The athletics complex was burglarized sometime on the weekend of May 19. Officials discovered on May 22 more than $10,000 had been stolen. Campus Center and the campus office for Ampco Parking System. According to Dawson, the total cash stolen from Campus Center amounts to $45,000. “Somebody has to know where the money is,” Dawson said. CS has sent out precautionary tips, especially for those

units handling cash, in areas of the campus where it is particularly quiet during the summer, on the weekends and during nonbusiness hours. “ There are security systems, and there are perfectly good locks to keep honest people out,” said Dawson.

On the morning of May 22, UH athletics department employees discovered two broken safes and found that more than $10,000 in cash had been stolen from the athletic complex offices. Campus Security and the Honolulu Police Department are still looking for burglary suspects. According to Campus Security Captain Donald Dawson, burglars used some kind of hammer to physically tear apart two safes on the fi rst-floor offices of the athletic complex over the May 19 weekend. “This case is being taken seriously by the detectives and the Honolulu Police Department,” Dawson said. “The biggest problem is that they [burglars] seem to know where there is money.”

A rash of burglaries started last summer when the UH athletic department food vendor Sodexo had their office in Les Murakami stadium burglarized twice, following baseball and softball games. Since then, burglaries and burglary attempts have occurred on lower campus in the Stan Sheriff Center and the ticket office, as well as on upper campus, including
