It was déjà vu all over again for Gordon O’Connor, as voters elected him to his fourth term as MP in Carleton Mississippi Mills. O’Connor will return to Parliament as part of a majority government, with the Tories picking up 167 seats in the May 2 election, with all polls reporting. “It means four years of stability,” said O’Connor. “It means the government can plan for the long term. “We have been on continuous election preparation.” O’Connor won his riding by one of the widest margins across the country, taking 43,644 votes and 56.8 per cent of the riding, with all 299 polls reporting – about one per cent less than his victory in the 2008 election. He easily defeated Liberal newcomer Karen McCrimmon, who finished second with 24 per cent – about one per cent higher than the Liberals received in the 2008 election. O’Connor was first elected to the House of Commons in 2004, and was reelected during the 2006 and 2008 elections. He has served in Cabinet as Minister of National Defence, Minister of National Revenue, and Minister of State and Chief Government Whip. Preliminary results showed Erin Peters of the New Democratic Party rising to third place with 14.7 per cent and the Green’s John Hogg finishing with less than 5 per cent. O’CONNOR see 3
