Kanata North Coun. Marianne Wilkinson is floating the idea of creating an O-Train service that would run from Kanata north to Bayview Transitway Station. She said she will put the idea forward for the next review of the Master Transportation Plan, which will start next year. “I want it looked at and studied,” said Wilkinson, adding there is the possibility of starting the train in Carp. “Just put it on the books. “It’s a fairly long-term thing in a ways because it requires funding. The track isn’t in great shape.” For the Kanata O-Train proposal to work, a connection would have to be built to join the new track with the existing rail line. The rail service could run along the line that passes through Kanata Lakes, she said, adding the track would need upgrades. “The city owns that track that goes through Kanata Lakes,” said Wilkinson. The track extends to Arnprior. She said having O-Train service in Kanata could help in the interim during the construction of the light rail transit (LRT) network. Under the light rail plan, the west-end wouldn’t see any trains in the area for decades. “We need to take a good hard look at this,” said Wilkinson. “It would help to relieve the congestion on the buses.
