Barbara “Barb” A. Howe February 28, 1931- June 14, 2018
Barbara A Howe “Barb” of Surprise Arizona, born February 28, 1931, in Tacoma, Washington to the late Harvey and Ruth Richardson, passed away June 14, 2018, at the age of 87. Barb graduated from Franklin High in Seattle Washington in 1950. After graduation she worked for a bank in downtown Seattle. In 1952 she met and married Robert H. Howe “Bob”. Their first home was in Renton Washington before moving to Juneau in 1956 with two small children. While in Juneau two more children were born, and all four were raised in Juneau. Barb worked for the Alaska Court System for over 20 years retiring in 1982 as Clerk of the Court. After retirement Barb and Bob spent many summers on their boat the Barbara Anne. In 1990 they moved to Wasilla and became snowbirds, spending the winters in AZ and the summers in AK. The trips back and forth from AZ to AK, in their motorhome, were always an experience and a topic of conversation and entertainment. Barb always remembered birthdays and anniversaries and many gifts she gave were often one of her artistic creations; a beautiful painting or needle work. Barb loved spending time with family and friends cooking, enjoying good food and celebrating. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob in 2004, and her son Robert Jr in 1989. She is survived by her sons Wayne (Jenny) of Wasilla and William (Diana) of Fairbanks and daughter Chris (Rich) of Navarre FL; Grandchildren, Wendy, Cameron, Jason, Patrick and Brook; Great Grandchildren, Jordan, Brody, Wyatt, Rily, Maverick and Merritt. She is also survived by her sister Lavon of Spokane, WA. A family gathering is planned for next spring in Juneau where Barb will join Bob at the Shrine of St. Therese columbarium.
Sidney Dean Heidersdorf September 8, 1936- July 30, 2018 Sidney Dean Heidersdorf, 81, a long time Juneau resident, passed away on July 30, 2018 in Seattle, WA surrounded by his family. The youngest of six children, he was born on September 8, 1936 in Kenosha, Wisconsin where his father owned a farm implement store on the family homestead. His schooling began in the local one room schoolhouse. He continued his education and received a Bachelor’s of Science at Loras College followed by a Master’s Degree in Radiation Health Physics at the University of Washington and later became a Certified Health Physicist. He married his lovely bride, Joan, in November 1963 in Silver Spring, Maryland. As a commissioned officer with the Public Health Service, he moved his growing family throughout the country with various assignments. Sid’s boyhood dream came true when they settled permanently in Alaska, first in Fairbanks and then in Juneau. In Alaska, he directed the Radiation Safety Program under the Public Health Service and then for the State of Alaska finishing his work career as a private consultant. Sid’s favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting, flying his Piper Cub, and reading history books or adventure survival stories. In his spare time he built a 2,400 sq. foot house in Fairbanks, a fiberglass canoe,
and two wooden boats. When in 1973 the US Supreme Court legalized abortion from conception through nine months of pregnancy, he became an advocate for unborn babies. In response, he started Alaskans for Life, Inc. He served the organization continuously in various capacities until his death. Other favorite organizations for which he volunteered include the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul, and the Pioneer Home. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan, and children Sharon, Marie (Scott) Elmenhurst, Harold (Jennifer), Rosanne (Chris) Wilhelm and Ted (Katie), one sister Audrey Rust, and by a legacy of twenty grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren. His family lovingly remembers him as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend, as a man of humor and a great story-teller, but most importantly as a man of faith and integrity. A funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, August 11, at 10:00 a.m. in Juneau, AK at the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Condolences may be sent to the family at P.O. Box 020658, Juneau, AK 99802. In memory of Sid, donations may be sent to Alaskans for Life at P.O. Box 32186, Juneau, AK 99803.

SAFETY
AROUND THE HOUSE
Some Typical Household Electrical Problems: Faulty Wiring:
Flickering lights, repeated circuit-breaker trips, may be signs of old or unsafe wiring. Shock Hazards:
Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCIs) should be installed on all your kitchen, bathroom and garage outlets. Extension Cords:
Be sure the cord’s wattage rating is right for the appliance or tool. Never use one that has a lower rating, and never use an indoor extension cord outside. Home Repair:
Electrical repairs and renovations should only be done by a licensed electrician.
