Ottawa’s public school board must take emergency measures to relieve overcrowding in Kanata’s elementary schools, recommends a staff report. Four schools are bursting at the seams: Katimavik Elementary School (199.9 per cent above enrolment capacity), Jack Donohue (126 per cent) Roch Carrier (148.8 per cent) and Stephen Leacock (156.6 per cent). The board will hold a public meeting to discuss its short-term options to handle enrolment pressure in the cafetorium of A.Y. Jackson on Jan. 17, starting at 7 p.m. The Ottawa Carleton District School Board is currently holding an accommodation review of Kanata schools but short term solutions are needed for three of the schools for September 2011, said the report. • Roch Carrier: Leave grade structure and program in place but redirect pupils from growth communities to other schools such as John Young, Bridlewood Community, W.O. Mitchell and Castlefrank elementary schools. • Stephen Leacock: Move senior kindergarten students to Roland Michener. Early French immersion will be offered to senior kindergarten students who move to Roland Michener. OVERCROWDING, see 2
