“AS tax payers we have the right to know what’s going on at the Ga-Segonyana Municipality. We pay but the streets remain filthy. The sewerage keeps on flowing and our complaints keep falling on deaf ears. Streets are in complete darkness as many streetlights are not in working order.” These are some of the complaints of the AfriForum Kuruman branch manager, Louis Pieterse. He said that the lack of accountability can no longer be tolerated. AfriForum requested that the Ga-Segonyana Municipality be placed under administration and a commission of enquiry should be appointed. “The malpractice at our municipality should be investigated.” According to the Auditor-General (AG), Thembekile Kimi Makwetu, the annual financial statements of the Ga-Segonyana Municipality for 2013-’14 were of such a nature that even he wanted to withdraw. “The municipality could not present confirmative documentary evidence of its financial obligations or services contracts with the municipal and senior management,” he continued. He also said that illegal contracts were awarded while no redress was offered in instances where intemperate, irregular and unavailing expenses occurred. “Worst of all, the annual report for 2013-’14 did not even go public at the end of January 2015.” AfriForum is also drawing up a complaint of gross negligence of duty against the municipal manager, Edward Ntefang. ) David Mabudi, spokesperson of the Ga-Segonyana Municipality, said they were not aware of a request from AfriForum to put the municipality under administration.

Begroting lyk só Vrae oor hospitaal Ilse Watson HY rook nie, maar hy drink graag wyn of bier. Hy glo ook dat die tabak- en drankprysverhogings wat spruit uit die nuutste begroting, nie tot gevolg gaan hê dat mense enigsins hul gewoontes gaan verander nie. “Mense kan selde prioritiseer en hulle sal nog die ‘sonde-artikels’ koop eerder as om die noodsaaklike artikels aan te skaf,” sê Andries Visagie. José Farinha, inwoner van Kuruman, sê mense sal nie minder ry as brandstof duurder raak nie. Hy twyfel ook of hulle minder sal drink of rook. “Inteendeel, ek dink alles wat hulle normaalweg doen, gaan hulle net meer van doen.” Lynette Snyman sê dat sy maar hierdie bietjie ekstra betaal, al wurg dit die verbruiker. “As almal moet ophou rook en drink, hoeveel ekstra persoonlike belasting gaan ons dan nie betaal nie.” In Begroting 2015 is aangekondig die prys van sigarette (pakkie van 20) verhoog met 82 c. Wyn (’n 750 ml-bottel) word 15 c duurder en die belasting op bier (340 ml-blikkie) styg met 7c. Die nuwe koers waarteen rykes belas word, verskuif tot 41%. Elektrisiteit verhoog met 2 c/kWh. Die algemene brandstofheffing en die Padongelukheffing sal van 1 April onderskeidelik met 30,5 c per liter en 50 c per liter styg. Volgens die Suid-Afrikaanse Inkomstediens (SAID) is die begroting ’n finansiële weerspieëling van hoe ’n regering op sy samelewing se aspirasies reageer. Die 2015-begroting herbevestig dat die regering daartoe verbind is om die lewe van armes te verbeter. Suid-Afrika beleef trae ekonomiese groei en toenemende staatskuld. Die ekonomie sal in 2015 met slegs 2% groei en teen 2017 sal dit swak bly en net met 3% groei. Skole se infrastruktuur moet herstel word sodat leerlinge gehaltediens kan kry. Geld moet ook aan die instandhouding en opknapping van gesondheidsgeriewe bestee word. Persoonlike belasting, inkomstebelasting, korporatiewe inkomstebelasting, BTW,
brandstofheffings en ander belastings stel die regering in staat om die nodige geld te verkry om sodoende die nodige dienste aan Suid-Afrikaners te lewer. Die totale onderwysbegroting word in 2015 met 8% verhoog. Dit moet gebruik word om die infrastruktuur van 510 skole te vervang en ook om water aan 1 120 skole te verskaf. Sanitasie aan 741 skole en elektrisiteit aan 916 skole moet ook verbeter en opgeknap word. Daar sal ook geld beskikbaar gestel word om onderwysers op te lei. Vir die boere lyk dinge ook nie te goed nie. Die regering gaan die voorstel om 50% van plase aan die plaaswerkers oor te dra ondersoek. Met die 2015-begroting het boere se oë ook gerek toe hulle gehoor het hulle mag net 12 000 ha grond (of twee plase) besit. Volgens Hannes Möller, president van AgriSA, is hul grondhervormingsplanne in 2014 met groot lof ontvang. “Ons het tot Maart die kans gehad om met voorstelle en idees te kom. Omdat die tydraamwerk vir ons voorstelle die hele tyd geskuif word, is dit duidelik dat ’n mens nie die regering kan vertrou nie,” het hy gesê. Henning Myburgh, hoofbestuurder van Agri Noord-Kaap, het gesê dat hulle ’n baie goeie grondhervormingsplan in 2014 ontwikkel het. “Ná die afgelope uitsprake van die president heers daar groot verwarring oor watter rigting die regering nou eintlik wil inslaan. “Wat betref die aankondiging dat plase 50/50 verdeel gaan word tussen die boer en sy plaaswerkers, kan ek nou vir jou sê die boere sal dit glad nie aanvaar nie.” Voorts het Myburgh gesê dat so ’n plan prakties net nie moontlik is nie. “As ’n boer ’n verband van R2 miljoen op sy plaas het en dit word verdeel, hoe gaan die ander party daardie R1 miljoen betaal?” En daar is natuurlik die steierende kragverskaffer Eskom wat nog ’n groot invloed op die 2015-begroting het. Hy kry sy eerste nuwe reddingsboei van die staat wanneer R10 miljard in Junie aan hom gegee word. Sonkragaanlegte word in die Karoo en die Noord-Kaap opgerig en dit sal ’n groot verligting tot kragverskaffing meebring.
Ilse Watson DIE DA wil binnekort geskrewe vrae aan die provinsiale gesondheidsdepartement stuur oor die herstel- en opknappingswerk wat tans by die Kurumanhospitaal geskied. “Ons wil die koste van die herstelwerk bepaal en vasstel of die korrekte prosedures in die aanstel van diensverskaffers gevolg is,” het Harold McGluwa, die DA se provinsiale voorsitter, gesê. Volgens ’n nuusverklaring van Lulu Mxekezo, woordvoerder van die department van gesondheid, is ’n bedrag van R3 miljoen bewillig vir die werk wat aan die hospitaal gedoen moet word. “Ons het meer duidelikheid nodig oor die prosesse wat gevolg is. Ons is ook besorg oor ’n skynbare gebrek aan kommunikasie tussen die provinsiale gesondheidsdepartement en die hospitaalbestuurder,” het McGluwa gesê. Volgens die uitvoerende hoof van die hospitaal, Agnes Sesing, sou die hospitaal op 20 Februarie open.

DIE 14-jarige Jemima van Schalkwyk, ’n gr. 9-leerling aan die Hoërskool Kalahari, het op die onlangse Suid-Afrikaanse kampioenskappe in Kaapstad vyf medaljes in karate verwerf. Sy het twee goue medaljes vir puntegeveg en aaneenlopende geveg verwerf, asook drie bronsmedaljes in tradisionele kata, wapenskata en kumite. Dié jong karateka het groot drome vir haar karate. Sy het op sesjarige ouderdom met karate begin en beoefen dit al nege jaar lank. Jemima sien uit na wat vir haar voorlê. Kalahari Bulletin het met haar gesels. Wat is jou drome vir die toekoms? Ek wil ’n wêreldkampioen in karate word en op wêreldwye toere te gaan. Dit is die dryfveer agter my karateloopbaan. My leermeester, shihan Pieter Pretorius, inspireer my. Ek droom ook daarvan om eendag my eie karateklub vir vroue te stig. Met dié klub wil ek poog om vroue deur dié sport te bemagtig ten einde hulleself te kan beskerm wanneer hulle in lewensgevaarlike situasies beland.

boek. Die laaste boek wat ek verslind het, was Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Ek kyk ook baie sport op televisie en is versot op rugby, sokker, atletiek en gholf.

Find better role models
THE citizens of South Africa have weathered many storms during the past 22 years of democracy. South Africans of all races and creeds had survived and even thrived, in spite of adversities. Unfortunately, the current political climate, educational shortcomings and unemployment among others contribute to a general moral degeneration of the South African society. One of the main influences of a country’s moral values start at the leaders. It is unfortunate that some of South Africa’s top politicians are clouded in controversy. It is near impossible for South African citizens to trust and follow leaders that are constantly being accused of corruption and even criminal activities. The public puts its trust in these leaders to make responsible decisions on behalf of the people and remain honest in their duties. Unfortunately, one only has to listen to news reports to see that corruption, nepotism and incompetence are rife in leadership circles. When a tax payer pays his or her taxes, it is generally understood that this money will be used for the right purposes. In theory, tax money should be allocated for social grants, education, hospitals,
roads, the supply of power and water and to ensure the personal security of citizens. This is unfortunately not always the case. Corruption and bad management practices eat into the nation’s wealth, channelling money away from such projects and the very people most dependent on government for support. These unsavoury practices filter down to provincial and municipal management. Towns and adjoining townships suffer under poor service delivery. This leads to violent protests where property gets damaged and lives are lost. Situations like these are a direct result of a lack of moral obligation that elected officials should maintain in their duties. The solution to this sad state of affairs must in part come from grassroots level. Parents, teachers and spiritual leaders must condemn corruption and dishonesty and set a better example. If the country’s political leaders continue to immerse themselves in corruption and disregard the country’s laws, it may be time to find different role models and elect better leaders. Citizens should rise above political and government incompetence and embrace the true spirit of ubuntu.

Chris van Staden AND he saith unto them, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. – Mat 4:19 (KJV) For me, following Jesus is one of the greatest things in the Bible. If we look at this scripture in detail it says far more than just reading the phrase. What it tells me, is that no one is left behind. The disciples came from all walks of life. Following Jesus is for everyone, but it forces us to confront certain things in life. God knows the roads we must take, but to be able to change we need to walk with Jesus. Change will only happen through a personal relationship between you and Him. Knowing Him and walking with Jesus truly transforms you. But here’s the secret. It must be personal and it must be often. The invitation is based on willingness to follow. It’s not a kidnapping situation. We get many invitations in life. Someone can invite you for a cup of coffee. Invitations can also come on social media. These you can say no to, answer later, or ignore. There are also formal invitations to events that require you to do planning, like with a wedding.
You also get real life-changing invitations where, say, someone of a big company takes you to dinner and offers you a once-in-a-lifetime invitation to work for the company, with extraordinary benefits. You do not ignore those kinds of invitations, you grab hold of it. You take note and you respond to it. When you become used to invitations, you tend to treat invitations from Jesus with the same disregard as worldly ones. You could easily think, oh, its just another thing from Jesus. Invitations from Jesus require that we pay attention – these will change our life in extraordinary ways. Maybe you were saved some 30 years ago and are serving God, but He is now inviting you to have a deeper commitment. He is saying: “Follow me, I have something deeper to share with you.” To walk with Him means to experience life with Him. Life with Jesus is not just following, but really sharing life with Him.

Sege bly maar lekker Lizette Slabber EK weet nie veel van sport af nie en ek sal my nooit as ’n sportkenner beskryf nie. Ek kyk net rugby as die Sharks of die Springbokke speel en op die vraag watter posisie my seuntjie speel, moes ek antwoord: “Hy druk in die skrum. Hy is die middelste outjie in die voorste ry.” Ek het geen idee wat ’n mens daardie posisie noem nie. Van al die bietjie sport wat ek kyk, is krieket die een waarvoor ek die liefste is. Dit is die een sport waarvan ek die meeste reëls ken en die beste verstaan. Hoewel dit my lank geneem het om die begrip van partnership onder die knie te kry. Ek het gedink die spelers spreek voor die wedstryd af wie mekaar se partners gaan wees. Ek moet erken ek was darem

In Rapport van 1 Maart het Eduan Roos ’n ope brief aan Martin Crowe geskryf ná sy brief aan die Proteas. In dié brief skryf Roos dat Suid-Afrikaners dit haat om te verloor, maar nooit die Proteas sal afskryf nie. Ek dink dié standpunt kan baie wyer as net die Proteas getrek word. Ons kan dalk kerm en teem n elke nederlaag, maar ons sal altyd bankvas agter ons nasionale spanne staan.

Vrydag se wedstryd teen Wes-Indië was toonkrul-lekker en het my dadelik van die nederlaag vroeër die week laat vergeet. Die Bafana Bafana-oorwinning teen Frankryk in die 2010-Wêreldbeker was net so ongelooflik lekker en het in alle opsigte vergoed vir die feit dat ons nie een van die finaliste was nie. Dit is op die ou end al die wenwedstryde wat onthou word en nie die verloorwedstryde nie. Maar ek moet erken. Ek sal mal wees daaroor as ons vanjaar die Wêreldbekers in die krieket en rugby kan wen, want wen bly darem maar lekker en dit sal statistiekgewys só mooi lyk. Met AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis en die ander kan die krieket dalk in die sak wees. Al wat die rugbykeurders nou net moet doen, is om die Sharkies almal Bokke te maak.

Leer is lekker, natuurlik DIE toerisme- en bemarkingstudente aan die Vaal-Universiteit vir Tegnologie (VUT) se Upington-kampus is met ’n reeks lesings by die African Vineyard-gasteplaas op Kanoneiland bederf. Formele onderrig is vir een oggend van die VUT-klaskamers na die gasteplaas se koel tuine verplaas. Moderne onderrigteorie stel voor dat die leerproses meer suksesvol in ’n ontspanne atmosfeer plaasvind. Daarom is lesings langs ’n swembad, by ’n rivierstroom en langs ’n natuurlike waterdammetjie onder koeltebome aangebied. Eerstejaarstudente in toerismebestuur het hul weeklikse klastoets met die kalmerende klank van water afgelê en derdejaarstudente se lesing oor volhoubare en verantwoordelike ontwikkeling is bekragtig in die tuin
van dié gastehuis, wat hom op die beginsels van verantwoordelike ontwikkeling – soos maatskaplike opheffing, omgewingsbewaring en kruissektorale verbintenisse met plaaslike entrepreneurs – toelê. Terwyl studente by ’n teetafel aangesit het, het hulle ’n kort lesing oor die gebruik van vars kruie ontvang. Behalwe dat hulle met die gastehuis en sy omgewing beïndruk was, is die lesing oor onthaaletiket en die dek van ’n formele tafel deur Erica Strauss, asook ’n wynproe van plaaslike wyne deur Dr. Elmarie De Bruin, as hoogtepunte uitgewys. Die oggend is langs ’n vleisbraaivuur op die rivieroewer afgesluit. Dosente wat die uitstappie meegemaak het, is De Bruin (bemarkingsbestuur), Lisa Engels (personeelbestuur) en Strauss (toerismebestuur).

VLV-konferensie in sig Ilse Watson OP ’n onlangse vergadering van die Kuruman-tak van die VroueLandbouvereniging (VLV), het Eon de Klerk van die Tuinhuis-kwekery ’n praatjie oor die mooiste voëls in Suid-Afrika aangebied, met spesiale verwysing na dié wat in die Kalahari-streek voorkom. Die voëls se eetgewoontes en soorte neste is bespreek en lede is aangemoedig om selfvoerders en waterbaddens in hul tuin aan te bring. Volgens De Klerk is die belangrikste dat voëls veilig moet voel en nie maklike prooi vir katte en roofvoëls moet word nie. De Klerk het gewaarsku teen die

blindelingse aanskaffing van byvoorbeeld sekere soorte papegaaie, wat ’n mens kan oorleef en in ’n testament bemaak moet word. Dit is ’n groot verantwoordelikheid om so ’n voël korrek te versorg en genoeg aandag te gee. Die Kuruman-tak het ook besoek van die sirkelpresident, Carien van den Berg van Reivillo, ontvang. Van den Berg het die lede gemotiveer om altyd positief te bly en het ook haar waardering uitgespreek teenoor die Kurumantak, wat die grootste tak in die Kalahari-sirkel is. Magdeleen de Klerk het ’n demonstrasie gelewer van hoe jy jou eie kerse kan maak en veral die jonger lede het belangstelling
hierin getoon. Bloedrooi kerse is gemaak om by die Valentynstema in te skakel. Die meeste lede was ook dié dag in rooi uitgevat. Daar word nou hard gewerk vir die konferensie wat aanstaande week in Kuruman plaasvind. Tussen 60 en 80 mense word verwag. Onder die sprekers wat gaan optree is JJ van Rensburg van Garden World, wat ’n tuinboupraatjie sal lewer, en Martin Austin van Hertex Fabrix. Yolandi Strydom, lewensafrigter van Kuruman, gaan met die vroue haar idees oor die tema Vroue met visie deel. Uitstallings van bonsaiboompies, skilderye en ’n kinderklerereeks word verwag.

DIE motiveringspreker Elsabé Aldrich het die Hoërskool Duineveld van 23 tot 27 Februarie besoek. Leerlinge van gr. 8 tot gr. 12 het haar kortkursus Triomfantlike Tiener bygewoon. Leerlinge het saam met haar ’n tydjie afgeknyp om oor tienerwees na te dink. Met haar onblusbare geesdrif, humor en woordvaardigheid het Aldrich haar lewenskennis en -insig aan die tieners oorgedra én die tienergehoor aan haar voete gehad. Sy beskou haarself as ’n “pretprater” eerder as ’n motiveringspreker en begelei reeds die afgelope 17 jaar gehore (volwassenes en tieners) in lewensvaardigheid. Dit is egter veral tieners wat haar na aan die hart lê. Met kwinkslae, gevatte sêgoed, deernisvolle vertellings, verhale uit die werklikheid en grappe laat sy blyk: Tieners is haar passie. Elke graadgroep het deur gonsgroepe en prettige aktiwiteite geleer: ) elkeen het reeds eiewaarde; ) jou drome en jou bestemming is die fokus;
) jy is self verantwoordelik vir balans en tydbestuur, dissipline en ontspanning in jou lewe – met ander woorde, bestuur jou lewe; ) jy kan verander; ) emosionele intelligensie is belangrik; ) die seksuele is jou verantwoordelikheid; en ) interpersoonlike verhoudinge behoort positief bestuur te word. Só word liefdesdag gevier DIE Laerskool Sentraal in Kakamas (LSK) het besluit om vanjaar eerder Valentynsdag op 20 Februarie te vier. Hoewel die regte Valentynsdag al ’n week vantevore plaasgevind het, het dit geensins ’n demper op die verrigtinge geplaas nie. Al die leerlinge kon verspot aantrek en daar is selfs ’n kompetisie tussen die klasse gehou om te sien watter klas die verspotste aangetrek is. Die gr. 5-klas is as die Valentynswenners aangewys. Dié innoverende klas het besluit om almal dieselfde aan te trek om só vir die hele skool te wys hoe pelle moet saamstaan. Die aweregse Valentynsdag is met ’n heerlike fliek- en sokkieaand afgesluit.

They also learnt life skills and had to complete a brain profile. Francis Wernich, a participant in the course, said it was an experience of a lifetime. “It was an eye opener for me. I lost myself somewhere along the road and now I’m back on track. “Through this programme I got my confidence back. I opened myself for this course. I really wanted to learn more about myself,” she said. “During the course I realised where my shortcomings were and I realised that there is still plenty of room for growth.” Wernich concluded in saying that everything she wanted to achieve was given to God. Col. Kenny Baloyi, station commander of the Kuruman police, is committed to the upliftment of his staff as he feels that everybody can be the best person they want to be. Tshidiso Seikaneng (SED manager: Assmang Khumani mine) said this program
was aimed at fixing the problem. “We are very proud to be part of this amazing four-day course. We are committed to community development.” Wilna Engelbrecht (Let’s Go facilitator)
said the program had been very successful. “The group was very motivated to participate and improve themselves. They are ready to bring about a positive change in their communities.”

A large group of people recently participated in a four-day learning experience where they went on an exciting journey of self-discovery to master self-development with new skills and to understand their individualism. Forty community members and 20 South African police members in Kuruman were very proud to receive their certificates of participation on Thursday (26/02). The programme, sponsored by Assmang Khumani mine, entails the developing of skills to know and understand yourself better, to develop a personal brand and to develop personal leadership as a life skill. Participants learned of this using exciting discovery tools, creative designs, fun activities and colourful material.

PUTSONDERWATER, Sydney-onVaal en Draghoender het lankal nie meer inwoners nie, maar dié dorpe is onder die 235 NoordKaapse dorpe wat in ’n nuwe boek in woord en beeld beskryf word. Die boek, Noord-Kaapse Dorpe, is uitgereik deur dr. Jan van der Merwe van Bloemfontein, wat vroeër ’n soortgelyke boek oor die Vrystaat gepubliseer het. ’n Paar ander spookdorpe in die provinsie is Bowesdorp, Burgerville, Koegas, Volop en Wallekraal. Die boek van 760 bladsye bevat die verhaal van elke dorp, van Kimberley tot die kleinste en mees afgeleë gehuggie, saam met ’n verskeidenheid foto’s. Staaltjies oor die dorpe word ook vertel. Van der Merwe sê die idee vir die boek het juis ontstaan toe hy in 2012 die boek oor die 86 dorpe in die Vrystaat uitgereik het. Altesame 235 dorpe en plekke se geskiedenis word in die boek vertel. Hiervan het 104 munisipale status verwerf. Nog twee, Zwartkops en Lanyon, het munisipale status gekry, maar het nooit tot volwaardige dorpe ontwikkel nie. ’n Klompie spookdorpe word ook bespreek. Hy en Philipe Burger, wat heelwat van die foto’s in die boek geneem het, het meer as 15 000 km gery en tussen hulle meer as 150 000 foto’s geneem. Van der

Smul aan dié lekkernye AARTAPPELSOP met spek en preie Net een happie van dié romerige sop sal jou binne minute van binne warm maak. Genoeg vir 6 tot 8 mense. 45 g (50 ml) botter 3 preie, gesny 250 g spek, grofgekap 2 knoffelhuisies, fyngekap 4 aartappels, geskil en in klein blokkies gesny 700 ml hoenderaftreksel 125 ml room sout en varsgemaalde swartpeper na smaak Smelt die botter in ’n kastrol. Voeg preie, spek en knoffel by. Maak kastrol toe en kookbraai vir 15 minute tot sag. Roer so elke nou en dan. Voeg die aartappels en aftreksel by. Bring tot kookpunt en laat prut vir sowat 20 minute. Laat afkoel en gooi die mengsel in ’n voedselverwerker. Pols tot gladde puree. Gooi mengsel terug in kastrol en voeg room by. Bring tot kookpunt en geur met sout en swartpeper. Sit voor met ekstra brosgebraaide spek. Uie-en-kaasbrood Jy kan die brood in ’n ringkoekpan of in ’n oondvaste pot bak. Genoeg vir 6 tot 8 mense. Koekmeel vir uitrol 1 x 500 g-sakkie winkeldeeg 125 g beleë cheddarkaas, gerasper 4 klein rooi-uie, geskil en in kwarte gesny 45 ml olyfolie growwe seesout Verhit oond tot 220 °C. Sprinkel dun lagie koekmeel op werkvlak en keer deeg daarop uit. Druk die deeg met jou hande plat tot sowat 1 cm dik. Sprinkel 2/3 van kaas oor deeg. Rol deeg op in stywe wors. Spuit ’n 30 cm-ringkoekpan of oondvaste gietysterpot met kleefwerende kossproei. Plaas deeg in rondte in koekpan.
HEERLIKE aartappelsop met spek en preie.
MAKLIKE uie-en-kaasbrood.
Pak uikwarte bo-op en druk effens in die deeg in. Sprinkel oorblywende kaas, olyfolie en sout oor. Laat rys vir 10 minute. Plaas in warm oond en bak vir 25 tot 30 minute of tot goudbruin en bros. Laat effens afkoel en keer uit. Sit louwarm voor met regte botter.
Plaas sjokolade en botter in ’n glasbak wat op die kastrol sal pas. Skakel plaat af en sit bak oor die kookwater (die water moenie aan die bak raak nie). Roer elke nou en dan totdat die sjokolade en botter gesmelt het. (Of smelt dit 3 minute in die mikrogolfoond, op hoog gestel.) Klits eiers, eiergele en strooisuiker met ’n elektriese klitser tot lig van kleur. Klits die sjokolade-bottermengsel by. Sif meel en vou versigtig in mengsel in. Verdeel tussen bakkies en bak 10 tot 12 minute tot gerys. (Verkieslik 10 minute, want dit moet nog plat bo-op wees en nie heeltemal gestol nie. As dit bo-op bars, sal daar nie so baie van die sagte binnekant wees om uit te loop nie.) Sit dadelik voor saam met room en roomys. ) Resepte met erkenning aan Sarie.
Sjokoladefondant Hierdie lekkerte is soos ’n looppoeding, maar jy sit dit voor in ’n bakkie met roomys en room. Die resep is genoeg vir 4 mense. ) 140 g 70%-donkersjokolade, grofgekap ) 140 g (150 ml) ongesoute botter ) 3 eiers ) 3 eiergele ) 85 g (100 ml) strooisuiker ) 45 g (80 ml) koekmeel Voorverhit oond tot 180 °C. Smeer ses bakkies met botter en sit dit op ’n bakplaat. Bring water tot kookpunt in ’n kastrol.

RENOVATIONS at the Kuruman Hospital commenced on 1 January. Although it was expected that the renovations would only be completed at the end of March, certain areas of the hospital re-opened on 23 February. Due to the fact that the clinical sections have been completed and are fully operational, patients who were moved to the Tshwaragano Hospital (near Bathlaros) when renovations started, were moved back on 23 February. The non-clinical areas re-opened at the end of February as scheduled. All the work that was planned for the current financial year will be completed at the

end of March. Certain sections of the Kuruman Hospital were closed after human blood was found flowing from the mortuary. Decomposed bodies were found to be the source of the blood. “The health personnel employed at the facility are doing their best to provide quality health services for the community and there is appreciation for the work done by the team that joined the hospital as community service workers at the beginning of the year,” said Lulu Mxekezo, spokesperson for the Northern Cape Department of Health. She said that the current staff consists of five nurses, two pharmacists, one radiographer, one dietician and one physiotherapist.

“The mortuary is functional but since 10 December 2014, no autopsies have been performed there because of challenges with the drainage system. These are still being addressed,” she said. Mxekezo said the hospital manager, Agnes Sesing, was a qualified professional who has been appointed as such. “The hospital never collapsed as reported in various newspapers. “Renovations were planned last year and that is what is happening now.” Currently there are four ambulances per shift and they are servicing the area. Renovations at the Kuruman Hospital are continuing.

Die kriteria is: interne impak (die verskil wat die persoon maak wat betref die belange en/of omstandighede van mense of die natuurlike omgewing in die NoordKaap), persoonlike opoffering/prestasie (die mate waartoe die persoon sy of haar private tyd opoffer), eksterne impak (die bydrae wat die persoon lewer om die Noord-Kaap se aansien en/of beeld na buite te bou en te bevorder). Enige verdienstelike Noord-Kaapse instansie wat nie ’n winsmotief het nie, mag benoem word as instansie van die jaar. Instansies met ’n sterk politieke verbintenis mag nie benoem word nie. Die werk wat gedoen word, moet ’n positiewe impak op die mense of natuur van die provinsie hê.

NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR WASTE MANAGEMENT LICENCES IN TERMS OF THE NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT: WASTE ACT (59 OF 2008) FOR THE POSTMASBURG LANDFILL SITE The Tsantsabane Local Municipality has proposed the development of a new Class B Landfill Site for the town of Postmasburg, Northern Cape. The intention is to provide a purpose-built landfill facility for the final disposal of general waste that complies with the national norms and standards. The current disposal site for Postmasburg (known as Boichoko), has been identified as fatally flawed by the Department of Water and Sanitation and will therefore be closed in accordance with the legislative requirements subsequent to the development of the new Landfill Site. The new Postmasburg Landfill Site will be located on municipal-owned land. Three candidate sites have been identified and will be subject to a scoping-level assessment. The candidate sites are: Ÿ Site C - located approximately 5 km east of Postmasburg, adjacent to and north of the R385. Ÿ Site E - positioned approximately 6 km east of Postmasburg, adjacent to and south of the R385. Ÿ Site X - approximately 3 km south-east of Postmasburg, near to the existing sewage works. Based on the scoping outcome, a final preferred site will be subject to detailed investigations during the environmental impact assessment phase. Several activities for the proposed Postmasburg Class B Landfill Site and closure of the Boichoko Site will require authorisation/licensing under legislation administered by different competent authorities. Drinking water quality performance is established on an annual basis indica ng compliance (as a percentage) to each requirement listed in the drinking water standard SANS 241. Perform well at athletics meeting ATHLETES of the Kuruman Primary School obtained first and second positions at the John Taolo Gaetsewe District athletics meeting. Jové van Zyl set a new record of 9,86 m in the shot put for girls u.13 and she obtained the first position in her three items (shot put, javelin and discus). At the Ga-Segonyana East athletics meeting held previously she also set a new record of 10,02 m in the shot put. Poloko Khoana, who also participated in the Ga-Segonyana East meeting, set a new record of 12,43 seconds in the 80 m hurdles for boys u.13. These nine athletes will represent the JTG District at the Northern Cape provincial athletics championship in Kimberley, which will be held on Saturday (07/03). Gholfspeler (12) op groot verhoog Benneli Olivier Van der Walt RÉMON RABIE (12) is werklik een van Kathu se blink sportsterre. Dié gr. 7-leerling van die Curro-Kathuskool gaan van 10 tot 12 Maart aan die internasionale Suid-Afrikaanse junior toernooi (SAJI) vir 2015 deelneem. Hy het ’n gholfstudiebeurs by die Curro-Kathu-skool gekry en maak beslis die beste van die geleentheid. Rémon speel omtrent sy hele lewe lank gholf. “Ek het saam met my pa (Rias Rabie) begin speel en vinnig agtergekom dat ek mal oor gholf is.” Hy en sy pa speel steeds saam by die Kalahari-buiteklub (KCC) in Kathu gholf. “Dit is ook ’n sport wat ek saam met my pa oor ’n naweek kan speel en dit maak dit vir my spesiaal.” Rabie het in 2009 op sewejarige ouderdom ernstig begin gholf speel. Hy oefen vier tot vyf dae ’n week as dit moontlik is. Tussen die oefening deur maak hy nog tyd vir krieket, huiswerk en ’n sosiale lewe ook. Rémon is die jongste gholfspeler wat vanjaar aan die SAJI-toernooi gaan deelneem. “Die meeste van my teenstanders is o.18- of o.19-spelers, maar dit skrik my nie af nie,” sê hy. Hy is nie senuweeagtig oor die
toernooi nie. “Ek is darem al teen die tyd die druk en stres gewoond. Dié toernooi is niks teen die druk van die wêreldkampioenskapstoernooi nie.” Hy en sy ouers vertrek op Saterdag 7 Maart na die Durbanville-gholfbaan in die Kaap. Tussen sy oefening vir die toernooi deur, skryf hy ook sy kwartaaleksamens vroeër. Die Curro-Kathu-skool staan bankvas agter Rémon. “Die skool ondersteun ons 120% en ons waardeer dit geweldig,” sê Rebecca Rabie, Rémon se trotse ma. Rémon bedank graag sy ouers en suster, Vernique (19), vir hul ondersteuning. “My ouers, en spesifiek my pa, maak altyd tyd vir my. Hulle probeer hul bes en ry my altyd na my toernooie toe aan.” Die SAJI-toernooi is vol uitdagings en geleenthede vir die jong Rémon. Dit bied die geleentheid vir internasionale promotors en universiteite om spelers vir hul instellings te werf. Dit is die grootste internasionale geleentheid wat nog vir junior gholfspelers in Suid-Afrika gehou is. Volgens Eddie Conradie, bedryfshoof van die Curro-Kathu-skool, is die skool se betrokkenheid by gholf nie slegs om kampioene te lewer nie, maar om ook junior spelers die kans te bied om goeie, afgeronde leiers en studente te word, of dit nou op of van die gholfbaan is.
