Somersett’s Annual Food Drive
Launches Saturday, October 17 According to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, one in five children in Nevada is hungry. And the spread of the coronavirus and the resulting downturn in the economy is making the situation even more dire.
Each fall, Somersett partners with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada to hold a Holiday Drive, which traditionally kicks off during Touch-A-Truck & Fall Festival. This year, even if we are forced to cancel the event due to the coronavirus, we will still begin our Food Drive on Saturday, Oct. 17. So, while you are grocery shopping this fall, please buy a little extra for your hungry neighbors, and drop the items in the bins at the Club at Town Center.
WHAT TO DONATE Access to nutritious food is vital for our neighbors who face hunger, and we ask that those donating food choose the most nutritious items available whenever possible. When making a food donation, please use the list below to determine what foods to donate. • Canned meals: stews, soups, spaghetti/ravioli (low-sodium preferred) • Protein: peanut butter, tuna, salmon, chicken, dried or canned beans kick-off to the Club’s holiday food drive benefiting the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.
Get here early – the first 125 kids to arrive in costume will snag a bag of treats! There will be a costume contest, a magician, facepainting, pumpkins and more. Bring your non-perishable food items to participate in the fun! See page 30 for photos from last year’s
event.
Fall Garage Sale
Saturday, October 3, 7 am–3 pm Mark your calendar for October 3 when the final community-wide garage sale of 2020 gets underway If you are a Somersett resident (including Sierra Canyon, The Village and The Vue!) and you would like your address listed on the map, please email robin.bolson@fsresidential.com by the end of the day on Monday, Sept. 28. Because we are using Google Maps this year (see below), we can list highlights of what you are selling, so please include them when you sign up to be included on the map. New! A digital map of participating homes will be available beginning Wednesday, September 30. A link will be provided on the Somersett Reno, Nevada Facebook page, and on the home page of www.Somersett.net.
Participants are welcome to put up signs during the sale to direct shoppers to their street and house. Signs must be taken down at 3 pm when the sale ends.
