Project Description The project aims to develop the downtown area “Quraysh Street, King Talal Street and Al Hashemi Street” through transit-oriented development (TOD) and strategies of sustainable urban mobility planning (SUMP). Site Assessment notes Poor sustainable transportation planning. Low engaging of the locals with the decision making. A questionnaire has been done in the Downtown of Amman and these are the issues the locals have highlighted in the area.

What is the problem? How Amman is a frozen city in time where the buildings stay the same, the systems stay the same with just little changes. This may have given Amman’s Downtown the identity throughout the years but the world is developing in a rapid pace and the Downtown has to adapt to that change to meet the technological and sustainable standards in 2022. The Ballad’s roadways have long been ruled by automobiles; it’s time for a change to give the people control of these roads once again. Transit oriented development is the solution for all these problems. Methodology Our plan is to offer the public a strong transportation network in the downtown that serves the city center individually and connects with the transportation terminals. Therefore, automobiles traffic will be reduced radically and the spaces for cars will be redesigned to enhance walkability and other modes of transportations like e-scoters, bicycles and public busses.

Action Plan How to implement the transit oriented development plan in the downtown of Amman? Plan

Action Adding a new articulated bus Network in the Downtown of Amman

Relieving the congestions in the downtown Redistributing of the mobility lines in Downtown of Amman

Regulate the streets policy Change the nature of some streets to be fully pedestrians

Results

Vision

Reducing the traffic in the Downtown

More Space for pedestrian network development

Connecting the Downtown with a strong transportation network

Enhancing accessibility with the government comprehensive transportation plan

Create an internal transportation network for the Downtown

Developing an identity of the Downtown

Making the streets more pedestrian and other light automobiles friendly

Performance Design after the implementation of the action plan: Our costumer arrives to the Downtown via any transportation method. He can use 1 of the 16 bus stops. The maximum waiting time for the bus is 4 min. The bus is equipped with a smart payment method (Magnetic card / Qr Code). He can pay using a 1 card that can be used in all the transportation network in Amman ( Big busses, articulated busses, Costars, service cars, etc). The card can be charged online or at the new Raghadan station. For tourists, they can by a transportation pass that allow them to access everything from tourists sties and transportations. In the end, the costumer can reach the BRT station or Old Raghadan Station where he can access different areas across Amman.

Street Section The street sections were redesigned by adding a special lane for an articulated bus and a path for bicycles, the sidewalks were redesigned to satisfy current needs. User Experience Finding your way: The locals now have less options to choose from the provided transportations and have different mode of traveling other than walking like e-scooter, bicycles and internal articulated buses. Reliability: People now have a clear schedule for the bus and its capacity and the expectancy rate for the service.

Articulated bus Network An internal transport network has been developed that connects the Jordan Museum bus station and the old Raghadan bus station with articulated bus with rapid frequency, which connects public transport complexes, commercial centers, and tourist and heritage areas. Transportation lines redestribution A redestribution for the existing transit netwrok was needed to let transportation line communicate with each other. This reduced the number of the lines in the site area from 90 line to only 4 while keeping in mind the user expereince and service quality for the locals.

4 transportation lines + the aticulated bus line

90 transportation lines

Travel distance was shortend by 33% for each transportation line which means 540 km on average. Gas emissions have been lowered by almost 84% too due to the articulated bus being an electrical bus

URBAN LIVIN Assim Albaw | Jovan

Project Description This was the main project i had during my Erasmus+ Program in Kragujevac, Serbia. It was a hybrid workshop by STRAND organization under a title “Urban Living room”. The main objective was to introduce new interactive elements in the public space to make feel at home in a public space. Concept To bring the history using a symbol from recyclable material that is so famuos in the city “Tires”.

NG ROOM

THE DOME

a Mogić-Sretenović | Katarina Todorović

The Dome During the advancement of Kragujevac city, the selected location had many buildings but eventually they got demolished. We wanted to bring a symbol that reminds people of the history of our location - we chose a Dome, similar to one that was once on top of one building many years ago. The dome symbolizes the connection between people. The circular design works around a center and then everything goes around it. We wanted a design that symbolizes the gathering of the people and that’s how we got to the concept of a dome out of tires. Red and a Tire There is a rapid growth of waste tires from different types of vehicles - which is bad for our planet. Wasted tires end up in communal areas. People don’t know what to do with them so we came up with an idea to use tires for the project Urban Living Room and include pedestrians in building the dome. The red color is the city color of Kragujevac. It symbolizes the industries in the city such as (Zastava Arms) and automobile (FCA Srbija) industries. These industries bloomed during Yugoslavia era.

Designing the performance The design consists of three stages. Every stage has a different sit of time and different results.

The first stage (The mystery of scattered tires) make people wonder – WHY? Why are the tires here? Why are they red? After observing people’s behavior, the next stage starts

The second stage (Hint of scattered tires) Problem solving A banner appears with all the instructions about the tires and what they can build with them in the site whcih says “Build something like this” and see what people can do; or we provide them

The third stage (The DOME) A Symbol we have two options: 1-To give people instructions and let them build the dome. 2-To build the dome ourselves without them expecting it. In the first option, we will provide people with instructions and needed materials. The duration of this stage could be 1-2 days. In the second option, we will build the dome around the time when there are less locals around the location and cause a surprised reaction.

SHADE, SHADOW AND PERSPECTIVE These are few of my archiectural art that shows strong skills such as understanding prespective, shades and shadows, reflection, scale, material, human expereince, optical illusion, colour usage, story telling, world building and graphical presentation techniques. The workflow consisted of 3 stages which are creating a concept for an existing image, manipulate it using perspective and shadow principles in autocad and then visualize it using photoshop.
