1. Determine the cost to provide state essential services and a reserve fund. 2. Subtract funding available for distribution of a Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD). 3. ONLY if additional revenue is needed to balance the State’s budget, should additional fees and taxes be considered. Increasing taxes, before full utilization of the PFD to provide state services, is taxation to pay a PFD- a nonessential need. State welfare programs should be expanded to protect those who have become dependent on the PFD to meet their essential needs. Retention of PFD funds to cover state essentials will better support our state economy by avoiding loss of up to 25% of PFD funds to federal taxes.
TAXES SHOULD NOT BE LEVIED TO SUPPORT PAYMENT OF A PFD! Paid for by Andy Hughes, a PFD recipient and tax payer.

George was born October 20, 1937 in Wichita, Kansas and moved to Seattle in 1965 with his wife Jeana (Jimmie Jean) and their children Derrick and Lisa. George referred to himself as a “cheechako” when he arrived to Juneau in early 1970 with his second wife Sharon and daughter Connie. In December 1970 Derrick joined George. After a short period of living in Scio, Oregon, Derrick and George returned to Juneau in 1976. In the winter of 1977, George met his wife Joan while square dancing. They married in June 1982 and raised Julie and Jason together. George and Joan were married 34 years when Joan passed away in 2016. George moved to Juneau to work as a computer operator for the Department of Labor. He then began a career with the Alaska Marine Highway as a Wiper in 1978 eventually retiring in 1997 as Chief Purser. Juneau was his home for 48 years. George loved God, his family, and most everyone he met. George was a long-time member of Juneau Church of the Nazarene, serving on the Missions Board, cleaning the church, greeter, and helped to build the current parsonage. He enjoyed talking to his son and daughter in Europe whenever he could, watching movies, root beer floats, reading, painting, model trains and fishing. George loved helping others as well—generously and selflessly sharing his heart and time with countless people. There isn’t a church building in the world that could hold the people he touched. He is survived by his son Derrick (Georgina) Trimble of England; daughter Lisa (Marvin) Klein of France, daughter
Julie (Jared) Yancey of Juneau; grandchildren, Ian (Brendan) Klein of California; Brittany (Max) Bender of Colorado; Caleb (Megan) Trimble of Maryland; Elyse (Nick) Zylstra of Washington; Devon (Katelyn Brown) Trimble of Colorado; Amélie Klein of Idaho; Lexie (Walter) Malika of Idaho; Alex (Julie) McCord of Arizona; Nicole Yancey of Juneau; great grandchildren, Kenzie and Aric Trimble of Maryland, Lotus Brown-Trimble, and Gunnar Bender of Colorado, his mother-in law, Rosemary Townsend of Maine; his brother and sisterin- law, Kerry and Robin Townsend of Maine; his brother and sister-in- law, John and Linda Townsend of Massachusetts; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and many friends who loved him. He is preceded in death by his father, George Sterling Trimble Sr. and his mother Louise; his sisters Anita Parks and Karen Kay Rose, son, Jason Hutchinson, and grandson Nolan Bender. Friends are invited to a celebration of his life on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Juneau Church of the Nazarene located at 3220 Mendenhall Loop Road in Juneau, Alaska. You are welcome to come in bright colored clothes, and ready to share your favorite memories of George. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either Juneau Church of the Nazarene - Missions at 3220 Mendenhall Loop Road, Juneau, AK 99801, or to the American Lung Association at their website: www.lung.org. His Family and friends will miss George very much, but we know that he is not only resting in peace, but rejoicing in the presence of God, where we will join him in our time.

Ruth1933-2018 I. Nelson Ruth I. Nelson passed away in her sleep of natural causes and ascended into heaven Thursday March 15. She was 84. Ruth (Ka’ukdegoon) was born in Sitka in 1933 to Walter Haskel Gray (La’goon) and Mary Margaret Gray (X’aal geis’). She was Eagle Kaagwaataan of the Big Box House and the second youngest of seven siblings, all who met her at the pearly gates. She lived her early life during a very tumultuous time for Alaska Native children. She often referred to herself as “a Tlingit in transition.” Ruth graduated from Sitka High School and Sheldon Jackson College where she excelled in basketball. She loved sports and played softball in the early years of her marriage. Ruth met Jim Nelson, a surveyor for the US Bureau of Pubic Roads at the time, at a café where she was a waitress in Sitka. The story goes that she repeatedly turned Jim down for a date. But he was persistent, and they married on a snowy day in 1957. Jim never returned to the Lower 48. The two stayed in Southeast Alaska settling in Juneau where they lived for the last 59 years raising their family, watching them grow and welcoming grandchildren. Ruth loved her family and children. She was never very far from them and stayed home to raise them. While originally Russian Orthodox, Ruth converted to Catholicism to be with her husband in church and became very devout. She was a long-time member of Juneau’s Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Valley’s St. Paul’s Catholic Church. She was an active member of the Charismatic Prayer group. For 18 years Ruth, with her husband Jim, coached newly engaged couples on marriage based upon the teachings of the Church. For eight years they counseled people who wished to
become Catholics. In 1963 Ruth and her husband, with some business partners, purchased a jewelry store on Seward Street called The Nugget Shop. She worked there part-time until they closed it 10 years later. Ruth loved fishing and gathering the Southeast Alaskan foods that are abundant around Juneau. She was an avid gardener for many years and using her green thumb she raised vegetables in the backyard of her Mendenhall Valley home near the glacier. Ruth enjoyed sewing, baking, knitting, quilting and ceramics. She made clothes for the kids, baked homemade bread weekly and for holidays made Russian Easter bread and Christmas stolen. She often made unleavened bread for use at Eucharist and her rhubarb pie won high dollars at Church fundraisers. Her Madonna and Child figurines were a testament to her love for Mary and Jesus. Ruth is survived by her husband of 61 years Jim Nelson, her niece Shirley Krkovich, her children Margaret Nelson, Lucy Nelson, Jim Nelson, Ruth Wright, and six grandchildren Angela Wright, Holly Nelson, Nicolas Wright, Parker Nelson, Taryn Wright and Morgan Wright, numerous nieces and nephews and six grandpuppies. A funeral mass and celebration of life are scheduled Tuesday March 27 at noon at St. Paul’s Church followed by a potluck reception. All are welcome to celebrate her life and her entrance into heaven. Ruth will be interred at The Natural Shrine of St. Therese Wednesday March 28 at 1:30 p.m. The family requests donations in Ruth’s honor to the Alaska Arthritis Foundation Camp ArCTIC, which provides camps for children with arthritis, at https://www. arthritis.org/alaska.
Richard Louis Spaziani September 7, 1928 - February 28, 2018
Richard Louis Spaziani, 89 of Salem, OR, passed away peacefully on Feb. 28th 2018 in Salem. Richard (Dick) was born in Watertown, NY to George and Faye (Pezza) Spaziani on Sept. 7th 1928. After graduating high school in 1946 he enlisted in the Army Air Force and spent 6 years honorably serving our country. He was first stationed in Wichita Falls, TX at the U.S. Air Force Training Base and became a Permanent Grade Staff Sargent. While there he became a Mechanic Supervisor working on the B-29s. Later, Dick was stationed at Kadena Air Force Base on Okinawa during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge Dick went to NY University and graduated from the Stern School of Business with a Master’s degree. After graduation Dick worked at Gimbal Brothers department store in NY City where he developed an inventory system for one of their departments. He then worked as an Industrial Engineer for Republic Aviation on Long Island, NY. He and a crew were sent to Bitburg Germany to work on the F-105 fighter jets. While there, they successfully solved a critical issue the planes were having. While at the Bitburg Air Force Base he met Jeanne duBuy, a Military Dependent School Teacher. After coming back to the “states” they married and Jeanne brought Dick back to her home town of Salem, OR. While in Salem their first son Richard (Rick) was born. Dick decided to continue his education, in education, at Oregon State University. After completing his education courses the family moved to Tillamook, OR, where Dick taught at the local high school. It was there that their second son, Marc, was born. In 1966 the Government of Guam invited Dick to set up a Vocational Education program at the University of Guam. He accepted and the family spent three years on Guam. Dick was then accepted into the Doctoral Program at Oregon State University. He graduated in the top 5%, received his Ed.D. in Education, and joined Phi Kappa Phi as an honorary member. In 1972 Dick was invited by the University
of Alaska S.E., in Juneau Alaska., to develop a Vocational Education program for the University. After successfully creating the department Dick was asked to become the Deputy Director of Education Program Support for the state of Alaska. After a wonderful and successful career, Dick retired in 1987. After retirement Dick and Jeanne volunteered at the Alaska State Museum before moving back to Salem, OR in 1991. It was here he spent most of his wonderful retirement where he could be close to family and friends. Above all, Dick enjoyed being with his family and friends; followed closely by traveling! He also enjoyed planes, reading, cooking, playing cards and telling stories of his adventurous life. For all those who had the good fortune of knowing him, an evening involving the last three was a definite pleasure. Dick is survived by his beloved wife Jeanne, of 55 years; son Rick, his wife Sonya and grandsons Garren and Chase; son Marc, his significant other Katrina Matheny, granddaughters Kaylee (Matthew) Potter, Markie Spaziani and grandson Kegan Young; daughter, by a previous marriage, Jeanne Spaziani (Laurie) Booth, living in England and grandchildren Lucas and Jessamine Booth; sister Doris Layfield of Brandenton, Fl., as well numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. No funeral services are planned at this time. There will be a celebration of his life later this year for this “extraordinary man”, as one of Dick’s hospice care team put it, but the date has not yet been set. Assisiting the family is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to Serenity Hospice. In so many ways each member of Dick’s hospice team not only helped Dick in his final weeks, but the whole family as well. Please make any donations in Dick’s honor to Serenity Hospice Hope Foundation, 11481 SE Hall Blvd. Suite 200. Tigard, OR 97223.

Robin Kay Inhelder 1954-2017
It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that after an 11 month battle with Pleural Mesothelioma, our dear friend and colleague Robin Kay Inhelder passed away on November 10th, 2017, in Sacramento, CA, just a few days after celebrating her 63rd birthday. During the entire period of her illness she was surrounded by friends and family. The last 3 months, we were also joined by Yolo Hospice nurses, known to us as Earth Angels. We will hold Robin in our hearts forever. Robin had a vibrant personality and brought joy to those of us who had the honor to know her. She never hesitated to help family and friends no matter their need, showing up with a big smile on her face. Robin was born in Los Angeles, grew up in the Bay area, Gold Country and Central Valley of California. She graduated from Sacramento State University with a degree in Recreation. Robin retired from the Forest Service on December 1, 2009, with almost 32 years of dedicated service, during which time she worked in Recreation and Lands in
Region 5 (Pacific Southwest), 10 (Alaska), 2 (Rocky Mountains), and finally 1 (Northern). From her retirement until early 2017, Robin traveled extensively all over the US and then went onto exploring the world in general. She especially loved hiking, camping, rafting, good Scotch and attending jazz festivals. Robin had a special gift for making long lasting friendships wherever she went. Besides her many friends, Robin’s brother Eric Inhelder, stepmother Elaine Inhelder and many cousins, especially Allison Woods and Matt Pistel mourn her passing. Robin was predeceased by her parents Claire E Inhelder White (Quinn) and E. Allen Inhelder. We will gather in Juneau at Skater’s Cabin in late May, 2018 to celebrate her life. We may also do a short memorial plane or boat ride, if there are enough interested friends. For details, contact Maria Mattson at mtmattson@ hotmail.com as soon as possible, especially if interested in the plane or boat ride. In remembrance of Robin, contributions are encouraged to the American Cancer Society and/or Yolo Hospice.
