Now here is the deal with the Edward Lane article, entitled “Death row inmate Hank Skinner predicts exoneration by DNA testing”, which you can find here: http://www.examiner.com/article/death-row-inmate-hankskinner-predicts-exoneration-by-dna-testing?cid=rss Death row inmate Hank Skinner boldly predicted yesterday to the world that DNA testing agreed to by Wichita Falls native and Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott will clear him (1) of the 1993 murders of his girlfriend and her two children (2) for which he was convicted and sentenced to die. 1/ I did not “boldly predict” I’d be “cleared” or “exonerated”. What I said was “this nightmare is almost over. I’m looking forward to the day I can leave. I’ll either leave with a few boxes under my arm (alive, if the testing pans out) or, in a box (dead, casket, if the tests don’t pan out). I’ve already spent 18 years in hell”. I’m clearly not “predicting” anything but hoping for an end to my suffering, however it turns out. Allowing for either possible result. We won’t know which until we get the final test results. I wonder just how this asinine idiot Edward Lane misconstrued that? Wichita Falls native Greg Abbot TX Attorney General. Ha/ha. 2/ “Children”? Grown men. 6’6”, 245 lbs, 22 years old (“Scooter” Elwin Caler) and 6’1”, 180 lbs, 20 years old (Randy Busby). Current Wichita Falls police detective Brad Love was an officer with the Pampa Police Department on that tragic night and responded to the call where (3) Skinner was found by police hiding in the closet of his (4) ex-wife's house (5). A trail of blood led through the snow (6) from the house of Skinner's girlfriend Twila Busby who was found bludgeoned to death beside the Christmas tree (7). The trail of blood reportedly led officers to where Skinner was found (8) crouching in his ex-wife's closet. 3/ The hiding in the closet crap, again. 4/ But an ex-wife’s closet, now? She lived right around the corner? No, it was an old friend, they called her “girlfriend”, but actually she was just a friend who happened to be a girl, Andrea Reed. 10 years before we were housemates across town, occasional lovers and we almost got married – sort of. We talked about it but, she split town and I found a much younger woman, 17, when I was 23 and at that time Andrea was 37. The younger woman, Crystal Roberts, is my son’s mother. Andrea’s is four and a half blocks over and two blocks down from Twila’s house. 5/ Bullshit. No such thing. No “trail of blood” anywhere. 6/ There was no snow! The roads were 100% clear and it had not snowed at all. It was cold, like 36°F and 19°F with wind chill factor, but clear. 7/ No trail of blood. The record evidence states no such thing, no such evidence was ever photographed or identified in relations to me or Andrea’s house at all, ever. It’s 100% fabrication! 8/ “crouching”. That’s a new one. Before it’s always been “hiding” and/or “cowering” but none of that is true. I was standing in plain sight holding on to a light sconce on the wall because I couldn’t stand up unassisted and on the edge of a mattress on the floor until I fell off it and against the clothes in the closet. I was standing there, holding on onto the light sconce when the po-po’s rushed into the room and flipped on the light; and it startled/blinded me, I spun around backwards pivoting off the arm holding onto the light sconce and smacked into the clothes back first, but the closet was only 18”-2ft deep and it was packed so tight with hanging clothes, it was like a solid wall of cloth! I had my arms out and I didn’t even sink into the clothes at all. I was just right there against them, just like that, in plain sight and out there – my feet slipped off the edge of the mattress and locked my knees hyperflexed, I as jammed with my butt and back 1
against the clothes, and my feet jammed against the mattress, and the po-po’s were all standing on the mattress pointing their guns at me and screaming at me. I was just stuck there, like that, totally helpless. (9)DNA testing presented at Skinner's jury trial proved Busby's blood was on Skinner's bloodstained shirt. (10)Blood from Busby and one of her boys was on Skinner's trousers. 9/ & 10/ That’s a lie. It was never proven it was their blood. It was my blood on me with their DNA in it. That could be any touch and it could’ve occurred before the murders – we’d been in close contact all day that day. I hugged Scooter and Randy often, sometimes a real hug, sometimes just a bro hug, where we’re bumping shoulders and slapping each other on the back. Scooter and I were holding onto each other leaving the house – I couldn’t stand up or walk on my own. But it could’ve been saliva, skin flakes, hair follicles, sweat or traces of any bodily fluid. (11)"I remember seeing blood and matter on Skinner's shoes," Love said. 11/ That’s very interesting, Brad Love. “Blood and matter” on my “shoes”? I had no shoes. I was in my socks only. Love had been attending a New Year's Eve Crime Prevention Meeting when the call came out over the police scanner of the violence at Twila Busby's home. He (12) and other officers responded from all over Pampa on the freezing, (13)snowy night in the Texas Panhandle. 12/ & 13/ No he didn’t. he was called after the fact to Andrea’s, not Twila and my house and only for an evidence bag to put my socks in. They didn’t have any “blood and matter” on them, either. They had a few spots of what they thought then to be blood on the bottoms of the feet, but later turned out to be oil and mud where I came in Andrea’s porch. There was no snow. (14)Once only an hour away from lethal injection, Skinner sees new hope after more than three dozen pieces of evidence were submitted Thursday for DNA testing after the Texas Attorney General's Office withdrew its objection. (15) 14/ An hour? How about 20 minutes away, from death. 15/ No. Conceded defeat. They knew they would lose and could not afford to look bad. Skinner, now 50, told the Houston Chronicle in a story published yesterday that he expects to "be exonerated." (16) 16/ Nowhere in the July 4th Houston Chronicle story (http://www.chron.com/default/article/State-to-getSkinner-evidence-for-DNA-testing-3684530.php) do I say those words, nor am I ever quoted previously saying those words. Again, it’s 100% fabrication. Unbelievable!!! (17)Ironically, Skinner chose not to request any of the items be submitted for DNA testing in 1995 before his trial for fear the results would incriminate (18) him. Again, in 2000, when the district attorney had other items DNAtested, Skinner elected not to do so. Now, with nothing to lose, he is suddenly demanding it be tested.(19) 17/ Lies. In the federal habeas hearing is a letter I wrote to my trial lawyer Comer, June 16th 1994, demanding that he get the evidence tested and he totally failed to carry out my wishes. At the hearing he claimed he never read that letter, only “scanned it” and miraculously he “somehow didn’t see that part”. Yet still he claimed he didn’t test the evidence because he claimed he feared that it’d incriminate me – but how could he legitimately “fear” that when he had the report from the criminalist who examined the evidence telling him the jacket had blood spatter all over the cuffs and forearms of the sleeves, indicating it was worn by the assailant, and it’s a man’s XLG 44-46, 8 full sizes too big for me and it’s got sandy colored hairs in the collar and I’m black headed? 18/ In 2000, when Mann tested evidence for DNA, he ran a smear campaign in the local papers, and he alone unilaterally chose what to test. My attorneys wrote him certified letters requesting to have input and 2
to allow us to select items to test too, and Mann totally ignored us. When the results of his one-sided tests still proved exculpatory, he lied about them and said instead they “pointed to” me. Total crap and lies. I never “elected not to” test anything. I’ve constantly demanded testing since the day of my arrest to now. All the state has done is lie, deny, obfuscate, suppress, refuse, spin false propaganda and today they’re still doing that exact same crap. Look at the AG’s Lauren Bean comments about the testing and jacket in the July 4th Houston Chronicle story by Allan Turner. 19/ No, I’ve been trying to get it tested since the day of my arrest, 01.01.94 and we’ve been consistently filing formal motions and requests in the courts since 1997. On that tragic night, Twila Busby was strangled and bludgeoned to death while her two sons were stabbed to death. Love remembers that one of the boys managed to survive long enough to exit the bloody house but only made it as far as a neighbor's porch. At his trial, Skinner's attorneys claimed he couldn't have done it because he was (20) unconscious as the result of imbibing vodka and codeine and being passed out inside the house on a couch. 20/ “Conscious” or not, incapacitated and physically incapable of wielding the weapons due to previous injuries to my hand. My thumb, at its base and across my palm, was nearly severed. At the time of the murders it’d barely healed, I’d got the drainage tube out, it was barely closed, the scarring still formed a welt, pink and raw. I couldn’t use my thumb to close my hand, I could barely hold a hairbrush and it was my right hand, I’m right handed! Twila was strangled by hands so powerful, they left permanent indentations in her flesh and crushed the bones in her neck. There’s no way I could have done that. Nor could I have wielded the club or the knives. My hand was so tender and sensitive, if anything bumped against it, I’d cringe and moan. It was worse than hitting the funny bone in your elbow, it’d paralyze me and bring tears to my eyes. Evidence presented at the jury trial showed Ms. Busby had been struck with a blunt instrument 14 times. An axe handle was found near Ms. Busby. (21) Son Elwin Caler, 22, was found stabbed to death in the bedroom (22). Younger son Randy Busby, 20, made it to a neighbor's porch from where he was rushed to a Pampa hospital where he later died. 21/ There’s no evidence of that. The police report says he was in the living room. 22/ Randy was found in the bedroom, in bed. Scooter left and walked around to the neighbors’ house across the alley to the next street over, sat down on the porch and died. Neither of them died at any hospital. Scooter was DOA, no vital signs, unable to be resuscitated. Randy was never taken to the hospital, but straight to the morgue in Amarillo. (23) Love said Skinner walked the short distance from his girfriend Twila Busby's house to his ex-wife's (24) house, saying, (25) "The ex-wife's house was just around the corner from Ms. Busby's home." 23/ There’s no evidence I walked to Andrea’s. I have no memory of it, just falling and crawling. I think someone helped me or carried me down there. 24/ The police thought maybe my ex-wife was staying at Andrea’s and that’s why they went there; to see if they could locate her and if she had seen me. The sheriff later claimed he “developed the theory” that if I’d killed Twila then my ex-wife Connie would be next and he was trying to find her, to save her life. If not the craziest thing I’ve ever heard, it’s damn close to it. My ex-wife wasn’t at Andrea’s, she was living on the North side of town, 3 miles or so away with a lesbian named Cathy Jinks. 25/ No it wasn’t. It was across town! 3
(26) Love testified in the jury trial which took place in Fort Worth because of a change of venue order to move the case out of Pampa. 26/ No he didn’t. He testified in one pretrial hearing in Pampa, about the bag the socks were put into. He went to Fort Worth only to provide security and help transport state’s witnesses in his cruiser from the motel to the courthouse. Now that’s one helluva lot of serious factual mistakes for just one story, ain’t it? People wonder how these things happen? Well, explained in various ways throughout this letter are the living examples. I wish I could say “well, you know, it’s jut human fallibility and they made honest mistakes and now they’re gonna straighten it out”. But no, that’s not true. So much of what they’ve done evinces knowledge that they knew the truth but deliberately chose to create a lie to cover it up or obfuscate because they can’t stand to lose, and they’ll do anything to avoid it, it seems.
