Foodland poke has a fresh and unique island flavor. Its nearby location is also a great bonus. A favorite is the poke bowl, where your choice of poke is set atop hot rice, with the option of added furikake – all you need to add are the chopsticks. If you’re trying to cut out some of the carbs, opt for one of the numerous types of poke the store offers. Depending on the location, poke choices could include California style with avocado, spicy ahi, oyster sauce and shoyu. For a relatively inexpensive price, you can get a delicious, healthy and convenient snack or meal – perfect to take on the go to the beach or while watching a game.

Living in Hawai‘i, musubi is a must. There’s nothing like a hot piece of spam and rice to keep you happy. Though I’m sure there are plenty of places to grab a great musubi, 7 Eleven does a wonderful job of always having a hot and ready supply for anyone who needs to satisfy a craving. For a classic option that’s close to campus and inexpensive, 7 Eleven is the way to go. Since they are open around the clock, there is no time restriction on your spam needs. It may not be the most gourmet musubi, but it is the most convenient and available at all hours of the night.

There is no shortage of seafood and sushi on O‘ahu, but Genki Sushi has a reputation for yummy rolls and great service. This conveyor-style restaurant has a wide range of sushi, bowls and French fries and wings for the less adventurous. Genki Sushi has locations all around the island, and takeout is available for when you want your sushi on the go. Desserts include mochi, ice cream and cupcakes, to name a few options. The prices aren’t too steep, either. Genki Sushi proves you don’t need to go far to find good rolls and authentic Japanese food.

Walk past the Starbucks in Campus Center, and you will see a line snaking out and around the corner. Despite the usually empty coffee shop next door, students still prefer to wait in line at Starbucks for up to 30 minutes to get their familiar drink. Stop in at any of the Starbucks surrounding campus, like in Mānoa Valley or down Kapahulu, and you will see students spread out through the café studying. With their have-it-your-way menu and endless drink possibilities, Starbucks has established itself in Campus Center, and it looks like it’s here to stay.

At Bubbies, there is no shortage of things to satisfy any sweet tooth. With about 20 varieties of mochi and a vast menu full of other tasty treats, there is something for everyone. It is a short walk from campus, but be prepared for a brief wait because with treats this delicious, everyone wants a taste. If you don’t want something cold, there are warm drinks as well. For the best food on campus, UH students picked Ba-Le. Located in Hemenway Hall, the menu includes beef, chicken or vegetable pho, freshly made sandwiches, a variety of salads, tapioca, pastries and iced thai tea and coffee. There is also a bar, called Mānoa Gardens, inside Ba-Le that opens at noon. Mānoa Gardens is best known for having cheap beer – perfect for a quick midday drink. There is a range of seating options, indoor and outdoor, and Student Media Night occurs once a month.

Located in the Sustainability Courtyard between Kuykendall and Sakamaki halls, Da Spot proves that getting a quick bite to eat from a truck does not, as a rule, have to involve questionable meat glistening with grease. The lunch menu shuffles daily, ranging between different kinds of curries and other vegetarian dishes coupled with brown or saffron rice, but they also serve up other options from their standard menu. The acai bowls, muffins and bagels make for a solid breakfast or snack, and the baklava makes a delicately flaky, crunchy dessert. In addition, their blenders are whirring all day long, making cool, refreshing smoothies. Next time you need a quick bite in between classes, give Da Spot a try.
