“PAUL” - Graeme (Simon Pegg) and Clive (Nick Forst) are two pals with a taste for the unusual. Joyce A Kershner (JAK) 1941-2011 We are sad to report that our dear friend and Poetry Editor has lost her battle with cancer. As of Thursday, February 24, 2011 our community lost a very dear friend. Someone that will never be able to be replaced, that’s how very special this woman was to everyone that got to know her. Not the same to everyone, but “special” to every one that knew her. Baxter her babied and loved Yellow Lab will never forget her. JAK as she was known to many, worked various jobs within the gay community. After she served in the Army, she drove a cab, managed book stores, bartended, managed bars, did security, and managed apartment buildings. What Metra magazine remembers about JAK the most, she was our one and only Poetry Editor, plus our long time friend of 32 years. The unique person that she was, JAK wrote her own poem to be published when she was gone.
God Came to her Today and Said, “I think it’s now your Turn” She pleaded softly, “Father, I’ve still so much to learn” He touched her on her shoulder Whispering, “Your time has come” With tears cascading down her cheeks She said, “My work is not yet done” He took her hands in his and said “I have work for you above” She begged, “But God I can not leave behind the ones I love” He pulled her gently from her bed; “I know how much you care and that is why I’m taking you; You’ll watch over them from there” JAK
