Chris Rock • The comedian’s long career continues apace as he’s earned thumbs-up reviews for the recent film Top Five, which he directed and starred in, about a comedian trying to revive his career as a serious actor (his “funniest movie in years, if not ever,” one critic raved). Since Rock broke into the comedy big leagues in the ’90s on Saturday Night Live, he has become known for stand-up routines that include irreverent, profanityladen riffs on race, relationships and politics. Despite his edgy humor (or because of it), he’s a mainstream success by anyone’s measure: Rock has hosted the Oscars; been declared “the funniest man in America” by Time; starred in his own TV show, Everybody Hates Chris; and won four Emmys. “It’s a great life,” he’s said. “I wouldn’t trade it with anybody. Except maybe Will Smith.” —Christina Ianzito
