Check in to the Cambridge Belfry Hotel & Spa in the afternoon. Later, we enjoy a welcome drinks reception hosted by our tour manager.

Day 2 Cambridge University Guided Walking & Punting Tour

We spend the day in Cambridge where we start with a guided walking tour of Cambridge University led by university alumni. Admire the beautiful architecture while learning more about this world-famous college with its long and fascinating history. Later, we have the chance to see the iconic Cambridge University colleges from a different perspective as we enjoy a student-guided punting tour on the River Cam. As we glide past eight colleges and underneath nine bridges, including the breathtaking King’s College and Mathematical Bridge, we hear intriguing and often hilarious stories from our guide.

Day 3 Boat Cruise on the River Deben & Beth Chatto’s Plants and Gardens

This morning we make our way to Waldringfield where we board the MV Jahan for a two-hour boat journey along the River Deben. This wonderfully scenic spot lies within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and we learn more about the area’s rich wildlife and history with our on-board commentary. Afterwards, we continue on to Beth Chatto’s Plants and Gardens, inspirational and informal gardens which were begun in 1960 by award-winning gardener Beth Chatto OBE. The series of gardens includes Gravel, Water and Woodland gardens and were created using Beth Chatto’s ecological gardening method and mantra of ‘the right plant for the right place’, where plants grow best when placed in conditions closest to their own habitat. Later, we enjoy an evening meal together at a local restaurant or pub.

Day 4 Nene Valley Railway & Burghley House

We head to Wansford station where we embark on a picturesque, steam-hauled** round trip journey on the heritage Nene Valley Railway to Peterborough. With a journey time of approximately 70 minutes, we travel along the beautiful Nene Valley, through a picturesque landscape of water meadows, arable farmland and a country park. The railway has featured in many films and TV series including the James Bond films Octopussy and Goldeneye.
