Consignment Style Year 3 Individual Project Spring 2012 Tutor: Dr. Carmen Tsui

What is CONSIGNMENT SHOPPING ? Consignment shops is a new trend of shopping typology nowadays. The shop provides a lot of rental boxes for people to sell their own goods. Different kinds of goods in theboxes are housed in one big cabinet, thus producing an interesting shop facade. People can see different goods in one shop but not similar items for individual shops. Consignment style is related to NoHo area which surrounded with tenements. The Noho area is gentrification which is activated all the tenements become retail shops and restaurants. Most of the shop are focusing on window shop design because it can attract people to come to their shops.

Interweave

Year 3 Individual Project Summer 2011 Tutor: Michael Kwok

Buddhism Museum Design

無我 SELF-EFFACEMENT

Buddhism started at 6th century india by Siddhartha Gautama. He was a prince and noticed pain and suffering. Therefore, he wanted to learn the answer of problem of human suffering and pain. At last he found enlightenment while sitting under a big tree called the Bodhi Tree. He was the first person to teach Buddhism to the people. Buddha's teachings are about suffering and how to overcome it. Because overcoming suffering allows person to be truly happy. We suffer because of desire, anger and stupidity. We could end our suffering by letting go of desires. It is called “Nirvana”. The three theme came from Three marks of existence. They are Anicca, Dukkha and Anatta which are characteristics of everything in the physical world, including mental activity and psychological experience. Thosetold you the truth and how to “Nirvana”.

Two paper stripes

Under 3 x 3 Form Founding, I choose imperemanent & subtraction for my museum design concept. It involved two paper stripes interweave to each other and create a interesting pattern.

Concept Model

Use two paper stripes and interweave them into the slope. Try to find the relationship between the two paper and contour line. From the relationship, form finding and circulation can be found.

Rod Tower

Year 4 Group Project Spring 2013 Tutor: Dr. Charlie Xue Exhibited: For opening ceremony of Academic 3

Tectonic Architecture Installation

The design is inspired by Louis Kahn’s un-built project. The initial concept of the tower is designed with tetrahedron structure. The model then is designed with zigzag from. The connections of the columns are overstated. The columns are plugged in to the joints. The tower can fully express the detail of the structure. However, there are different combinations of rod structures. The most stable form is triangular structure. Therefore, the design is used this structure. The design shows tectonics by simple structure. It emphasizes the structural element by exposing the joint connections. The rods follow a geometric grid in order to distribute the loading force in balance. •Respect to structure •Expose joint details •Make use of environmentally friendly material •Create a twisted form

As the site is facing to the central business district (CBD) Futian of Shenzhen, the project is greatly bene!ted by the economic booming in both Hong Kong and Shenzhen. Therefore there is a huge potential in the further development. The design scheme is consists of “Dual Core” plus “Four Auxiliary Zones”. They are covered by a “Greenery Network” covering the whole site, so that it can bring the natural scenery into the education city. “Dual Core” Two high education zones are located at the center of the site. Each zone has one university, focusing on culture and science separately. There are libraries, cultural centers and laboratories, ful!lling both academic and research usages. “Four Auxiliary Zones” Research, residential, commercial and entertainment zones are located at the two sides of the central educational area. They provide supportive facilities for the education city and also serve residents in Hong Kong and Shenzhen. “Greenery Network” A continuous green belt surrounds the site. Inside, there is a river across the site from East to West, and a central green spine connecting the North and South. Together with the greenery areas in each zone, a Greenery Network is formed to cover the whole site.
