: The education of Temple Terrace’s children should be a basic concern and high priority for everyone. While the schools are run by the School District of Hillsborough County (SDHC), the city of Temple Terrace, as a voting force, must do a better job of exerting its influence on the SDHC leaders. Temple Terrace schools must be successful, not just for the property values, and not just to get people to want to move to here, but for our children - they are the future of Temple Terrace. Temple Terrace must work with the SDHC to help make our schools the very best that they can be. We all win with that approach.
