Below is a transcription of this video – I wanted to share this video about something funny going on with my daughter. She is pushing three years old and she has her play dates over and she’s at that age where she doesn’t like to share her toys and doesn’t like other people sharing her toys. They are just starting to learn about sharing, but they learn about sharing with the concept of when they want something, they should use it as a strategy to get it from the other person so they will tell their friend that they need to learn how to share when they want something.
So they just go around saying they need to share but don’t necessarily practice the sharing. I tell the story because there are so many strategies that we’ve got that we know that we are misusing or that we understand from a conceptual standpoint. Anytime when somebody’s not doing something or not getting the results that they want, I used to be one of these people and probably am at some standpoint, knowing is doing and knowing is putting something into action. It’s not having the knowledge about the specifics that makes the difference; it’s having the knowledge and having the perseverance to take the right actions is when you really know. With the three year olds that know about sharing but just aren’t putting the sharing into practice. I share this information because it’s something funny and something we deal with and then the teaching that goes with it. So just having the basic knowledge is just a starting point and actually being fulfilled with that knowledge and doing something with that knowledge makes a difference.
