"Stories I Can't Tell Mama: A World Premiere by Leslie Jordan" Leslie Jordan stepped off a Grayhound bus in 1982 from the hills of Tennessee, said "hello" to hollywood and has never looked back. With hundreds of television shows, films and commercials to his credit, he's a familiar face on the entertainment scene.
Leslie Jordan Due to popular demand, The Rubi Girls, a troupe of comedic drag performers from Dayton, Ohio have worked on some new routines, packed their bags and are returning to The Dunes Resort on Sunday, July 17th at 9pm admission is FREE! In the summer of 2010 The Rubi Girls, held a fundraiser for Community AIDS Resource and Education Services (CARES) at the Dunes Cabaret space and it was standingroom-only, and many in the crowd reported "laughing so hard, it hurt." There is no cover charge for the cabaret show, but tipping is highly encouraged...as 100% of tips will go to CARES. After a 2003 documentary premiered in San Francisco about the history of the troupe, the girls have taken their special brand of humor on the road whenever possible. The Rubi Girls documentary was met with great response at film festivals in Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, Atlanta, Fire Island, Cleveland, Reno and as far away as Adelaide, Australia...and it continues to be used on college campuses as a tool for celebrating diversity. The Rubi Girls love to comment on popular culture as well as familiar themes, it's always funny, accessible, and a bit racy, and that's what keeps the crowds coming back. Leslie is the 2006 Emmy Award Winner for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his delicious portrayal of "Beverley Leslie" on "Will and Grace." The television audiences will also remember him for his recurring roles on "Boston Legal," "Ugly Betty," and "Reba." And feature film audiences will recognize Leslie from his performance as "Brother Boy" in Del Shores' adapation of his play "SORDID LIVES" with Olivia Newton-John, Delta Burke and Beau Bridges. He continued the role in "Sordid Lives...the Series" for the cable network LOGO, which starred Rue McClanahan, Caroline Rhea and Bonnie Bedelia among others. He has a starring role in the upcoming Dreamworks feature film "The Help" based on the best-selling novel by Kathryn Stockett. Summer is here and the living is easy does it, and most of the TV meteorologists have forecasted a HOT, HUMID, LONG one! So, wear as little clothing as possible, put on ample supply of sunscreen, stay in the shade, and stay hydrated! Let’s see what’s happening around Metraland starting with Illinois this time! ...ILLINOIS Despite the damage caused by vandals to at least 50 floats in the Chicago Pride Parade, it still went off promptly at noon with most of the floats fixed and running. And it was one of the largest in its history, with hundreds of thousands of people that packed the entire parade route, organizers and police estimated the crowd to number 450,000 to ½ a million gay people and their supporters. Hoorah, for Chicago’s Gay Community! Chicago: BERLIN (773-348-4975), has a full month of schedule events for July. On Thursday, July 7th “ GHOSTS OF VENICE” (UK), with Skyler Mendoza. Tickets are just $15 in advance at all your favorite participating GAY establishments or $20 at the gate, come rain or shine! Top DJ’s will be providing the music from noon-8:00pm, there will be 4-shows in the showroom hosted by entertainment director Nickki Stevens and a line up of all star performers, see the ad in this issue, and the HOTTEST Male Dancers by Chico’s Boys! The Olympic Bush games, directed by Summers Eve, will begin at noon with a parade through the park, and the games beginning right after that, there will be a $250.00 cash prize with a 1St place Gay Gold Medals for the winning team and the runner-up team will receive a 2nd place Gay Gold Medals but no cash.
