ABOUT ME!
Graduated in Fashion Design and Merchandising in De la Salle College of Saint Benilde in the Philippines and recently a graduate in Master of Contemporary Fashion Design at International Fashion Academy in Paris. Learning about the human body and its muscular function while in my studies to become an Occupational Therapist, began my fixation on dressing and highlighting the human form. It was from then on that I decided to pursue Fashion Design. Aesthetically, my designs are always a reflection of my childhood. Where-in, I was brought up in a conservative family, and my seeking for a little bit of freedom allowed me to become a rebel (from time to time) and show my personality. Because of this phase, I have always been attracted to the things that were edgy and unconventional. From there, I started my training with a local designer from the Philippines, Gian Romano, who specializes in leathered clothing and had quite a different take on pattern making. With this experience, I worked as a Junior Designer for a local retail brand called Oxygen, under Golden ABC INC. for about 3 years until I decided to take up my master’s degree in Paris, France.

“And in the end, what’s left of us is just the scars on our back and the pain that is continuously seeping, trying to get out”
Save me from the prison that is in m
This page is dedicated to a concept design that was focused on taking our insecurities we have with our body and creating something out of that. Growing up chubby totally played a role with having body image insecurities, and mine were on my hunched back and my flabby arms. My hunched back happened in order to compensate for my quite large tummy and my flabby arms that didn’t seem to have shrunken even when I lost a lot of weight, therefore resulting in self-hate and disliking it being paid attention to. I figured, no matter what we do to our bodies, people will pay attention to pretty much anything. So I decided that if it were to be paid attention to, that it might as well be something positive and enlifting.

Creating elaborate patterns like this sleeve, allows the viewers to refocus their attention on the wearers body part and instead, on the way the sleeve was designed. Cinching the waist also gives highlight to the sleeves.
LABEL IT! Label It is an Exhibition on Trademarks in Fashion, held in Modermuseum in Hasselt, Belguim.
Label It was an opportunity to express our notion between Inspiration vs. Imitation. My design is a representation of what it means to be a creative in one own’s brand and being a creative in a corporate brand. And maybe the only difference between these two is just knowing the difference between good and bad theft. It is said that we have laws that protect our copyright from the moment we have physical evidence of our work, but are they really being protected, especially when these laws vary from country to country? And even more for the new comers who don’t stand a chance against these big corporate brands. It seems to me that the laws have become a game of finding loopholes as to who can get away with copying. And to what extent does the internet and social media play their good role of exposure when they have become the very vehicle that allows people to pirate and duplicate. All these things are reflected in my my garment: the volnurability, the burden of it all and the sense of being protected when there is none.
