What’s On Spring/Summer 2022

Dear Friends, It feels like only yesterday that we were celebrating our return to the building, and here we are with another jam-packed season of spectacular summer programming. It’s such a pleasure to see more and more of you back in person at our Community Centre, and this summer sees our content come alive with the return of some old favourites, as well as some new and exciting events for you to get stuck into. This year, we’ll once again be celebrating our favourite stories at Bookniks (p50), our children’s book festival. Experience Paddington Bear’s first concert (p52), enjoy drama and chocolate workshops and round off the day with world record-breaking beat boxer SK Shlomo (p54). For Music mavens, we’ve got a celebration of the great American Songbook (p7), a night of authentic Jewish folk music with Buenos Klezmer (p9), and together with our friends at Green Note we’ll be Celebrating 50 years of the beloved Carole King album Tapestry (p8). You also won’t want to miss out on Eli and the Golem (p13) from acclaimed puppet theatre makers, Strangeface, stand-out (and sell-out) comedians Simon Brodkin (p10) and Tova Leigh (p11), and the return of SERET Israeli Film and TV festival (p17) to our wonderful boutique cinema. And that’s not to mention our regular roster of world-class Adult Education classes, language classes (including the return of our popular Summer Ulpan sessions), Family activities, Young JW3 events and so much more. So sit back, relax, have a flick through what we’ve put together for you, and I can’t wait to see you here soon.

Raymond Simonson CEO, JW3

Antisemitism The last few years have seen public conversation dominated by polarised views and opinions, and unsurprisingly, it’s more and more common to find yourself sitting in the same room as someone you disagree with. Our new series will explore how we can communicate across divides, and help you to develop the tools and strategies to have respectful conversations without compromising beliefs and values. With expert facilitators, these hands-on and interactive sessions will explore different pressing issues – and how to overcome barriers around discussing them. Our first session explores the current rise in antisemitism, what is fuelling it, and how to navigate conversations around it. Sunday 3 July, 6pm £10 per person
