VOTE GIL SCHISLER FOR TEMPLE The dollars generated by the sale of the properties will only cover a portion of the almost $24 million debt created by the CRA. The additional property taxes generated by these projects are critical to the city’s ability to pay off the balance of the CRA debt. In addition, the city needs to be proactive in selling the ‘sewage treatment plant’ property between I-75 and the bypass canal. TAXES, SPENDING, AND THE BUDGET
The city of Temple Terrace is a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire. We need a concerted effort to make living here more affordable, so we can attract new families and businesses to our city. REDEVELOPMENT The Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is vital to the very existence of Temple Terrace. The city must dispose of the existing CRA-owned property with speed and due diligence. These projects must be a high density/mixed use type of development, and must be completed in the next 12-24 months.
Temple Terrace currently has some of the highest cost of living factors in the region. These factors include millage rates on property values, sales taxes, utilities fees, and a slew of user fees. A recent initiative to create Storm Water Fee and a Fire Fee for our city was finally defeated during
is needed now!
TERRACE CITY COUNCIL a recent council meeting. These were bad ideas for Temple Terrace. Gil spoke out against these fees publicly and requested that council reject the concept. Gil pledges to never vote for any Storm Water or Fire Fees in the future that would result in an increase cost of one penny for our citizens. Taxes and fees must be reduced in Temple Terrace to make it affordable to live, work and retire here. Spending must be controlled. The city currently has no means of reporting expenditures versus income on a year-to-date basis, and the budget does not get reviewed until the end of the year. This needs to change. The city needs to be more conservative in its budgeting process. Current programs and projects need to be reviewed and scrutinized from the bottom up. Spending must be controlled and taxes reduced, before they become the new normal.

of the future. The expansion of the tax base will go a long way toward increasing revenue while minimally impacting expenses. Economic - Gil supports programs that would expand the city’s business base by encouraging new, unique businesses to relocate here. Expansion of the business base will bring new revenue dollars to the city and revitalize our local economy. Gil also supports leveraging the city’s relationship with the Tampa Alliance to further develop the economic base of the region. EDUCATION: The education of Temple Terrace’s children should be a basic concern and high priority for everyone. While the schools are run by the School District of Hillsborough County (SDHC), the city of Temple Terrace, as a voting force, must do a better job of exerting its influence on the SDHC leaders.
GROWTH
Temple Terrace schools must be successful, not just for the property values, and not just to get people to want to move to here, but for our children - they are the future of Temple Terrace.
Geographic - Gil supports the swift expansion of boundaries to include all areas outlined in the 2040 vision
Temple Terrace must work with the SDHC to help make our schools the very best that they can be. We all win with that approach.
