Dear Friends, Welcome to JWI’s 2017 Women to Watch celebration! We are so excited for the day ahead. We have had the great fortune of working with our honorees for months now and soon you will know what we know…that they are 10 incredibly inspiring women. From spearheading social justice initiatives for the NFL to bringing a renewed sense of spirituality and connection to our Judaism to connecting women in order to create career enhancing networks, our 2017 honorees are truly changing the game and igniting powerful conversations. As you are inspired by them, we hope that you will also be inspired by us. JWI’s work, each and every day, be it on college campuses or domestic violence shelters or Capitol Hill, deals with the most critical issues impacting women and girls today. Being here today makes a difference as 80% of the proceeds from today’s luncheon supports our efforts. Yesterday, we held our fifth annual national mentoring conference as part of our Sondra D. Bender Leadership Institute. Over the past five years, close to 1,000 young women from across the country have taken part in this annual event, which connects our next generation of leaders with current and former Women to Watch. Thousands more participate in monthly workshops in D.C., New York, Los Angeles, Denver, and, coming soon, Chicago! It is exciting to see so many young women connect with us, not only for these unique mentoring opportunities, but as a way to forge community and speak up on issues that matter most to them. Today’s program is rich with the wisdom and energy of our extraordinary honorees. We are also delighted to be announcing the Joan Margolius Cherner Fund which will create an enduring legacy to memory of Joanie Cherner. Thank you for joining us today to shine a bright light on women’s leadership and to support out work. Because of you, we are changing lives… giving all women access to women role models and mentors, to knowledge that will be the bridge to economic security, and to lives lived free of violence. B’shalom,

Vivian G. Bass Chair, Board of Trustees

JWI JWI brings vision, voice, and leadership to issues that impact all women and girls. Our innovative programs, advocacy, and philanthropic initiatives are at work every day to end violence, promote economic security and spotlight leadership for women and girls. We use every tool we have to help at-risk women take control of their lives; to put girls in control of their futures; and to break the cycle of abuse. THE WOMEN TO WATCH CELEBRATION This marks the 17th annual celebration of JWI and its award-winning JW magazine honoring extraordinary Women to Watch, selected for outstanding accomplishments and contributions to our society and the American Jewish experience. These women inspire others to achieve with their strength and intelligence. Individually and collectively, they add to the incredible legacy of Women to Watch leadership. THE YOUNG WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE This is the culmination of a year's worth of Young Women’s Leadership Network programming. The day before JWI's annual Women to Watch gala, current and past honorees provide guidance and inspiration to young women who are building their careers. The conference is funded by the Sondra D. Bender Leadership Institute at JWI. JWI’S PHILANTHROPY JWI is deeply committed to supporting initiatives and programs that help women and children build more secure and healthy lives. Our philanthropic initiatives bolster the financial literacy and security of women and girls across the economic spectrum, while the National Library Initiative establishes new children’s libraries in domestic violence shelters nationwide. THE SONDRA D. BENDER LEADERSHIP AWARD Named to honor the late philanthropist and generous supporter of JWI’s work to empower women and girls, this will be our 13th year honoring one woman for her work to galvanize the Washington, D.C. community, mentor new leaders and make the D.C. area a better place to live, work, and thrive. JW MAGAZINE JWI’s signature publication is the go-to source for in-depth stories and analysis on issues that impact women and girls. Stay informed and inspired at jwi.org/magazine.
