. .because we shouldn’t be so easily swayed by a White male school director doing the “Na-Na” with his Black students while we proclaim him the “educator of the year”. We are far too emotionally driven. 99% of us who placed Mr. Ron Clark on a pedestal for dancing with our children have no idea what his school looks like, what the hell is being taught to those impressionable Black children, or who the hell is teaching it to them. Let me help you. . The school serves predominantly Black middle-school students in Atlanta, most of the students qualifying for Title I benefits, or basically students who come from what would be considered impoverished households. The staff is predominantly White, most likely White women not from anywhere near the same environments as most of these children. its Board of Trustees is made up of predominantly White males. .if you don’t understand why this is a travesty, please disengage from this article now; this isn’t meant for you. Lastly, nothing about the curriculum of this school is centered towards educating African children, it isn’t afro-centered, not a lick of it, as would be expected with a Board of Trustees made up of mostly White males. I am 100% certain that nowhere in the U.S. do you have a school of predominantly White children having an afro-centered education forced upon them; it would never happen. Why would European parents embrace an education for their children that teaches them to be everything but themselves. They would not allow their White children to receive an education that doesn’t empower them with information about them, their history, and the tools required to advocate for their own communities. Why do we? Any “education” you place upon a Black child without that child having knowledge of themselves is simply indoctrination, it is not empowering. It only tools the child to maybe go to college, and to possibly become an employee at best. This sort of education never tools our children to become leaders and advocates for their own communities, just profit makers for the communities of others. And here we are. Feel free to call me “Debbie Downer” or label me a “hater” for not going “goo goo ga ga” over a White male “educator” dancing with Black children. I know far too many Black male and female educators who are far more impactful to our children who aren’t being given access to our children at this time, educators who truly make a difference. . Ron Clark isn’t a new phenomenon; we’ve been receiving Euro-centered educations since our arrival here. Taking a closer look, you will also find that the overwhelming majority of these charter schools are simply Jews and Europeans dictating to Africans what the educations of their children should look like, while making money doing it. Meanwhile, the African community is still languishing in last place economically, socially, politically, and academically, because nothing about the educations we receive from “others” empowers us to build for ourselves. At some juncture, we’ve got to take ownership of learning that affects our children’s development and cease surrendering it to others, who are more than content to continue to own us as employees. Those that disengage from the process due to it having little relevance in their lives, are likely to populate prisons these same people own. Time for us to own our own existence. These “Mr. Clarks” are not our saviors. WE ARE.

MANAGING THE FEAR AND ANXIETY OF THE UNKNOWN All most everybody worries about what will happen in the future. The prospect of not knowing if something good or bad will happen to you in the near future can produce a lot of fear and anxiety. As a result, here is a list of techniques and suggestions on how to manage this fear of dealing with the unknown.

Remember that no one can predict the future with one hundred percent certainty. Even if the thing that you are afraid of does happen there are circumstances and factors that you can’t predict which can be used to your advantage. For instance, let’s say at your place of work that you miss the deadline for a project you have been working on for the last few months. Everything you feared is coming true. Suddenly, your boss comes to your office and tells you that the deadline is extended and that he forgot to tell you the day before. This unknown factor changes everything. Remember that we may be ninety-nine percent correct in predicting the future, but all it takes is for that one percent to make a world of difference. Learn to take it one day at a time. Instead of worrying about how you will get through the rest of the week or coming month, try to focus on today. Each day can provide us with different opportunities to learn new things and that includes learning how to deal with your problems. When the time comes, hopefully you will have learned the skills to deal with your situation. Sometimes, we can get anxious over a task that we will have to perform in the near future. When this happens, visualize yourself doing the task in your mind. For instance, you and your team have to play in the championship volleyball game in front of a large group of people in the next few days. Before the big day comes, imagine yourself playing the game in your mind. Imagine that you’re playing in front of a large audience. By playing the game in your mind, you will be better prepared to perform for real when the time comes. Self-Visualization is a great way to reduce the fear and stress of a coming situation and increase your self-confidence. Remember to take a deep breath and try to find something to do to get your mind off of you anxieties and stresses. A person could take a walk, listen to some music, read the newspaper, watch TV, play on the computer or do an activity that will give them a fresh perspective on things. This will distract you from your current worries. A lot of times, our worrying can make the problem even worse. All the worrying in the world will not change anything. All you can do is to do your best each day, hope for the best, and when something does happen, take it in stride. If you still have trouble managing your anxiety of the future, then talking to a counselor or clergyman can be of great help. There are ways to help manage your fear and all it takes is some effort to find those answers. BIOGRAPHY:

When I think of writing about my life; it brings back a memory of feeling my bare, cold and soiled feet while walking in endless miles of sticky, wet mud roads trailed with green tropical grass and tall old mahogany trees. It rained last night. Like most nights but in the morning, the sunlight is enchantingly creating rainbows on raindrops that have settled on each tree leaves. Ah! Those are the most fragrant and beautiful sight. My friends and I played hide and seek on our way to school while we walk comfortably at our pace, determined to not miss the first warning bell for our class that day. I was 9, somewhere in a very remote “Barangay” in the Islands of the Philippines. Decades later, Some of my friends stayed in the same place, got married and went on having children. Some of us traveled far and built an unexpected and perhaps an extraordinary lives. ...The unexpected and extraordinary life I talked about are not the fancy titles and list of accomplishments that most of us use to define “ourselves”. It is about a life that is full of opportunities, far beyond what I can explore in my lifetime. When I look back to that simple, focused and seemingly pointless existence as a child; I wondered what was worth living then? What is worth living for now? What were my fears and aspirations? Who I wanted to be and What have I become? Were the miles I traveled away from there far enough, the steps big enough, important enough? Was it all worth it? These questions are the things that drives me everyday to create a life that is extraordinary, to make something of myself, not just for me but for every little girl who doesn’t know what is possible. So One day, when I meet an uncertain and weary girl, I can tell her with absolutely certainty that--You can do it! Because I Did.
