Research VISUAL RESEARCH

Design Brief The Do Nothing is an old-timey toy that allows you to, well, do nothing. The goal is to develop a modern brand and packaging for the toy. This will include a brand identity, color pallete, logo treatment, and packaging.

5

Packaging can be simplified and printed on a thick, smooth cardboard to make the toy feel more luxurious; suitabe for all ages.

DES 300

Do Nothing Toy can be redesigned where the handle can bend inwards. This will allow the toy to be displayed more ergonomically on a shelf when put into a square box.

6

For the packaging, I wanted to create a narrative that connects to the Do Nothing Toy. Based on the repetative motion, the toy moves in a path without accomplishing anything. Simillarly, sports can have this mundane effect on the spectators. The goal is to incoorporate this humorous twist on the design.

7 DES 300

The packaging can be designed in that it revolves around different pointless sports. The Do Nothing Toy can be a collectable that individuals buy in relation to sports they play or watch.

Packaging allows for user interaction with the ability to turn the handle. Seems a little clumsy for display purposes.

Having a lid can be interesting, but the shape does not relate to the toy.

DESIGN SKETCHES

Setted on a simpler two part box: Exterior box contains information while interior box slides out to hold the Do Nothing Toy.

Prototyping COLOR PALETTE

The color palette is inspired by sport courts. The visible soft pastel colors on the packaging will highlight that no one is on the court playing the sport.

LOGO SKETCHES

Font: Futura Began by filling in some of the shapes created by the letterfoms with colors. I am experimenting with color palette.

I like that the “O” resembles the moving part in the Do Nothing Toy. However, a consistent set of shapes is not applied throughout the letters. The “G” and “N” look a little awkward.

FINAL LOGO

The final logo utilizes these shapes to make the letterforms. The shapes emulate the rigid construction of the Do Nothing Toy.
