COURSE OBJECTIVES    

To improve the student’s lexical, syntactical and grammatical proficiency to enable them to become operational in M1 and in their first internship. To develop communicative competence and business vocabulary knowledge. To provide students with the necessary skills for effective professional managerial communication. To practise business register awareness through the drafting of various business documents

LEARNING OUTCOMES After having taken this course, participants will be able to/are expected to know or understand and apply (knowledge-based outcomes):  Presentation skills to include the requisite non-verbal communication, rhetorical devices and delivery mechanisms  Business meeting language and techniques  Recruitment process and the requisite recruitment documents  Typical interview questions and techniques More specifically, participants should be able to (skill- and competency-based outcomes)  Pitch their idea of a new product or service to potential investors  Give a professional product presentation using effective verbal and non-verbal communication  Hold and participate in a business meeting  Draft meeting documents: agendas; and minutes  Prepare recruitment documentation such as CVs, SAFs, letters of application  Interview for an internship
