Earn Tax Benefits Monetary donations have a lot of advantages as well in the form of tax benefits. When you’re contributing in the form of cheque or cash, you are liable to a donation tax exemption or deduction depending on the donation type and your mode of payment. Cash donations amounting up to ₹2,000 can earn you deductions, but if the (cash) amount exceeds the mark, you won’t receive the privileges. This is as per Donation under 80G of the IT Act, 1961. Any other amount exceeding ₹2,000 should be made other than cash to receive exemptions from tax under Sec. 80G. The amount has been reduced from ₹10,000 to ₹2,000 from FY 2017-18 onwards to stop fraud tax filers to submit forged donation receipts. There was a provision to earn tax benefits from donation under sec 35 AC, but since FY 2017-18, it has been discontinued.
