MEMBRANA DI LOANO a project by Dora Grzin, Latica Ilic, Karmen Janzekovic The choice of construction fits perfectly into the idea of a marina as a place of transition and a fusion of nature and human action. The marina is perceived as a membrane that separates and connects the two worlds. A place of potential and a place of dynamism and staticity. The construction is shaped like a membrane that shapes the built space, but in the sphere of life it leaves multiple layers of use and interpretation. The membrane of construction can be experienced as a futuristic manifesto of materialism over the past, with the aim of preserving the layers of the past. Like a border that breaks in certain places, it gains its greatest momentum in places when covering buildings. The intensity of the envelope is enhanced in the places it requires, but in places where it is superfluous, it still gains its appearance and respect. The marina is perceived as the “presence of two worlds”, and so it is realized in the construction. 1

Building A: Hotel The hotel standing at the entrance to the marina is a pearl and a guide at night. It has been redesigned to follow the concept of the envelope - the connection between the sea and the land. The concept of the mast in the form of a façade leans against the hotel and continues the strip of connection with the other buildings of the marina. The rooms frame a central space that becomes a zone of socializing and multicultural connection. In the central hall, a place for socializing is formed. The space is designed to provide a diverse type that includes rest, work, and leisure. The way of life has changed drastically in the last 50 years and we have all become acquainted with technology whose development in today’s times is just beginning. The space is designed to provide individuals with an isolated place that provides support for working in peace and full commitment.

The hotel on the ground floor and first floor contains toilets, changing rooms and technical rooms. The entrance to the hotel is accentuated by a glass entrance and is visually connected on the transverse axis with the entrance to the hotel on the opposite side. On the third floor there are 28 rooms whose size varies. The rooms on the fourth floor are more luxurious and larger. They connect the space of the bar which continues to the terrace where the sunbathing area and tables are organized, and on the other side there are spaces for lectures, socializing, partying, which make this space self-sufficient and colorful dynamic.

Building D: Commercial strip This architecture hosts shops and business establishments. An atrium is formed between the moves of the shops and the business establishments, which contributes to the creation of an ambience in the interior. Along the promenade of the porch the atriums also act as squares for gathering passers-by and act as one of the hot spots of the envelope. Atriums bring nature into the built space and the quality of living in shops and offices increases. Offices and shops ensure the flexibility of use in a way that their square footage provides space for less interaction and also a space in which a greater flow of people and use of space is possible. The shops are completely transparent with glass through which the irregular rhythm of the atrium and nature is provided, which together with the envelope that supplies it create a dynamic and metamorphic expression.

Building E: Beach The beach is organized in a way to ensure an outstanding experience for guests staying there. The beach becomes an integral part of the marina and makes contact with it, not only the facilities but also the envelope that visually and physically connects the meeting points and hot spots. Sanitary infrastructure is passable and becomes the part of the pedestrian movement. There is a promenade across the sea that contains programs such as sea sports, amphitheaters, beach bar with infrastructure for bathers. The character of the envelope above the sea changes with the wind and is formed through the curtains
