Happy 4th
The fourth of July is a pretty special holiday in Juneau. Where else can you watch fireworks until midnight and then catch all your friends and neighbors in the parade the next morning? Then there’s Douglas and all the Sandy Beach activities. Barbecuing and other feasting is also a part of the Fourth. Just like Thanksgiving, though, I’m not going to offer any advice on healthy eating. You know my policy on holiday eating-go for it! It’s what we do all the other days of the year that is important. What does really matters though, even on holidays, is safety. Drinking and driving don’t mix and neither do drinking and boating or drinking and fireworks. Be smart and be safe and have a great Fourth of July weekend!

Adam Berg Passed in 2018 Adam Berg, who arrived in Alaska as a teenager and grew into a man who lived a full life devoted to family, friends and the people of Southwest Alaska, passed away peacefully at home with his wife and his family by his side. He was 51. Born and raised on a farm in Minnesota, Adam followed family to Juneau, where he enjoyed the outdoors and numerous recreational activities. His interest in slow-pitch softball led to the romance of his life with Jami Eistetter. They were married in 1998. Following their marriage, Adam and Jami resided in Whitehorse, Yukon where Adam worked a variety of jobs. For 2 years, he was Race Manager of the Yukon Quest dogsled race, enjoying the mushers, dogs, and communities along the race route. Adam’s professional career eventually led him back to Alaska. From 2004 – 2018, he was employed at the Legislature where he was staff to Rep. Carl Moses and Sen. Lyman Hoffman, and served as the Chief of Staff for Rep. Bryce Edgmon. His commitment to serving the people of House District 37 for over two decades was immeasurable. Adam enjoyed a variety of sports throughout his life, favoring football, basketball, baseball and slopitch. He loved to hunt and fish. One of his favorite past-times was to get up early in the morning and head out on a “moose cruise” to Kincaid, the hillside, or any other place moose had been spotted. Adam was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan, loyally cheering them on through thick or thin. Adam was predeceased by his parents Charles and Carol Berg of Chokio, MN and a sister, Dixie LIppert of Easton, MN. He is survived by his wife Jami Eistetter of Anchorage; sisters Bonnie Berg, Laurie Berg (John Connolly), and Marla Berg (John Greely), all of Juneau; brothers Charles (Dana) Berg of Lindstrom, MN, and Colin (Ronda) Berg of Olivia, MN as well as Jami’s siblings Dawn (Bill) Elliott, Darcee Robb, Tracy (Mike) Mamona, and Jim (Jodi) Eistetter, all from Canada. Adam is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and relatives from Alaska, Minnesota, Maryland and Canada. He was especially close to his nephew Sam Greely. Adam will be greatly missed by his loyal companion Kita, a rescue pet who won the life lottery and a spot on Adam’s lap. Kita was Adam’s guardian angel who kept close watch over him right to the end. Jami would like to sincerely thank Dr. Liu, Pam, Jeremy, Henry, Ed and all the nurses and staff of Alaska Oncology for their expert care and compassion shown to Adam. Rep. Bryce Edgmon and Amory, we can’t thank you enough for the kindness, compassion, tremendous support and friendship you both have shown for Adam and Jami. A Celebration of Adam’s Life will be held on Thursday, July 5th, 2018 at 4:30pm in the North Room of Kincaid Chalet, 9401 Raspberry Rd. Anchorage. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Adam’s memory may be made to Friends of Pets, PO Box 240981 Anchorage, AK 99524, or at www.friendsofpets.org
