FAVORITES My favorite layering piece pie iece ce is a thin flannel button-down. own. ow wn n I can wear it like a normal mall ma shirt during the day, ass a thin jacket over a dress tied ied ie ed up like cowgirl, and if I’m Im going out and want to play down the fanciness of my evening dress, I throw the flannel around my waist for a stylish nonchalant Mary-Kate Olsen-inspired look.

CHECK OUT MORE ON ALOHANIGHTS.COM

Swap flannel for a denim jacket, thin chambray buttondown or a vest. These are great substitutes because they also allow for optimum wear and recycled use, which is green. Also, don’t forget to stack your bracelets and rings. So get out there and layer up!

For the late-night fashionista, it is important for you to pair functionality with effortless suave.

& & &

Every girl needs a pair of Chuck Taylors in her closet. Not only are they comfortable, but these high tops can be paired with almost anything. Black is a classic color, but if you are feeling out there, you can always get them in a fun color or pattern to spice up your outfit. Pairing them with a dress adds class without looking like you’re trying too hard. Pairing them with a cross-body bag makes the outfit fluid and adds a touch of girliness to the overall look.

SHORT BOOTS

THICK-HEELED BOOTS

Short boots are good for the girl who wants a little added flair and height without the commitment of heels. These brown boots are great with jeans and a loose fitting tank. Pair these with a drop bag – this cream quilted one looks small but has plenty of room for all your late-night needs. Don’t worry about your bag and shoes not being the same color. As long as they have the same hardware (gold with gold, silver with silver, etc.), the look will be cohesive.

Thick-heeled boots are perfect for any girl who wants to be on her feet all night without feeling the need to rip them off midway through because of the unbearable pain of stilettos. These grey suede boots are super comfy and still look amazing. You can pair them with tight pants or a dress, making them perfect for any wardrobe. When going out in heels, make sure your bag doesn’t overpower them. Small statement bags only carry the necessities but are perfect for a night when you’re just going out with the girls.

Sometimes a night out turns into an early-morning party. Unfortunately, some bars close much earlier than others, and all too often it seems as though the party is just getting started when the lights turn on and security starts yelling for everyone to clear out. Here is a guide to continuing the party until the sun comes up. Start the night wherever: a house party, a bar, a restaurant – it doesn’t matter. Most bars are open earlier in the night, so there are endless pre-game locations to choose from. The first places to close usually do so around midnight. This is when a change of scenery is necessary.

Take the party to Tiki’s Grill and Bar or Jimmy Buffett’s at the Beachcomber, both located in Waikiki and open until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Tiki’s is directly across from the beach and open railings allow one to witness the bustling Waikiki from a distance. This is a prime time for munchies and Jimmy Buffett’s even has a late-night happy hour (10 p.m. to close) that includes appetizer specials. Jimmy Buffett’s usually has live music, a laid-back second step in a long night of bar-hopping.

TIKI’S GRILL AND BAR 2570 Kalakaua Ave. 808-923-8454 Open till 1 a.m. daily

After refueling, continue along Kalakaua to Five-O Bar & Lounge, on the second floor of the Royal Hawaiian Center, or LuLu’s Waikiki, open until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Five-O has shareable beer towers and balcony seating to people watch from above.

JIMMY BUFFETT’S AT THE BEACHCOMBER 2300 Kalakaua Ave. 808-791-1200 Open until 1 a.m. on Fri, Sat

LULU’S WAIKIKI 2586 Kalakaua Ave. 808-926-5222 Open until 2 a.m.

DUKE’S WAIKIKI & BAREFOOT BAR

Open until 2 a.m., Uncle Bo’s has much to choose from. Start with something small like pot stickers or crab cakes. The menu includes soups and salads, steaks, fresh seafood, gourmet pasta, pizza and dessert.

MR. OJISAN

McCully Shopping Center

On Fridays and Saturdays, Mr. Ojisan is open until 12 a.m. This is a small Japanese restaurant that serves classics such as several varieties of ramen, gyoza and much more.

Open daily until 3 a.m., Fook Yuen serves Chinese food and fresh seafood. Their Szechuan eggplant dish is popular among the late-night crowd.

Tossing and turning because your stomach is growling? Or maybe you just finished an epic night out with your friends. Now that it’s after midnight, you want nothing more than a hot cheesy omelet or a mouthwatering bowl of saimin. No matter what type of person you are, we can all admit that we have those nights when the hankering for a midnight snack is unbearable, and late-night munchers need a list to choose from.

NASHVILLE WAIKIKI 2330 Kuhio Ave. 808-926-7911 Open until 4 a.m.

As the rising sun reminds you of the responsibilities of daytime, recuperate with some breakfast (and maybe a Bloody Mary) at Wailana Coffee House or Mac 24/7, two places that never close. Wailana has everything from apple pie to eggs benedict to spaghetti, and Mac 24/7 is famous for its pancake challenge, featured on “Man vs. Food.” Order a tall glass of water to drink before heading back home to let the night come to a satisfying end.

Da Big Kahuna and Nashville Waikiki are all within blocks of each other and conveniently open until 4 a.m. every night. Nashville is the go-to country bar in Honolulu, and Kelly O’Neil’s, nearby on Lewers, is one of the few Irish bars on the island. KNOW YOUR ETIQUETTE Even if you aren’t the most talented songbird in the cage, a night at a karaoke bar can still be a great time. People are often shy to get up, even in front of friends, but karaoke is a musical activity that is actually more fun if you aren’t talented. The point is to let it out and let it go, not to be the next American Idol. If you’re going to get out there, though, there are a few things you should remember. DON’T SHAME THE SINGERS: Just to reiterate, it’s not a competition. The point is to have fun and relax, not to make those of us who are less musical feel bad. Everyone’s just out for a good song and a good time. RESPECT THE STAFF: They have to serve you food, drinks and listen to the same overplayed songs every night. They are there to help you have a good night, so don’t be those customers. DON’T HOG THE SPOTLIGHT: Try to pick songs that everyone knows, and make sure anyone who wants gets a chance at the mic. Whether you are up on a stage or in a private room, you’re all in it together, and nobody needs the center stage to himself or herself. NOT ALL KARAOKE BARS ARE ALIKE: Know what you want before you go. Do you want a bar setting where you can sing in front of strangers, or are you looking for a smaller space where you and your friends can sing together? Do you want to keep it simple with drinks, or go for a big meal with your music? Chances are, there is a place nearby that is perfect for your night out.

WEDNESDAY APRIL 2, 2014

KNOW YOUR PLACES KRAZY KARAOKE was voted as a top karaoke bar in Ka Leo’s Best of UH issue. Its menu isn’t extensive, but every night they have a different special and an up-to-date song list. They also have private rooms of different sizes so you can choose the one that best fits your group. If you want some munchies, give CAFÉ DUCK BUTT a try. It may not sound appetizing, but they have some great food and delicious desserts. They’re open until 2 a.m., so give it a try for some late-night Korean eats and drinks. If you’re looking for more entertainment than food, NOCTURNA LOUNGE may be right for you. They have a range of video games, including “Rock Band” for you to play while you enjoy their specialty cocktails. In the age of social gaming, this is the bar to be at. So remember your manners, and rock the mic. There is a karaoke bar out there for everyone.

DRUNK APPS Too often, alcohol influences the way we think about calling and/ or texting somebody. The later the night gets, the more influential alcohol is. Thankfully, the saviors of dignity have created apps for your smartphone that will keep you from hitting the send button. SAMMI BAUMGARTNER SPECIAL ISSUES COORDINATOR

DESIGNATED DIALER (99 CENTS) This iPhone app allows users to input contacts they drunk dial often. These contacts are placed on a blocked list, and if the user tries to contact somebody on the blocked list, the app redirects the call to a toll-free number that will scold you for trying. If you want to unlock the app, a coordination test must be passed – genius.

DRUNK MODE (FREE) If you’re planning on having a wild night out, this app is perfect. Why? Because it hides your contacts for 12 hours, which means no regretful messages and/ or calls will be sent. The app will also send reminder texts every 30 minutes with messages against drunken habits, like driving.

DATING APPS

With so many potential soulmates on the web, you're just as likely to find your significant other online as anywhere else. Add in social media to the mix, and you've just made finding your sweetheart, new friend and/or booty call that much easier. For those trying to find any one out of the three, here are some apps that'll help you quench your thirst (or try to anyway). JIMMY EDENS LEAD PHOTOGRAPHER

TINDER (FREE) Tinder is a dating app that lets you see pictures of people in your area, allowing you to skip all the arduous work of having to actually leave your house to find someone you're attracted to. If you two are compatible, who knows what'll happen, but there's always the chance you'll get bombed and lose that connection forever. It’s like speed dating, but with pictures.

GRINDR (FREE) If you're gay, bi or curious, Grindr is the app for you. The biggest online community for gay and bi-males, Grindr provides a forum for you to meet and talk to men in your area and all over the world. So whether you're looking for a date or just someone to talk to, download Grindr for free and find a friend near you.
