A large number of people living in Kanata North will be affected by the proposed bus changes for the area. Kanata North Coun. Marianne Wilkinson addressed the issue at her ward council meeting on Monday, March 28 in advance of OC Transpo’s public meeting scheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 30, after the Kourier-Standard’s deadline. Wilkinson said a number of areas in her ward are losing their service due to route cutbacks and removal of bus stops. “A lot of people will be walking more than 800 metres,” she said. “They are making them (bus stops) very long distances away. “There’s going to be a lot of people with worse service than they have now,” she said. The biggest losers would be the people who currently rely on Route 65, which is proposed to be removed entirely. People who live on the side streets off Knudson Drive between Campeau Drive and Westlock Way, and those who live off Leacock, Varley and Penfield drives would have a fairly lengthy walk to catch either the 60 or the 68. “I think it’s too far for people to walk,” said Wilkinson, who added she is trying to work out a deal with OC Transpo to see the 65 be put back into service with a few changes. “That is the major service for Beaverbrook.” BUS CUTS, see 5
