Cultural Learning Center Design Rehabilitate - Reconnect - Relife

“Natural Reconnection, Self Discovery” The 21st century, human living is satisfied with high technology with high technology which brings us convenience and improves our living standards. However, urbanization, internationalism, industralization form a thick “Concrete Jungle”. Metropolians are over consume natural resources and produce many wastes & pollutions which is continuously harming our Earth, our Land. Everyone are one of the components in the city and their lifestyle and behaviour are guided by main stream of society. They recieve brain washed education and system of values when to be born. Their behaviours and minds are duplicated and look like a robot. They eat, work and sleep everyday, loop againand again.................... In their deep heart, they are unhappy and feel unsatisfied. They do not know they to be born and what is their gifts, their values..................... The manifesto is “Natural reconnection, Self discovery”, the design purpose is provided a chance for citizens who is unsatified in current situation and weary of their robot’s life through a healing journey programme through different kinds of programmes, users can reconnect back with nature and learn how to treat with nature from aboriginal spirit. Everyone after visit this place can find out their self actualization, their own gifts, their values, their talents. Furthermore, they learn how to respect each others and create a non-hierarchical harmony society in the future.

Awake Memory - Recognize Identity - Regain Pride

“Awake memory, Recignize identity, Regain pride” Nambour is suffering from social and economic issues which causes high crime rate and drug abuse problems and the residents in Nambour are fully with depression feeling. My future vision for Nambour is wanted to create a sustainable and happiness community by strengthen the tourism industry and create different kind of local brand and products. Nambour has a potential to use its own history to develop a brand and sell the products to different places in Australia and even oversea. Nambour has organized different kinds of mega festivals in every year and it is an opportunity to recover the economy through tourism industry. Moreover, The creative industry is the new identity for Nambour which invites all local artists to provide different art & crafts workshops and design studio. The creative industry can replace the past sugar cane industry and design different produces for sell. The manifesto is “Awaken Memory, Recognize Identity, Regain Pride”, and my aim is to revival Nambour town and find back its own identity and pride which make a harmony, joyful, love & respect community for the future.

Cultural Aspect

Tourism distination & creative industry

Reconnect with Nambour history

Economic Aspect

Social Aspect

HARMONY COMMUNITY, LOVE & RESPECT

Creates local brand, employs local residents

My goal is create a better future for Nambour town by three main aspects, cultural, economic and soical. As my manifesto is Awaken Memory, Recognize Identity and Regain Pride. Firstly, my design is tried to reconnect with nambour history and culture, then creates a new identity for Nambour - Tourism distination and creative industry. All the designers and artists can create their own brand or local brand and sell the goods in Australia or oversea. Lasty, I want to create a harmony and non-hierarchy community with love and respect in the futue.

Depression by social & economic problems

Local artists & farmers set up studios & workshops

Build up a local brand in Nambour

Develop a sustainable community and feel love and joy

PIXAL CONCEPT

Break into different pixals

Rearrange pixals by 6x6 grids

CONNECTIVITY

Three strips (Artists, Performance & Arts)

Create vertical and horizontal connection

Reshuffle pixals into several blocks

REALITY PIXAL & VIRTUAL PIXAL The PIXEL CITY concept is inspired from SuperStudio - Continuous Monument. In my imagination, the nambour is built up by 6 x 6 x 6 meters cubic pixel. Each pixel represents desire of people and the function of space, all the pixels combine together to from the town, the city. Rem Koolhaas believes that every skyscaper is a city because it provides different programme and function for users inside one building. As he said skyscaper is a city within the city. In my project, I try to apply the “a city within the city” concept and rotate the “vertical city” to “horizontal city” and apply “the pixel city” concept from macro level into micro level.

Reality pixal = Programme & Space

Virtual pixal = Voids & natural light

Create physical and spiritual space

Consignment Style Year 3 Individual Project Spring 2012 Tutor: Dr. Carmen Tsui

What is CONSIGNMENT SHOPPING ? Consignment shops is a new trend of shopping typology nowadays. The shop provides a lot of rental boxes for people to sell their own goods. Different kinds of goods in theboxes are housed in one big cabinet, thus producing an interesting shop facade. People can see different goods in one shop but not similar items for individual shops. Consignment style is related to NoHo area which surrounded with tenements. The Noho area is gentrification which is activated all the tenements become retail shops and restaurants. Most of the shop are focusing on window shop design because it can attract people to come to their shops.

Green Stair

Year 2 Individual Project Spring 2011 Tutor: Mr Ivan IP

Commercial Building Design

This site is a corner site which is located at the intersection of Duddell Street & Queen Road Central. The site is a very specific place because it is combined with historical and finanical character. Thus, my design theme is to indicate and link the above specific characteristics to form a relationship.

Respect to History

“Green Stair” - The sky garden design likes a stair step which is similar to the Duddell Street Step. A comparsion between historical staircase and modern “Sustainable staircase”. Hence, the linkage between the building and the Duddell street steps is generated.

Respect to Surroundings The facade mainly faces to the Queen’s Road Central which is leading to Admirality, it can attract the people into the building. Moreover, the orientation can maximize the daylighting and provide more views for office users. Furthermore, the greenery is surrounded the West Wing Building, so the office design is introduced the greenery into the site and building.

無我

SELF-EFFACEMENT

Buddhism started at 6th century india by Siddhartha Gautama. He was a prince and noticed pain and suffering. Therefore, he wanted to learn the answer of problem of human suffering and pain. At last he found enlightenment while sitting under a big tree called the Bodhi Tree. He was the first person to teach Buddhism to the people. Buddha's teachings are about suffering and how to overcome it. Because overcoming suffering allows person to be truly happy. We suffer because of desire, anger and stupidity. We could end our suffering by letting go of desires. It is called “Nirvana”. The three theme came from Three marks of existence. They are Anicca, Dukkha and Anatta which are characteristics of everything in the physical world, including mental activity and psychological experience. Thosetold you the truth and how to “Nirvana”.

LMC LOOP Master Planning & Design

Summer 2012

The Green Horse Education City development project is located in Lok Ma Chau Loop, Hong Kong and surrounded by the dredged Shenzhen River. As the site is facing to the central business district (CBD) Futian of Shenzhen, the project is greatly bene!ted by the economic booming in both Hong Kong and Shenzhen. Therefore there is a huge potential in the further development. The design scheme is consists of “Dual Core” plus “Four Auxiliary Zones”. They are covered by a “Greenery Network” covering the whole site, so that it can bring the natural scenery into the education city. “Dual Core” Two high education zones are located at the center of the site. Each zone has one university, focusing on culture and science separately. There are libraries, cultural centers and laboratories, ful!lling both academic and research usages. “Four Auxiliary Zones” Research, residential, commercial and entertainment zones are located at the two sides of the central educational area. They provide supportive facilities for the education city and also serve residents in Hong Kong and Shenzhen. “Greenery Network” A continuous green belt surrounds the site. Inside, there is a river across the site from East to West, and a central green spine connecting the North and South. Together with the greenery areas in each zone, a Greenery Network is formed to cover the whole site.

Rod Tower

Year 4 Group Project Spring 2013 Tutor: Dr. Charlie Xue Exhibited: For opening ceremony of Academic 3

Tectonic Architecture Installation

The design is inspired by Louis Kahn’s un-built project. The initial concept of the tower is designed with tetrahedron structure. The model then is designed with zigzag from. The connections of the columns are overstated. The columns are plugged in to the joints. The tower can fully express the detail of the structure. However, there are different combinations of rod structures. The most stable form is triangular structure. Therefore, the design is used this structure. The design shows tectonics by simple structure. It emphasizes the structural element by exposing the joint connections. The rods follow a geometric grid in order to distribute the loading force in balance. •Respect to structure •Expose joint details •Make use of environmentally friendly material •Create a twisted form
