the ‘collage’ The site that I chosen is Setia City Mall that comes along with a park.

In the collage, the upper part is outdoor while bottom part is indoor. The two spaces is separated by a river (first axis) but connected by a bridge that joins with the tiles at the bottom (second axis).

Repetition of bubbles is used to represents happiness of children at the park whereas repetition of shopping bags represents happiness of adults in the mall.

Datum is shown by the elements (activities and facilities) in the park and the mall is arranged along the side of the second axis.

From

model in order to explore form manipulation in the form of drawings and models.

2D ARTWORK

2d artwork explanation There is two axis which cross each other right in front of the woven part.

1st axis - axis that join the circle and the building just like the bridge. 2nd axis - the axis in front of the woven part (the mall).

3D ARTWORK

3d artwork explanation Axis, repetition and datum that was shown in the 2d artwork is remained.

The prisms is raised higher than the circles to represents the mall is higher than the park.

Weaving of different colour stripes creates repetition of different sizes of prism. Different colour of prism at the weaving part are raised at different height according to the colour. The highest is yellow, second is green and the lowest is blue.

Each colour of prism represents different elements: Yellow - path/light Blue - water/activities in the mall Green - Grass/facilities in the mall

One faces of each yellow prism is covered with transparent plastic to represent openings and indicate light travels into the building through the openings.

The ‘Ada ‘Ad PRECEDENT STUDY

PRECEDENT STUDY To give overview of the project, I was required to propose one research of precedent study related

to

pod.

The

research

the

background,

functionality,

aesthetic,

anthropometry and practicability. I was required to express and communicate my analysis of this case study through a series of drawings, diagrams, sketches, and images.

Story Pod BACKGROUND STUDIO AKB, BASED IN TORONTO IN CANADA, HAD DESIGN A LITTLE OPEN LIBRARY FOR THE PEOPLE IN NEWMARKET. WHEN CLOSED, THE POD LOOKS LIKE A ORDINARY SMALL BLACK BOX, BUT WHEN THE DOORS ARE OPEN IT TURNS INTO SOMETHING FAR MORE INVITING. THE POD IS MEANT AS A PLACE TO EXCHANGE BOOK AS WELL AS A PLACE TO RELAX AND READ BOOKS. THE OPEN DOORS IMITATES AN OPEN BOOK AND ARE CLOSED AT NIGHT. THE WHOLE STRUCTURE RETRACTS INTO AN 8FOOT BY 8-FOOT BY 10-FOOT (2.4 METRES BY 2.4 METRES BY 3 METRES) VOLUME SO THAT IT CAN BE CLOSED AFTER DARK.

MATERIALITY THE POD IS DESIGNED BASED ON AKB EXPERIENCE DESIGNING A SKI CHALET WITH A TIGHT TIMEFRAME AND BUDGET, THUS IT IS MADE FROM LOCALLY SOURCED, STANDARD DIMENSIONAL LUMBER AT CANADA TO AVOID COST OVERRUN AND ENSURE THE POD IS FINISHED WITHIN THE RESTRICTED TIMEFRAME. THE PROJECT WAS PREFABRICATED OFFSITE IN THE NEWMARKET PUBLIC WORKS FACILITY, THEREBY MINIMIZING WASTE.

MY OPINION THE PROMINENT OF THE POD IS WHEN ITS COMPARED TO MOST OF THE OTHER PODS OUT THERE, WHICH CONSIST DIFFERENT SPACES IN A SMALL BOUNDARIES, THE POD STANDS OUT SERVING ONLY ONE SPACE, A LIBRARY WHILE WAS DONE IN A SMALL BOUNDARY BUT HAS AN OPEN-ENDED PARAMETERS WHICH INVITES PEOPLE TOWARDS ITSELF. AT THE MEANTIME, IT ENHANCE THE CITY WITH ITS SIMPLE YET AESTHETIC LOOKS. AT NIGHT, THE POD SHINES FROM THE INSIDE THROUGH THE VERTICAL CLADDINGS JUST LIKE THE LANTERN. MOREOVER, I THINK IT CLEARLY SHOWS HOW SMALL OFFICES CAN MAKE AN IMPACT TO A SOCIETY, AND SHOWS HOW LITTLE THINGS CAN SPARKLES UP A CITY.

3d artwork PARK

MALL

THE SITE THAT I CHOSEN IS A MALL THAT IS CURRENTLY UNDER EXPANSION AND IT COMES WITH A PARK. THUS, I COME OUT WITH AN IDEA OF MAKING A POD THAT IS MOVABLE BETWEEN TWO SPACES - IT CAN BE EITHER PLACED INDOOR OR OUTDOOR. MOREOVER, BECAUSE THE SITE CHOSEN IS A PROPERTY OF S P SETIA GROUP, THEREFORE THE POD IS ALSO A LIBRARY ON THE OUTSIDE TO ACT AS AN ATTRACTION SO THAT THEY OWNER OF THE MALL ALLOWS THE POD TO BE PLACED IN THEIR PROPERTY.
