Master’s Par Three Tournament
Saturday, April 9, 9 am Shotgun Start $30 adult; $20 junior (under 18) We have established a tradition here at Somersett Golf & Country Club that every April during the Masters Golf Tournament we play a commemorative par three tournament. The Masters Golf Tournament is traditionally the start of the golf season—even in Reno. The event we play here is similar to the one played at Augusta’s Par Three Course on the Wednesday prior to the actual tournament. Everyone in the Somersett Community is welcome to participate and this year’s event will be held at the Country Club course. Again all Country Club members and Somersett residents are welcome to enter. We will have a Men’s Division, Women’s Division and Junior Division. We will award the top gross (actual score) and net (with established handicap through the GHIN system) scores. Adults not having an established handicap will participate in the Callaway Scoring Division. Junior scoring will be gross only however if participation warrants we will have age divisions. We will have a “Deuce Pool” for all players that make a gross two on a hole. In case of a Hole-in-One all “Deuce Pool” money will go to those making Hole-in-Ones. We will award closest to the hole on all par threes for men and women. Juniors will fall into the men and women category for closest to the hole awards. While playing your round we will also test your knowledge with a Master’s Trivia Contest. The event will be a 9 am shotgun start. The cost of the event is $30 per adult player and $20 per junior player. Entry includes green fee, prize fund and a $5 food credit in the SunSett Grille to be used either prior to your round or after your round. After your round please join us in the SunSett Grille to watch

Tips from the Country Club Stuart Smith – PGA Director of Golf
Best Training Aid
On a snowy winter afternoon I was reading a fellow instructor’s swing tips where he was asked what the single best training aid is for the game of golf. His answer was—the golf course. For it is on the golf course that you will encounter all of the challenges of hillside lies, different conditions, club selections and myriad different shots that the game presents. Many of us spend too much time on the range and don’t get out to actually experience the game. Make it a point this year to play the Canyon 9 and the Country Club Course—some of the best golf in northern Nevada is right here in your backyard! If you need help with your game contact our four professionals at the golf shop...787-1800 Ext 2.

Biggest Little City, Really Big Fish By Patrick Turner, Marketing & Communications Director, The Discovery
First stop, Reno!
National Geographic’s newest traveling exhibition, Monster Fish: In Search of the Last River Giants, began its international journey at The Discovery on November 14, 2015. This wondrous exhibition will only be on display through April 24th, so don’t let this one get away! The Discovery shares a special connection with this exhibition because it comes from local roots. Monster Fish showcases the research of a fellow Nevadan, Dr. Zeb Hogan. In addition to being a National Geographic Fellow and host of the Nat Geo WILD series Monster Fish, Dr. Hogan is also a professor in the College of Science at the University of Nevada, Reno. Just like every other child, Dr. Hogan grew up with aspirations rooted in adventure, which never went away. He found a true passion for the colossal monsters that swim in rivers and lakes, and shares this intriguing research through this 6,000 square-foot exhibition. Dr. Hogan takes museum visitors on an awe-inspiring, around-the-world journey to explore colossal freshwater mega-fish, their habitats, and the people that depend on them. This highly interactive exhibit includes five monstrous life-size models, captivating videos and hands-on interactive activities, which are split between four river-basin regions including North America, South America, Asia and Australia. You’ll feel as though you are right there with Zeb when you go face-to-face with over 20 species of monster fish, all more than six feet in length and over 200 pounds! Along with Monster Fish, The Discovery also offers many other galleries and exhibits—67,000 square-feet in total—all in support of the museum’s efforts to create interest and engagement in science for visitors of all ages.

Comparative Market Analysis Summary Report
A
comparative market analysis (CMA) is an evaluation of similar, recently sold homes (called comparables) that are near a home intended to be bought or sold. Comparative market analyses establish the current market value of the home and are prepared by real estate agents. A comparative market analysis is not the same as an appraisal, which is performed by a licensed appraiser. These figures are provided by David Hughes at Dickson Realty. This information is deemed reliable, but not guaranteed.

Occupation: Financial Advisor with Waddell & Reed YEARS IN RENO: 24 years Originally from: Grass Valley, California Greatest Accomplishments: Collin (7), Carter (6) and Colton (1). Favorite Activities: Camping in our trailer, cheering on the Wolf Pack, family vacations in Tahoe, watching my boys play sports and getting out with my girlfriends for the occasional night out. last book read: I’m all over the place with my book selections and usually read multiple at one time. Recently I read Me Before You (with my Somersett book club), The Andy Cohen Diaries (In January I had a chance to meet Andy and it was great fun; Andy and Bravo shows are my guilty pleasure), and Better Than Before (a book about making and breaking habits).
Why Somersett: My husband, John, and I bought a home in Somersett in 2005 before we had children. We loved the location because it was “out of town,” but yet we only had one stop light on our drive home. We were also looking to join a Country Club and play more golf. We now have three boys and that’s limited our golf time, but through the Club, and the neighborhood in general, we’ve made some incredible friends who have become a second family to us. It’s so nice for the entire family to have close friends who are just a quick walk or golf cart drive away. Even our one year old has a best buddy here in the neighborhood. As the boys get older, they’re also taking up the game of golf and we love the Junior Golf Program here. We also take advantage of the walking and hiking trails, the quiet side streets for family bike rides, early morning gym classes with Robyn at the Town Center and the entire family loves sushi dinners at Sakana. We’re also very excited because just recently John’s parents purchased a home in Del Webb. So now in addition to friends close by, we’ve also got Grammy and Grampy just a quick walk or bike ride away.

Responsible Dog Ownership
S
pring weather tempts all of us to be outside on a warm, cloudless day in our beautiful Somersett. The miles of walking paths offer the opportunity to exercise, meet neighbors and, if we are dog owners, to spend time outside with our four legged friends. But, with pet ownership, comes responsibility, when walking our dogs. How many times have you turned a corner on the trail and been accosted by an exuberant, unleashed dog? Some of us are not “animal people”, and are not pleased with unexpected encounters with a strange dog no matter its size, and there are some who are quite frightened of unwanted canine attention. Being a responsible dog owner in a thickly settled community means having consideration for neighbors and having awareness of the rules, regulations and laws that apply to dog ownership. The Somersett Owners Association Rules and Regulations, and Washoe County Code, require all dogs to be on a leash, or controlled by some other reasonable restraint when not within the confines of a properly fenced lot. In addition, all pet owners are required to immediately clean up their animal’s excrement while walking their dog outside of their own lot, and must clean up their own yards within a reasonable period of time, in order to maintain sanitary conditions in the neighborhood. Although the Association has dog waste bags and trash cans installed at various points along the trails, making sure to tie a disposal bag to your leash before leaving your home with your pet is a good habit to cultivate. No matter how responsible we are with our dogs, there will inevitably be an occasion or two when even the most well behaved pet will escape the safety of its yard and stray to parts unknown. In such a situation, compliance with Washoe County’s licensing law, requiring all dogs over four months old to be licensed with Animal Services, will make reunion with your errant animal a much likelier outcome, since the dog will be easily identified by the information on its tag. As pet owners, we have a duty to keep our animals safe and happy, and an obligation to be good citizens by complying with animal control laws and regulations. BETWEEN MAE ANNE & ROBB DR.
Occupation: IT Consultant for IBM YEARS IN RENO: Getting close to 40 years now Originally from: Technically, I was born in the Los Angeles area, but moved to Reno when I was just over 1, so I consider myself to be from Reno. Greatest Accomplishments: I served 20 years in the Navy as a fighter pilot and adversary instructor, I flew missions over Somalia, Iraq, and Southeast Texas. After my flying career, I went back to the University of Nevada and earned a Masters in Computer Science to help jump start a new career. I have an amazing wife and wonderful daughter. Favorite Activities: Travel, cooking, photography, skiing, golf, hiking, boating, camping, guitar
LAST BOOK READ: Technically, it was Goodnight Moon for the hundredth time last night with my daughter. Other than that, I recently read Full Black by Brad Thor. Why Somersett: I grew up in Northwest Reno and was in the first graduating class at McQueen. I love this area and have family and friends close by. We have great proximity to the lake, the mountains and are just a quick jaunt into town. We were drawn to Somersett by the amenities. The Club is great with lots of fun activities. The pool is fantastic in the summer and we can hit a round of golf on the Canyon 9 or the Championship course or walk out the door and hike the foothills. I really like that we are removed from the city, but close enough to enjoy the amenities in minutes. The best part, though, is the people who live here and make this community home.

David Nisenfeld
D
avid Nisenfeld moved to Reno and into Somersett in 2007 from Oakland, CA. He, along with his family, relocated for a job opportunity with TriNet. His family looked throughout the Tahoe and Truckee area and decided that Somersett was the best fit! They wanted to be as close to the mountains as possible, but still near all of the city offerings that Reno holds. Dave lives in Somersett with his wife Danielle, who he stated, “is the BEST physical therapist in all of Nevada—make that the United States!”, and their two daughters Hannah and Leah. As a family, they greatly enjoy the amenities that Somersett has to offer. In the summer, you can find Dave and his family by the pool, utilizing the youth programs and camps, or hitting the tennis courts in John’s clinics. They’ve also enjoyed the summer events and happenings in the community, such as the Farmers Market and Music on the Green. When not in the Somersett Community, they enjoy Skiing and snowboarding in the winter and attending the Rib Cook Off and River Fest in the summer. Dave also enjoys craft beer and brewing his very own home brew. Over the past five years, Dave has been working as a consultant with Workday, a cloud based Software Company that helps other businesses implement Enterprise Software such as HCM, payroll and financials. He enjoys meeting people, traveling and the opportunity to work from home, so that he can spend more time with his family – including coaching his daughter’s soccer team! Dave has served on the Communications Committee since 2012, and was an instrumental player in securing the crosswalk approval with the City of Reno, which is now located across from the East Park and the Town Square. With encouragement from his friends and neighbors, Dave ran for the board in hopes to focus on community safety and security, along with amenity growth.
