JWI JWI brings vision, voice, and leadership to issues that impact all women and girls. Our innovative programs, advocacy, and philanthropic initiatives are at work every day to end violence, promote economic security and spotlight leadership for women and girls. We use every tool we have to help at-risk women take control of their lives; to put girls in control of their futures; and to break the cycle of abuse. THE WOMEN TO WATCH CELEBRATION This marks the 18th annual celebration of JWI honoring extraordinary Women to Watch, selected for outstanding accomplishments and contributions to our society and the American Jewish experience. These women inspire others to achieve with their strength and intelligence. Individually and collectively, they add to the incredible legacy of Women to Watch leadership. THE YOUNG WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE This is the culmination of a year's worth of Young Women’s Leadership Network programming. The day before JWI's annual Women to Watch celebration, current and past honorees provide guidance and inspiration to young women who are building their careers. The conference is funded by the Sondra D. Bender Leadership Institute at JWI. JWI’S PHILANTHROPY JWI is deeply committed to supporting initiatives and programs that help women and children build more secure and healthy lives. Our philanthropic initiatives bolster the financial literacy and security of women and girls across the economic spectrum, while the National Library Initiative establishes new children’s libraries in domestic violence shelters nationwide. THE SONDRA D. BENDER COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AWARD Named to honor the late philanthropist and generous supporter of JWI’s work to empower women and girls, this will be our 15th year honoring one woman for her work to galvanize the Washington, D.C. community, mentor new leaders and make the D.C. area a better place to live, work, and thrive. JWI MAGAZINE JWI’s signature publication is the go-to source for in-depth stories and analysis on issues that impact women and girls. Stay informed and inspired at jwi.org/magazine.

18th Annual Women to Watch Gala • #WTW18
Dear Friends, Welcome to JWI’s 2018 Women to Watch celebration! As this is our 18th year, we are celebrating not only the 180 leaders we've honored since 2000, but also JWI’s enduring legacy of leadership. Take a moment to look around the room: More than 60 former Women to Watch are here with us today – because being named a Woman to Watch is not a one-day event, it’s an invitation to join a community of mentors and role models, paving the way for the next generation of women leaders. Yesterday, we held our sixth annual Young Women’s Leadership Conference as part of our Sondra D. Bender Leadership Institute. More than 250 young women traveled from across the country to learn from current and former Women to Watch honorees. At the same time, they took steps to build their own community and strengthen their voices to speak out on issues that matter to all women and girls. They are among the thousands of young women who participate in our monthly Network workshops in D.C., New York, Los Angeles, Denver, and Chicago. They are the future, and when we look at them, we see our legacy assured. You’ll hear that phrase a lot today: "Legacy of leadership." But today is also about 10 incredibly inspiring women whom we have so enjoyed getting to know this past year. From a groundbreaking Academy Award winner to our youngest-ever honoree who founded a media company in her college dorm room, our 2018 honorees are truly changing the game and igniting powerful conversations. As you are inspired by them, we hope that you will also be inspired by us. JWI’s work – each and every day, from college campuses to domestic violence shelters to Capitol Hill – deals with the most critical issues impacting women and girls. You being here today makes a difference, as 80% of the proceeds from this luncheon supports our efforts. Thank you for joining us today to shine a bright light on women’s leadership and to support out work. Because of you, we are changing lives: Giving all women access to role models and mentors; to knowledge that will be the bridge to economic security; and to lives free of violence. B’shalom, Vivian G. Bass Chair, Board of Trustees Lori Weinstein JWI CEO

Heartfelt thanks to CEO Lori Weinstein, Board Chair Vivian Bass, our committed board of trustees, and the incredibly hardworking staff of JWI! From the time I received JWI's first Community Leadership Award, my mother and I always looked forward to attending Women to Watch together. It came full circle when the Sondra D. Bender Community Leadership Award was named in her memory, and then the Sondra D. Bender Leadership Institute was formed, helping expand JWI's Young Women's Leadership Network across the country. Being a grandmother of 11 – six of them girls – she would be so proud, and I am grateful to JWI for building such a meaningful legacy in her name.

A woman of valor – seek her out, for she is to be valued above rubies… She opens her hands to those in need and offers her help to the poor… Adorned with strength and dignity, she looks to the future with cheerful trust… Give her honor for her work; her life proclaims her praise. — from Proverbs 31
Sondra D. Bender and Howard Bender
“I want to be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mentor, mother and grandmother who lived life to the fullest and enjoyed every moment of it. I want to be remembered for laughing a lot, crying a little and sharing many special times with family and friends. I always wondered if peace, a lasting peace, would ever be realized in our lifetime.” ~Sondra D. Bender
