Early Childhood and Exceptional Learners in Music Activities-based exploration of developmentally appropriate instruction pre-k and k; Activities and information for teaching students with special needs in self-contained and inclusive settings, including ECSE. Karen Salvador is Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Michigan, Flint. She earned her Ph.D. in Music Education from Michigan State University, and holds an MM in choral conducting from Michigan State University and a BM in voice performance from Western Michigan University. Karen has taught elementary general music (k-4) in Eaton Rapids, MI, early childhood music at the MSU Community Music School and UM-Flint Early Childhood Development Center, and has directed choirs of singers from elementary to retirement ages in a variety of settings.

ABCs of MLT This workshop will provide an overview of the basics tenets of
MLT and share practical strategies for how it might be applied in the classroom to help build students' musicianship and musical independence. Heather Shouldice is Assistant Professor of Music Education at Eastern Michigan University. She holds degrees from Michigan State University and the University of Michigan and has over 10 years experience teaching elementary general and early childhood music. Heather currently serves on the board of the Michigan Music Education Association and is president-elect of the Gordon Institute for Music Learning, for which she also is a certification faculty member.

Teaching General Music in Grades 4-8 Cathy Fox is currently teaching elementary general music in the Grand Ledge Public Schools. She taught music in Ohio, New York and Connecticut before moving to Michigan in 2003. Cathy has Music Education degrees from Oberlin College and Northwestern University. Cathy will present on integrating ukuleles into her instruction of upper-‐ elementary students. John Churchville holds a BFA degree in world music performance from the California Institute of the Arts and is a certified K-12 music teacher in Michigan. He is the music director at Go Like The Wind School in Ann Arbor where he teaches general music, string orchestra, beginning and advanced band, and
jazz band. John has also spent the last 8 years recording albums of original music composed by students ranging from 1st grade to high school. John founded the Indian music group Sumkali and performs all over the U.S., Europe, and India. John will present ideas for project-based composition in general music settings.

Orff-Kodaly Fusion Explore lessons and activities fusing of Orff and Kodály philosophies, including folk songs, pieces from the volumes by Orff and Keetman, children’s literature, and classical repertoire. Donna Devito Gallo is currently pursuing a Ph.D in Music Education from Northwestern University, and teaches Kodály Level III at Silver Lake College. Donna taught K-6 general/choral music for the Simsbury (CT) Public Schools for six years. Donna studied at the Zoltán Kodály Pedagogical Institute in Hungary and holds a BME from Indiana University, Kodály levels I-III and a MME from Silver Lake College, and Orff Level I from George Mason. Donna has presented sessions on performance-based assessment, Kodály, Orff, and movement for the general music classroom at national and regional OAKE, AOS A, and NAfME conferences.
