KÄHLER DESIGN 2013
DANISH DESIGN SINCE 1839
Welcome to Kähler When glancing through this catalogue and the 2013 Kähler collection, you will see pure minimalistic lines as well as more wavy and organic shapes. You will find soft, delicate colours as well as clear, strong shades. It contains vases, bowls, candle holders, mugs, milk jugs, USB lockets, Christmas decorations, a piece of ceramic furniture and much more – all of which helps decorating and brightening our everyday life. 4
At Kähler Design we are very fond of the Nordic cultural heritage which is a natural inspiration, while the globalised society also broadens our minds and make us look beyond the North. We are constantly inspired by the people we meet, the journeys we take, the food we taste and the trends we spot. We soak up all the impressions we get and interpret them in our own way. Impressions and experiences are what constantly encourage us in the work we undertake within the elegant and colourful Kähler universe. We cooperate with a range of very talented and internationally recognised designers and ceramic artists, each letting us into the world as they see it and not least into their way of working with ceramics as an artistic material. As a design brand we are constantly evolving, developing and challenging the art of pottery in order for the new products to make sense in a complex modern world. Our collection reflects the world of today, where the diverse and complex melt together in new patterns and trends. We therefore hope that the Kähler collection will make you choose the products that will fit into your home and into your everyday life. Our ceramics are diverse products and a new setting only underlines their many possibilities. Once you put flowers into the vase or drink coffee from the mugs, the ceramics come alive and add a certain character to your home.

The Omaggio Home Collection is designed in a clean and elegant shape, where the characteristic hand-painted brushwork forms a contrast to the pure lines. The strong Danish ceramic tradition is carried on with the simple and classic design of the Omaggio Home Collection. K채hler in particular is known for this old tradition, and the Omaggio series is a way of showing classic ceramics in a contemporary light. With the Omaggio series, you may evoke a sense of timelessness in your home.
7
The wide brush strokes make you sense the designer who painted them you may follow the movements of the paint brush across the ceramics, and it shows the unbroken connection to design throughout the years. The collection is available in a sumptuous black-and-white version, but also in a number of delightful colours. The collection consists of vases, which are available in four sizes, including the beautiful floor vase, bowls in two sizes, the stylish plate and the classic candlestick, which comes in three sizes.

A special shopping experience
Kähler has presented art ceramics since 1839 – and our flagship store Kähler and friends was created as a room that tells the story of Kähler – then and now. Kähler has always taken pride in working with some of the greatest designers of the time. Previously, they included Thorvald Bindesbøll and Svend Hammershøi, today they include Louise Campbell and Michael Geertsen, among others. Throughout the years, Kähler has been a central part of Danish design tradition, and we are proud of that contribution. The history of Kähler lives on in every new, modern Kähler product that you see today. Kähler and friends M.P. Bruuns Gade 41 DK-8000 Aarhus C, Denmark Phone: (+45) 86 19 40 00

The Omaggio kitchen line is a stylish range made in a classic style that suits any kitchen. The stripes will brighten up your table, while the shapes will sustain the simple and elegant look you wish to create for most occasions. The pure colours can be combined in any way you wish, as the black stripe makes it a coherent line. The colours brighten up your everyday life and therefore the Omaggio line has the potential of becoming a modern classic. The Omaggio kitchen line consists of plates, thermo mugs, breakfast bowls and egg cups, which all come in six different colour combinations. You will also find a milk jug, a sugar bowl, a tea pot and a coffee pot, as well as a storage jar in one colour combination and two different sizes, and a water jug in three different colour combinations. For 2013, the Omaggio line has been further expanded and now also has a graphic and stylish touch, because the lids for the sugar bowl and the two storage jars have been produced in a beautiful Nordic type of wood. - All of the above mentioned products come with the classic and famous stripes, making all the colours and shapes into a coherent line.

NEW!
With the Ora clock hanging on your wall, you can enjoy the way the convex figures cast discreet shadows along the rim of the circle. The contrast between the ceramic material and the perspex that the hands are made of gives a modern edge to the simple wall clock. 34
35
The clean and modern style with no extraneous details makes Ora a both functional and stylish product. The purity that characterises the style blurs the traditional barrier between the masculine and the feminine. Ora has a sculptural touch that appeals to both genders, and the clock is not just a practical arrangement that tells time, it is an integrated part of the interior design of your home. Ora is available in seven different colours and comes in two sizes; Ă˜ 200 and Ă˜ 300.

LIMONE NEW!
DESIGN BRITT V. SCHMIDT
Kähler’s modern ceramic citrus press simply raises the esthetic level of the kitchen and brightens it up with its joyful colours. The functional grip and the graphic shape make the citrus press stand out and claim its rightful position on the kitchen table or in the fruit bowl. Limone is rarely hidden in the drawer after use but can simply be left on the kitchen table, as it looks very decorative on its own and brightens up any kitchen.
36
Limone is available in four bright colours: white, yellow, green and orange.

The beautiful shape of Limone naturally ressembles a peeled lemon with its characteristic segments. That is why the citrus press fits perfectly on the kitchen table or in the fruit bowl - smiling at the other citrus fruits. It fits perfectly into the hand and can be used for pressing citrus fruits of all sizes.

DESIGN METTE BACHE & BARBARA BENDIX BECKER
Among the new design items of the past fall, the big Botanica vases have attracted much publicity as well as appreciation from consumers. These otherwise voluminous vases now come in a joint package of miniature versions, which is in perfect keeping with the interior design trends of the new season.
38
39
There is a fine correlation between the enigmatic colour universe and the clear organic shape of the vases, which makes the little vases so decorative in a modern home. The matching glazes graciously accentuate the beauty of the ceramic material, which hereby makes an esthetic tableau. The simple colours and shapes add something raw and natural to the lovely line of miniature vases, and the result is an unconventional and authentic Nordic feel. The vases also come in a mixed pack.

The beautiful, voluminous Botanica vases of faience were designed for the modern home - a series of ceramics which appreciates the delicate balance between the functional aspect and the aesthetics of the wonderful world of ceramics. 40
The Botanica vases are available in a number of beautiful, but also mysterious and almost indefinable colours, and with regards to the wonderful colour universe Barbara Bendix Becker says: The colours we have worked with contain the diversity of all greys and thus the vases reflect the colours of the flowers you choose and in particular the room you place them in. As a practical detail, the vases are designed with grooves at the bottom which make it easy to arrange stems and twigs to your liking.

LOVE SONG DESIGN NORDENTOFT & RECKWEG
NEW!
Love Song is a unique line of stoneware vases, which serves as the perfect wedding present for design lovers. The beautiful vases are produced of raw and untreated stoneware, matching today’s design trends of natural materials perfectly. The stoneware vases are thematically interconnected, as they are decorated with the lyrics from three of the most iconic love songs of all times: “Love me Tender”, “All You Need is Love” and “It Had to be You”.
42
There is a certain dynamic between the warm and bright wording and the raw and natural material that instantly catches the eye. The rough surface contrasts perfectly with the transparent glaze on the inside and the vases decorate beautifully, both in a tableau or placed separately. Love Song comes with a glazed inner side in lime white or greyish blue.

Already at the entrance to a home, Kähler’s new line of beautiful house numbers, No., testifies to a modern home with an attention to detail. This cool and stylistic line of numbers and letters can also brighten up the indoor walls thanks to the raw, graphic look and the powerful colour palette.

The expression of refinement and high quality added by the ceramic material makes No. stand out from the more traditional house numbers. The beautiful and stylistic line of numbers and letters has a very unique typography designed exclusively for this line – one that will decorate and brighten up both indoor and outdoor. The numbers and letters are slightly distanced from the wall, adding a wonderful and lifelike shadow to the typography. The numbers and letters A, B and C come in white, yellow and grey.

MARMITTA DESIGN SĂ˜REN THYGESEN
Marmitta is a classic roaster in an elegant black design, where the top and bottom mirror each other. The roaster is an indispensable tool when cooking tasty dishes in the oven. 50
The lid will intensify and preserve the good taste in your food, and that makes Marmitta perfect for baking bread and slow simmer dishes. The porous structure of the clay and the lid effectively encapsulate the contents and seal in the heat, making the bread, meat or fish crispy and juicy at the same time. Marmitta allows you the luxury of cooking your meal over a long time, and thus you may spend the afternoon taking a walk in the woods or setting a beautiful table for your guests while the delightful smell fills the kitchen.

56
With Fiducia, the vase and candlestick have been rethought into a stylishly exciting and experimental design object, where the individual parts may be combined in many different ways by means of the magnets positioned on their small ‘arms’. The design is clean, simple and strong in its expression and fits perfectly in modern homes.
57
The Fiducia design is characterised by chubby and naivistic shapes, reminding you of charming tumblers. The playful expression makes Fiducia an eye candy, especially when you add a candle and flowers in season - place it on the window sill or include it in your special occasion table setting. Fiducia is the Italian word for trust – and this also characterises these vases and candlesticks: They belong together as a family and cannot stand alone. When standing on the table, they seem to almost hover because of the special design.

One object – multiple functions. This is the idea behind the Primavera series, which consists of beautiful, stylish leaf-bearing trees . When the vases are not full of flowers, you may turn them upside down and make the fine silhouettes of the trees stand out. They are either vases or small, sculptural objects, depending on which way they are turned. The form language focuses on rings in all four vases, which creates a connection between them, allowing them to be combined freely. The size of the trees matches the Avvento series, which was also designed by Marianne Nielsen, and when you combine the trees from the two series, you may create your own forest tableaus on your table or the window sill. The Primavera series comprises four leaf-bearing trees, each in a unique shade of green.

A bold mix of materials and function and a one of a kind on the market, which with its clear, Scandinavian style goes well with many different interior designs.
90
The ceramic furniture is a natural development in Kähler’s endeavours to challenge the ceramic material to find new applications and thus create surprising designs. For the first time, Kähler has created a piece of furniture – which is also a unique design object.

STORIES OF EVE
DESIGN LOUISE HINDSGAVL
STORIES OF EVE DESIGN LOUISE HINDSGAVL
A figure tradition dating back 100 years is resumed. For quite some time, we have focused on furniture and small interior items when investing in our home. But now, the urge to tell a personal story, including all the odd anecdotes, is felt within the four walls of our house. We have the energy to focus on things that have no practical use, but which satisfy our desire for decorative items, for provocative art, which puts new cultural radicalism back on the agenda. Historically, Kähler is known for its figures. And now, Kähler has teamed up with artist and ceramicist Louise Hindsgavl to carry this somewhat forgotten tradition into a new and modern era in a fine mix of contemporary trends and the always titillating provocations of the arts. Also, Kähler has a vision to make art accessible – and affordable.

The star shape makes Sirio perfect for Christmas, but the timeless and pure style makes it beautiful all year round. If you arrange more tea light holders in groups, you may create your own beautiful starry sky, which is a treat whether you place a tea light or delicacies for dinner in them. Sirio is available in two sizes: Ø140 and Ø155.

The Illumina candlestick is a new interpretation of the classic, Scandinavian chamber candlestick. The nostalgic recognition makes us feel secure, and this new version is made of glazed faience, which becomes it well. The simple shape and the soft colours breathe new life into the classic design. Because of its both classic and modern design, Illumina makes you sense how past and present come together in one and the same product. The fine art of transforming old design traditions into new products is a rare gift that we cherish at Kähler. Illumina is available in four colours: White, pale yellow, bluish grey and pale grey.

Christmas evokes the holiday decoration spirit in most of us, but there are exceptionally few ideas on how to hold onto your fascination with beautiful, stylish design when it comes to Christmas decorations. The Illumina candlesticks for advent and calendar candles do not compromise on aesthetics or the simple Scandinavian design. ”Actually, I am most interested in creating a canvas for people’s own creativity. I have contributed a surface and a candlestick, the rest is up to the user’s own imagination, interpretation and personality” - internationally acclaimed ceramicist Michael Geertsen and Kähler have created two candlesticks for taper candles and pillar candles, respectively, with a stylish, simple and Scandinavian look.

MODERNA DESIGN HELENA ROHNER
The Moderna series comprises four beautiful ceramic Christmas decorations – the snowflake, fir tree, bell and dove – which have been cut out of a paper-thin, ceramic sheet and glazed in soft colours with a coloured string as a stylish contrast. If you hang the decorations on a branch or your Christmas tree, the sky outside or part of your living room may be visible through the silhouette of the decoration. Thus, your world becomes a part of the motifs, and the emptiness and absence of material tell the story of your loved ones and your Christmas decorations.

In that way, classic Christmas decorations are interpreted through a modern art form and beautiful ceramic materials. The four Moderna decorations come in one package.

During this dark winter season you will discover that lighting up candles in the Urbania houses brings light and warmth to every corner of your home. The four beautiful Urbania houses have been designed with inspiration from traditional Christmas decorations and their simple and poetic look fits perfectly into the modern home. The expression is modern and also classic, as the village church symbolizes peacefulness to many people. This year, another small Urbania house has been added to the line, inspired by the most beautiful and well-preserved antique building of Rome, Pantheon.

AVVENTO DESIGN MARIANNE NIELSEN
The Avvento series, originally created in four green shades, is now available in soft, Nordic greys, which magically reflect the colours of the room. Combine the green and the grey candle holders and you will soon discover a beautiful forest of Nordic shades. 104
The four trees designed by Marianne Nielsen allow you to decorate your December home in the contemporary style and still hold onto the traditions and symbols of Christmas. The trees serve as candlesticks and may be placed separately or arranged in personal advent tableaux. Small ceramic pieces telling little stories that we take great pains to stage, whether we prefer a simple or a more decorative Christmas style.

CONO DESIGN MARIANNE NIELSEN
One of nature’s most beautiful and most popular decorative objects has been interpreted into a modern, stylished design, which with its warm colours and clear associations brings the magical universe of the forest into your home. 107
Materials such as wood and fur are among the hottest interior decoration trends today, and objects and colours reminiscent of nature are very popular. Thus, you can leave the beautiful Cono candlesticks on the table when you carefully put away the rest of the Christmas decorations. The four Cono candlesticks, each in a unique colour and simplified form – as candlesticks or design objects - will look great on any table or window sill at any season of the year.

The snow-white ceramic material that characterises Stella is beautifully lit by the tea lights and will become a sparkling element in your window that will bring joy and show your guests the way through the darkness of winter. The Stella tea light holders have a simple and timeless expression, which appeals to both young and old members of the family. Thus, Stella may become part of the family’s Christmas traditions that are passed on from generation to generation. The star is one of the eternal symbols of Christmas, classic and familiar. With the two beautiful Stella design objects - the tea light holder and the window ornament - we take the traditional Christmas star into a new age and into the modern and functional home.

Then and now
Kähler Design is a modern and innovative ceramic arts company with roots in traditional ceramic design. Every day we strive to combine our strong cultural heritage with the ambition to be market leader, both nationally and internationally. We take the very best from this artistic ceramic heritage and interpret it in a modern way. The result is new ceramic arts with a timeless appeal to a broad audience. 100 years ago, respected artists like Thorvald Bindesbøll, Svend Hammershøj and Kai Nielsen explored, challenged and shaped the amazing ceramics at Kähler. Today we see among others Louise Hindsgavl, Michael Geertsen and Jeanette List Amstrup carry on the tradition – with the ambition to bring art to the people.

He finds inspiration in the meeting between function and sculpture – and his work draws a clear line back to classic ceramics, but shapes and colours are used in such a way that the observer is challenged. 7 Jonas Trampedach Jonas Trampedach graduated as a designer from the Danish Design School in Copenhagen and the Royal College of Art in London. He has also worked as an international antiques dealer. In 2010, Jonas Trampedach set up his Copenhagen-based studio, primarily working in the fields of product and furniture design. She is known for her original Scandinavian design, which exquisitely reflects the fact that she draws inspiration from the shapes and forms of everyday life and adds her own unique style. Thora Finnsdottir was born in Iceland and she finds inspiration in the country’s magnificent contrasts – the meeting between nature and civilisation, old and new. Her designs are always based on existing everyday objects, and she plays with their form and structure until a new design emerges. 12 Inger Mehlum Inger Mehlum graduated as a ceramicist from the Designskolen Kolding in 1978. She has operated her own studio since 1989. Her work with the clay is wide-ranging – from the finest transparent porcelain clay that she uses for small series of articles for everyday use to large handmade pots made out of stoneware clay, which often get a sculptural expression and where form and texture play an important role. 13 Louise Hindsgavl Louise Hindsgavl has a degree from the Designskolen Kolding from 1999 with additional courses at the “School of Ceramics” in Portugal. Louise is one of the leading female ceramic artists of today, being especially famous for her provocative porcelain figurines. She wants to show the real world in harsh realism.
